I stopped watching this ages ago. After the first few seasons and the story ended...they kept it going and now it's this weird as shit action series more focused on lore than entertainment.
Whatever happened to Church since season 5?
>>
Same deal as fp - stopped watching after the whole Church is Alpha thing or whatever that was.

Did the show ever get good again?
>>
>>93161050
>>93161093
As stated above in my rankings, seasons 11-13(The Chorus arc) is RvB's absolute peak.

The stuff after one season of alpha Church (season 6 onwards) are indeed garbage, but the Chorus arc is a return to form.
>>
>>93161142
Good to know, something to do this week.
>>
>>93161212
Make a thread about it after if possible. Reactions to RvB are always interesting as there's so many different opinions about different parts of the series, it's just a mess of contradictions.
>>
>>93161004
I marathoned them all together so honestly I don't know where they begin or end.

Was season 7 the one where they introduced The Meta and the rest of the project freelancer biz? Cause that was a great one.
>>
>>93161050
>Whatever happened to Church since season 5?

Died in season 6.
>>
>>93161335

6-10 are the seasons that focused on freelancer.
>>
>kill a dozen people by locking up their armor in various states of pose and having them slowly starve to death, restricting all movement but keeping them fully conscious

That's fucked up
>>
Seasons 7 and 11 are my current favorites

Mostly because because they're flat out comedy seasons like the original idea instead of full on action oriented.

9 and 10 were awful. I REALLY don't care about the Freelancers.
>>
>>93161004
I don't think I watched all of Blood Gulch Chronicles but I do remember watching a bunch of episodes of it. I think I watched Reconstruction. I definitely watched all of Revelation. I also remember watching a few episodes of the first season of the Project Freelancer saga when it was being released but I guess I lost interest and fell off.

Out of all the RvB that I watched, I preferred Blood Gulch Chronicles the most. I probably liked Revelation the least. It felt too serious and honestly a bit depressing, particularly with what was done with Church and Tex.

True. I never thought of that. In that case, I'd pick CT, or pic related.

>>
>>93166751
Well I guess AI's are a more plausible explanation than being able to be ghosts. Though I don't think Church and Tex being AI's is the only problem for me. It's also that things got so super serious and depressing for Church and Tex. And as a person who really liked Church and Tex's characters in Blood Gulch Chronicles, it hurts.

I do admit that I haven't watched RvB since Revelations. I may have watched the first few episodes of Project Freelancer but I don't really remember anything so that doesn't count. Maybe if I tried to get caught up my opinion on this stuff would change.

So remember that animated short meant as a preview for a planned Red vs Blue animated series from years ago?

Well, I found out today that Rooster Teeth made an extended version of it and released it on youtube last year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE8JcqaXSIg

I guess that it's cool that they added to it after all these years. Though it's also kinda weird. Because, if I'm correct, the added stuff utilizes canon that was created after the original short.

Having an impact on the original source.

RvB really went a long ways towards establishing machinima as a viable story-telling medium, and some of the features that Bungie added to later sequels were a response to that (it wasn't the only thing they had in mind, obviously, but making it easier for players to do that kind of stuff was definitely a consideration).

The only other example I can think of is something like Garry's Mod, which did a lot to influence Valve's release of the Source Filmmaker tool.

If taken individually, this season wasn't bad, but coming right on the heels of one of the greatest RvB seasons meant that there were unrealistic expectations set for it. Viewers were expecting to see more plot heavy and dramatic stuff, but got jerked back to the same old Blood Gulch antics, back to square one, which was way too jarring for anyone watching the series in sequence.

Also, Washington was way out of character for this one. Suddenly going psycho, killing Donut and pairing up with the Meta of all people? 2edgyforme

>11
Similar problems as 7, but with the added fact that since we've already had 10 seasons of full on Red and Blue antics, the formulas getting really stale by now and there's really no way to carry the season anymore except through plot or character progression, and this season had almost none of that. Not to mention Church and Carolina, two of the best characters, being absent for the entire thing.

>>
>>93172632

>9
Remember how hyped we were that the series was gonna be full CGI action Freelancer action? Turns out that it's a lot more boring that it sounds. CGI fights were good but that was the only high point. Everything else was retreaded to there and back in the most cliched manner possible. South's an asshole, York's a bro, we knew that already, it's terribly boring and predictable.

On the flipside the Blood gulch storyline was refreshing alongside all the edgy nonsense. The Tex-Church relationship, an ongoing arc for 8 seasons, finally came to a close rather neatly.

>8
This season suffered from an amalgation of problems that afflicted the other bottom three. It tried upping the serious action tone in season 6, but forgot to include actual plot progression. Everything was filler fight and filler comedy which really turned out meh.

But then again, who could forgot the moment when Sarge's warthog crashed through the wall and the production values hit the fan? That was awesome, to be sure.

Ah so I guess I won't be seeing Tex after I watch that season when catching up on RvB. That's a bummer.

To be honest I was never that fond of Church and Tex being retconned to be AI's. It felt unnecessary and caused the relationship between the two as well as Tex herself to become too serious and grim for me.

A lot of people despise this season calling it fanfiction tier, but I actually sorta liked it better than I thought. Sure, sometimes there was utter garbage like the lego shit and the episode entirely in greyscale that i forgot the name of, but on the other hand you have gems like the triplet storyline. At the very least, the anthological and episodic nature kept it refreshing and unpredictable - which is more than what could be said for the seasons below.

>1-5
Here we go. The original saga that captured our hearts. The production values was literally a pre built game engine with a fucking crosshair in the center, but we kept with it due to the factors that have long buoyed the series past fourteen seasons - it's sharp, witty dialogue, colorful cast of characters and incredible voice acting. Whatever direction RvB took in the future, there is no denying this is the style that it keeps coming back to - the blood gulch chronicles forever remain the heart of the entire series.

Him and Ashley happened WAY after they divorced. Although until Ashley, Bernie never really talked about or even mentioned the fact that he got divorced. To the point where when he did start dating again, people started tweeting at his wife that he was cheating on her despite them having been divorced for like 2 years at that point.
>>

In season 14 some of the shorts were back stories to how the Blood Gulch simulation was set up.

She got into a shit-fest with Barbara shortly after Barbara was hired, and she left RT but still did voice work for them.

But just recently she started even more shit on twitter basically saying Ashley wouldn't have been hired if she wasn't dating Bernie.

IIRC, apparently she said that most of the women in Rooster Teeth got hired because of stuff like and there's a culture of it.

Which to be fair, Meg, Lindsay, and Elyse (not sure she really counts though) also sort of fit this pattern, but screaming about it on twitter was super dumb.
>>
>>93176669
I think that's just people taking the whole culture of it too seriously. I watch AH and RvB like I always have for years and that's about it. It only changed if you decide to explore all the new shit.

Granted there was a slump for like a year after Ray left, but they've recovered pretty well from that.

Meg maybe, but Lindsay got hired cause she knew Miles from College and was in the same group of friends along with Kyle and some others.

Well that sucks. Sucks for the people who liked Tex and Kathleen's voicework for her and sucks that she felt the need to act like such a bitch and burn bridges with Rooster Teeth as a result. I guess this means we'll never see Tex ever again in RvB. Well at least she was given closure in such a way that she doesn't need to be brought back any time soon (and bringing her back may be too much effort writing-wise too). Still wouldn't have minded seeing her again though.

Also maybe people are right. Maybe we should get rid of Twitter.

>>
>>93177044
Episode 16

She gave two lines.
>>
>>93175961
The follow up to the freelancer arc, this season was actually an improvement from the past, with plot threads finally coming together and character beats holding more weight as the series hurtled towards a conclusion. Many said this could be the finale of the series, and it's true, the entire freelancer storyline managed to reach a satisfying end. Although much of this season still was pretty meh(same general problems as its
predecessor), props go to the final episode, which was genuinely chilling to a tier never experienced before, and recent events beyond the screen(Burnie's divorce) probably augmented that. This last season of his is an excellent swan song.

>13
...And Miles Luna aint so bad either. The Chorus arc holds close the themes RvB has explored since day one, while at the same time providing enough action and tragedy to satisfy the other side of the tragedy. This concluding season would have been ranked higher, if not for small nitpicks such as wasted villains and predictable cliches, but all in all one of RvB's most solid entries.
>>
>>93177353
The first para is season 10.
>>
>>93177353
>>93177361
It always felt like the quality control of season 10 really plummeted towards the end. You can see it in the poser animation, which is just plain unfinished in a lot of spots.

>>
>>93177353

This is it. You all know this one. You all knew this would near the top of any RvB list. The season that changed the series forever and ensured that it would go on for many more seasons to come. The perfect mix of comedy, action, character development and mystery that wowed us all when it came out. It was the very first time RvB showed us it could be something more, introducing the Freelancers and all the lore that we know well today.

Also, Washington is RvB's best character period.
>>
>>93161004
does anyone else feel this series died the moment they tried to take themselves seriously and have a plot?

the moment I saw the first Monty Oum fight scene, I knew it was time to check out
>>
>>93178102
I really liked the Alpha twist, though you could see it coming. Mostly because of Church's reaction to it where he considers it bullshit and then sacrifices himself at the end of the season anyway because he's a noble asshole like that.
>>
>>93178793
Church should never have been brought back. His entertainment value skyrocketed when he became 'Epsilon' and, since he was given way too much focus, the show severely diminished from it
>>
>>93178770
When the Arbiter became a dropped plot point, I thought it was worth dropping until the Washington shorts. Then after Church was revealed to be the fractured Alpha, I thought it was time to drop it because of the EMP. Then when the Freelancer bullshit started up and it involved the Meta, I stuck with it. Then when the CGI fight scene happened, I wanted to quit, but Washington once again took control of the show. Then the CGI fights suddenly became interesting when Texas was dominating all of the games and ended up fucking everyone up. Then the Dakotas (or Carolinas?) fighting each other, the reveal that Flowers was Florida, and finally the ending of the Freelancer Arc made me feel like the series should have come to a close.

I couldn't get into it after that.
>>
>>93178793
I thought the whole freelancer thing in seasons 9-13 was a slog but season 15 is going so well so far and I'm really enjoying it.

When will Grif and Simmons finally get together? They totally banged.

The alpha, the omega, the absolute pinnacle of perfection of RvB. It's basically like season 6 and also like 13 but not as messy, once again managing a perfect balance of all of RvB's best aspects. Although there were many characters each and every one of them was fresh and exciting, in particular Locus, and especially Felix who came into his own when he revealed him to be an asshole and one of RvB's greatest and most enjoyable villain so far. But old characters had their share as well, with the Reds and Blues getting put through a new and interesting situation, especially Tucker, who's mini arc really elevated him to be god-tier character status along with Church and Wash. Combine that with a tightly, well structured season and there's really nothing you can fault with this season. Here's to hoping season 15 can pack the same kind of punch.

So if she did come back that would be cool. However at the same time I understand that bringing back a character just because some people want her back isn't always the the best idea. Appealing to some fans and nostalgia for the older days can lead to bad things. Just look at what Marvel is doing with Venom right now to see what I mean.

Wash and Carolina are part of the main cast right now, aren't they? I would imagine it would be hard to get completely away from Project Freelancer when you literally have Freelancers as part of the cast.

>Although the pilot obtained very positive reception, Red vs. Blue: Animated didn't air on television and was seemingly canceled. Burnie Burns said that they had no current plans to continue the pilot, due to a lot of mitigating factors. The new series Burnie has mentioned in his journals on their website are not to be of the hand drawn cartoon variety, but yet more machinima.

>Geoff Ramsey stated that they have no current plans to continue Animated anytime soon, but instead incorporate ideas from it into the Poser animations that they now use. At PAX East 2010, it was strongly implied by the staff that production on Red vs. Blue: Animated has come to a halt, for reasons of time constraints and money issues. Geoff Ramsey commented, "We're just too lazy to work on it—we like our own schedule; we just can't work with someone else's timeframe." According to the Rooster Teeth Panel at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, the project is dead and a lot of the ideas and aspects within Red vs. Blue: Animated have been assimilated into the original machinima-based Red vs. Blue series through the use of Poser. The preview was later included on the Reconstruction DVD.
