It depends on the character.
Punisher it works because his character is a hyper obsessive vet who uses guns to shoot people. He's only a superhero because he's ocassionally shooting at supervillains but at the end of the day doing him up like a semi-realistic guy who just bought out a surplus store works with his character. Just be sure to put skulls on it.

I know the high collar is classic, but I like how simple this is. It's equal parts mage, vigilante, and repairman/utilitarian, all of which Strange kinda is. Looks great with medieval weapons too.
