The creator/writer of Valerian and Laureline was on the radio earlier and I thought this fun fact could interest /co/.
Before that comic there was nobody in France called Valerian or Laureline. Valerian is a typically Eastern Euro name and the name "Laureline" was created by artist Christin. As of 2017 there are 2000+ Valerians and 2900+ Laurelines in France.

Frenchfag here.
let's be honest, most content is shit, don't overrate french comics just because on some of them you could see boobies, also they are actually belgian for a huge part, the only really relevant "french comic" from France itself is Asterix.

Franco-Belgian comics (especially the modern ones) suffers of having a good artstyle but a terrible scenario, especially on the heroic fantasy shit.
god tier content are mostly about comedy or adventure.

the classics are often the best ones.
there is of course some underrated gems around.
and sometimes people believe european comics from another country are french just because it's more easy to publish mostly on France and Belgium than their own country, best exemple about this is Blacksad, spanish comic created by spaniards authors but people believe it's a french thing, it also happens sometimes with Corto Maltese, italian comic but for some reason some people believe it's french.
>>
>>93168709
Also all of Jodo's stuff.
I think people mostlsy mean "franco-belgian" as in the industry and market, like non-Americans working for say DC are still considered to be writing American comics.

That actually helps with inferencing, in the sense that you actually have to guess what the replaced word it.
It isn't good for initial teaching, but it is good for practicing

This is going to be sort of OT but perhaps frenchfriends and frenchaboos can help me out.

Where the fuck can I find music in french? Like, music services usually do have french artists and songs but searching for them is a pain compared to all the anglo and even latin stuff. Can't really utilise youtube either as I'm not really familiar with any bands or artists or scenes and a general search yields only the most generic and superficial stuff imaginable.

At this point I've just resigned myself to listening to dubbed disney songs as they've got clear female vocals and are easy to find (and make this post on-topic).

so do I, but what the said makes sense, they claimed they had delayed the release so that they could do a total global release rather than a staggered global release

which makes sense if your trying to profit from global viewership not just the USA, its a pretty well proven fact that a lot of internet piracy can be linked to individuals in nations where a show/movie isn't available legally yet

Trying to remember the names of two European comics I read as a kid (probably French, but they could be Belgian, or something else, I dunno). The comics are old. As in, think 15 to 25 years old, probably.

One was about a boy that discovers some kind of shapeshifting alien/robot that pretends to be a toy spaceship. I read that when I was really really young, so that's all I remember, aside from the fact that it ended really sad, and it made me cry.

Another one was a fantasy comic about some random gang of adventurers trying to stop some evil. It was a very diverse group, I remember some lanky punk who was the chosen one, who ended up fucking some holy virgin to produce a child that would end up saving the world, with explicit fucking and LITERALLY an image of the resulting creampie. There also was some huge purple hairy monster-guy, almost a parody of '80s American comic antiheroes. He ended up getting bit by zombies storming the castle they hid in, so he cut off his arm, burned the stump, and decided that he might as well take a last stand against the zombies while the rest of the heroes left in an airship.
It might have had an issue where the group rides giant chickens on the cover. I don't remember exactly.

Yeah, I forgot to say it's also the best end for a comic. Though, for Mutafukaz, the fake end was a bit cliché. Perhaps 50%? On one hand, I am biased towards French as a foreign language due to various reasons. On the other hand, I do want to actually pick up the language, and a lot of the french cartoons and movies are fairly disappointing. That's pretty much the way it works with media in any language, so no real surprises there, but I am certainly not going full frog either.

It's okay. Main draw is that the MC is cute and wears practically nothing. The stories themselves are the usual scifi/fantasy-mixture with a relatively drama-free woman main character.

Doesn't matter, it's an acronym/colloquialism. Write the plural BD or BDs in an informal setting and it doesn't matter. In a formal setting you'd go for the full "bandes dessinées" (s added to noun and adjective in this case, plural adjectives can be a bit of a headache).

For a bit more "darker", grittier humor, I propose the following:

-Les psy (short stories about a psychologist and the different patients he meets)
-Les femmes en blanc (short stories about the life of nurses)
-Pierre Tombal (a gravedigger that can speak with the dead and also has to find a way to grant his clients most particular wishes)
-Les Bidochons (stories about a couple, typical french people in their 40-50, with beret, wine and everything)
-Les crannibales (stories about a cannibalistic familly)

Using this thread to ask a question. There was a comic that I think is Franco Belgian I saw about 10 years ago that I've been looking for for years. I don't know what it was about cuz I don't speak French, but the main character was an orange cat wearing a top hat and I think it was from the around 70s. This is a good series. Interested in the 7th volume as well, but from what I'm seeing on bedetheque.com, it's not out.

I'd have to wait for a scanlation once it comes out anyway, but hopefully it'll be out eventually.

The 2CV's suspension prowess as described here >>93185620 isn't just a publicity stunt or a quirk, it's actually a feature, as one of the main target demographic was people living in rural areas, including but not limited to farmers. This was quite a relevant size of the population back when the 2CV was made.
That's why they made a car which was cheap, rugged, very easy to fix and maintain, and which could whistand the punishment of the rural road network from pre-WWII france, end even do limited off-road in plowed or cattle fields.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_2CV#Development

Oh that makes sense, very soft suspension for lots of travel off-road.

Is that the one that has shot of the ball jointed dolls of the little gremlins? I remember seeing that at the library years ago, been looking for it ever since.

He's been doing that ever since Passengers with the Wind. He built a model of the city the first book of the Cycle of Cyan is set in as well.

Yup, what he said. >I love this series too, and will 100% scanlate it when it comes out, Theo has put a few panels up on facebook, but he's also working on Murena at the moment, and I think someone else involved in the series tangentially quit because of a dispute or something, there's been no update on when it's coming out for a while.

Awesome! Thank you for everything you do, by the way.

There was a guy recently-ish that did a story with a fairy that gave a kid whatever power he could think of for a day. Artwork was lovely and I'd love to read more but unfortunately his english was sosich tier. Would you pick him up as a newbie if he ended up going to kaskus?
If yes, I will direct him there if I see him again.

Also, pls tell Data to scanlate the ~dozen Agent 327 tomes that doesn't have a danish translation.

Last post until the next France thread.

>I am around on DC++ once in a while, and just checked here after being like 5 or 6 pages behind on this thread emoticon-Smilie. I am retired from scanning, and semi-retired from scanlating, after I finished my main project, Valhalla 1-15. I am working on a few more Canardo books, but that will most likely be it for me, RL takes too much time emoticon-Smilie
