She stood out, for one. She's a robot so she's more unique than most other cartoons at the time. She was designed and acted like a normal girl (while also being unique) making her more relatable or close to humanity, so she wasn't so super alien to boys that she still came across as human. Her voice and acting and behavior were charticerstically entertaining and cute. Blue and White are cool and inviting colors. Ponytails are cute. As a cartoon boy childrens were exposed to that shit daily, so they got more of everything mentioned above, increasing their love of it.

Seriously though, if you mix a cool super hero, robots, and a cute girl all into one, whose character is charming but not perfect as well as having the perfect mix of tomboy characteristics while still trying to be feminine with a great art style, funny dialogue and likable side characters (some good villains too). You have literally engineered what can only be considered to be... the best girl.
