Hey /co/mrades, do you purchase comic books or cartoon related merchandise? any new pick ups?lets see your shelves, observe, criticize, give recommendations etc....

haven't had one of these in a while, get anything good lately?
>>
>>93094272

Only picked up my floppies. Feel like trade waiting some more DC Rebirth titles, how are the following? New Superman, Green Arrow and King's Batman. Was also curious on Shade The Changing Girl and Wild Storm. Those are the main ones I'm interested in trade waiting.

And as someone who is enjoying Abnett's Aqua Man is his Titan's book worth picking up?

Recently picked up:
The Walking Dead #168 x 3(+ Pride variant)
Cannibal #5 and #6
Aqua Man #23 and #24
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #20 and #21
>>
Grabbed Green Lantern Agent Orange for the hell of it
>>
>>93094345
New Super-Man is genuinely the best book DC has, Green Arrow doesn't have that good of a story but fantastic art, Batman is just dumb almost indefensible
Titans is bland as f, not worth Booth's crap pencils

picked up the newest Shade the Changing Girl, Reborn and Nova
>>
>>93094272
How's Habibi? I enjoyed Blankets and I'm thinking about picking it up.
>>
>>93094438

Yeah, that book is just a in-depth character and epidoes guide for the old animated series.
There are collections of the mini-comics and newspaper strips.

Gerard Way's Doom Patrol

Fell out buying comics for a while. Wanted to avoid buying a sword. B&N had these for 10 bucks each. Also, the Rebirth border borderline triggers me because it doedn't look good with the other comics on my shelf. Now I have to buy the following trades for the sense of unity. Thanks DC.

they did and i believe theyre still relatively available or still in print but they only collected the first...3 tpb? (cuz fuck collectors, right?)

Surely there's a better solution to this? Clearly there's not a big market for reprints of 80s and 90s longform runs this niche, so why don't they just do small print runs instead?

Some other anon in another thread mentioned he got really good conditions on trades and reprints in his original contracts with DC, so much so that it wouldn't be profitable at all for them and he is unwilling to renegotiate.

that's why I picked up the Kirby/Lee omnis plus Annihilation Conquest. WE WUZ KANGZ omnis should be on their way, now you get why I want Annihilation back, too.

If you are European, get them from cheap-comics.com (watch the shipping fees though, they can be quite hefty if you live in the wrong country, so if you do, order in bulk), they are at around €65 a piece if the price hasn't changed.

what pisses me off most is that they haven't even reprinted Annihilation yet at all. neither as Epic collection, nor as Essential, just nothing. And especially after the GOTG movies were such a huge success it should be clear that there is a demand. maybe they solely base it on New GOTG and Nova (Bendis and Loeb stuff) instead of the "old" ones (kinda funny to say "old" to something from 2008), but the fact that James Gunn explicitely thanked Abnett and Lanning in the GOTG 2 credits should already have given them a hint and I hope they're scrambling to reprint it instead of trying to push the new shit.

This is also my problem with some of DC's omnibuses. The pages of my JSA omni are already bending a bit under its own weight. If they'd keep the page count a little smaller, it'd be a lot better.

or if they used thinner paper. not to shill anything by Marvel but the thinner paper really did them good without any suffering in printing quality. the "you can see the printing of the other side through the page" complaints are a myth or an early try.

Totally agree. The older Marvel omnis are nice, but unnecessarily heavy. I sold my Simonson Thor, because it was pretty much unreadable- I mean aside from the 500 pages of shitty Sal Buscema art.

The majority of my shelves and boxes were lost in the house fire a few weeks back, however a few things managed to survive. Who would have thought that a cardboard box full of Plastic and Paper would survive a house fire, sadly 3 of the 4 animals didn't make it, but my youngest dog managed to get out with minor burns, she's okay, she just misses her friends is all, and so do i.

Thanks, we're all taking it one step at a time, moving towards rebuilding, my biggest hang up right now is that I have yet be able to find either of the cats' bodies in the rubble, the FD confirmed that they were able to find one when they were putting the fire out, but they couldn't identify it.

I'm not sure how it's split up actually. I think it's the original story. There is a second one that I think is more of a short story collection. And a third one coming out that is two issues. I have the Neal Adams Batman Omni, I was disappointed that it wasn't the original art, but its still an enjoyable read.

Adams is a weird guy though, how many other artists casually sell artwork on their sites for $35,000

The shop is called 'Readers of the Lost Art' and is located inside Clover Cinemas. And yeah, the owner is based as fuck, I used to work in that cinema when I was in high school, but we got shut down by our chain Cinema West. Then like five years later this guy shows up from New York, buys the building out and is now running the place independently.
>>
>>93118116
Sounds like a great place to hang out
>>
>>93118196
The lobby was basically cut in half when they remodeled the place to make room for the comics, but back when I was working there that lobby was THE place ro hang out with me and my friends, everyone else hung out at the million dollar train station that's never seen a train.
>>

>>
>>93118318

>>93118415
Aye, this is also a double edge sword though, it was here that the green text story of the lcs clerk pushing New 52 Suicide Squad over Ostrander's because New 52 has Harley in it occurred. But you are very very correct.
>>
>>93118592
I remember that story ha! .....Damn I'm on this board to much.
>>
>>93118697
When the kid said "Harley is a founding member of the Suicide Squad" I damn near lost my shit, and this is while I'm buying Ostrander, I would have forgiven him had he said something like the art isn't as good or its not as modern as New 52, but his whole selling point was Harley Quinn. I don't give a damn about Harley, give me some Nightshade, or Dutchess.

I haven't read Sheriff yet, because i already read a ton of crime/real world based stuff, but Vision and Omega Men are fantastic.

imo King should focus on telling 12 issue stories in Batman, but DC probably without question wants him doing 5/6 issue arcs because of tpb sales... He just seems like the kind of writer that does well with having his stories plotted out to a certain amount of issues and the typical arc doesn't really give him enough breathing room.

>Mister Miracle looks bretty gud.

Indeed it does.. and I think he'd do better on Batman if he was able to do the longer arcs that Snyder was able to (I know i think i sound crazy too), like the Owls storyline and Zero Year.

He's a guy of big ideas and while some of the Batman run is actually good and fun he's getting stuck writing alot of short plot arcs or 1 shots, that Swampy issue was fuckin great though.

They're OOP, and hard as hell to find, unless you give zero fucks about mismatched books... what i would do is sell that one you have at a good price and put it towards picking up the 4 vol ThiccTPBs ... theyre robust and the paper is nice, and you could get all 4 for like 100bucks

as long as they aren't crooked, self-made shelves can be very pretty. it's more important that you use the right tools for it and don't fuck up with the sawing and the angles.

I was going to order all 4 Kabuki Library edition's from amazon but read one review that said it was skewed art to fit the new format. Is it only Circle of Blood that is skewed? Cause that is a different format than all the stuff that came after. If it's just that one that is skewed I'd still buy it cause I own Circle of Blood anyway but I understand why people wouldn't want that, perfect circles are a very important part of that book. But that kind of stuff doesn't matter much in the later books like Dreams and Metamorphosis that is much more abstract.

If I should avoid that printing what is the best ones to buy?

>War of Kings + Realm of Kings HCs + X-Men: Rise and Fall of the Shiar Empire

>Green Lantern Corps: Recharge (already in the first GL omni)
>spare copy of Legion: Secret Origin (not pictured)
>spare copy of Kill Six Billion Demons (slightly damaged, not pictured)
>Legion of Super-Heroes: The Beginning of Tomorrow (it's completely in Legionnaires Book One

Got incoming:
>WE WUZ KANGZ Omnis (Prelude, War and Realm) from Books etc soonâ„¢
>Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes Vol 1 HC probably arriving mid July
>Adam Strange: The Silver Age Omnibus probably arriving in early August
>Legion of Super Heroes: The Silver Age Omnibus probably arriving mid-August
>Conan Omnibus Volume 3: Ancient Gods and Sorcerers probably arriving late August

And I just noticed I put the Legionnaires books before the Vol 2 trades, will fix that off-screen.
And yes, that shelf is bolted to the wall so there is no risk of it falling forward with Omnis stacked in the top shelf. Also it's actually a shelf for stacking tools and shit so it's sturdy as fuck.

The omni binding is extremely cheap (they're just big trades, mind you, not HCs), pretty much like those Marvel Ultimate Collections/Complete Collections. I'm going to collect them all but if you can get your hands on the HCs cheaply then take them instead, dunno about the quality of the trades.
The omnis collect 3 trades. From the whole original Dark Horse series with all its derivatives and follow-up-series (Conan, Conan the Cimmerian/Avenger/Slayer/King Conan/Road of Kings) there's probably going to be 30+ trades, maybe even 40 so that's at least 10-12 omnis.
The paper is fine by the way, it's just the binding that's a concern to me, but €22 for the equivalent of 3 trades is just unbeatable.

he means there are so many different versions of Conan it is possible that some people prefer a single one over all the others and get all

over it.
There's the original Robert E. Howard pulp-stories, further stories (mostly novels) by other writers (varying degrees of quality, but mostly not so good, the Robert Jordan books are readable though), the old Bronze Age comics which were kicked off by Roy Thomas, the Savage Sword of Conan comics from the same time (black and white and relatively more brutal), the late 80s to mid 90s comics, the movie version with Schwarzenegger, the cartoon version, the mid-90s series with Ralf Möller as Conan version, the 2011 movie version with Jason Momoa and the modern iteration of the comic version, which was started by Kurt Busiek.

there are 5 locke and key trades out already? i looked it up on comicbookroundup and it said there were only 2 issues out. fuckers.

how is it though?
>>

Im actually missing the 6th trade which completes the original series. It's written by Stephen Kings son and you'll see a heavy influence in the setting and characters, art is phenomenal. Personally I'm a huge fan of this series and always recommend it to the unwashed book readers who haven't given comics a true chance.

I have a friend who collects comics who does that, last time I went to his his whole collection was stacked flat in fucking BANANA BOXES. CARDBOARD BANANA BOXES. And it's not like he's poor. He doesn't bag or board any of his stuff, he had one (fairly recent floppy) comic in particular that I've seen go for about 130 quid online, spine all wrinkled, actual chunks gouged into the cover, two fully bent corners...I told him and he looked a bit...cowed. He literally flicks through comics/GN's like they were your "9th grade math textbook", bending the covers with no regard to the binding whatsoever.
Needless to say I don't lend him my shit.

this. i dont lend any comics out to friends(not that i have very many friends who actually read comics) but if they want to read a floppy it's gotta be at my place.

trades i can lend out. they hold up better and people generally know how to handle them.

how much did you guys pay for your boxes? i recently got into buying comics and i need to put my floppies somewhere. id rather not spend 30 dollars on cardboard.
>>
>>93151599

Uh, a shortbox is like .....3.99 here in Canada at my LCS? They don't cost alot its just a specifically sized corregated cardboard box with a lid.
>>
>>93151599
I can't remember exactly, but they cost either $5 or $10 at my LCS. I've looked online and they are insanely priced. See if you can buy them locally.

Short boxes usually go for around $4 or $5 at every comic shop I've been to as long as it's a regular white one. You pay more for the black plastic or the ones that have stuff printed on them.

Sorry man didn't see your post sorry for the late reply. If you want to start with The Ring cycle, then start there. I personally enjoy the playfulness of The Magic Flute more but...up to you, dude. I'm including a scan from the Comics Journal Music Special that he drew, hope you like it. Fuck files too big got to rescan the fucker now. Wank.
>>93151044
Yeah I don't mind lending trades (to anyone else!). My comic reading-mates are collectors themselves so they treat the stuff respectfully.

My LCS sells longboxes for 6 bucks

I really hope they reprint Deadpool by Joe Kelly and the Cable & Deadpool omnis when Deadpool 2 is released, pissed I missed out on the omnis first time around.

Btw that Machineman collection hasn't been out for long, what's it like? I used to really like the character as a kid (in the mid-eighties), can't for the life of me remember if it was the Kirby/Ditko stuff I read, though. I think Barry Windsor-Smith drew a Machine Man mini or one-shot as well? Actually come to think of it it might have been the Kirby stuff, I'd know if it was Ditko (I hated his cape comics as a kid but for some reason really responded to his wonky "Twilight Zone-esque" short comics. Some of those legitimately terrified me when I was a young 'un).
