originally they were supposed to forgive but the network thought they needed to throw in a joke or something so the beating was added to satirize it

Going back over the series, I noticed that a lot of the episode titles were Beatles references. Get Back Jojo, Helter Shelter, etc. Tons of Beatles jokes as well. McCracken really liked the Beatles.

Also they got Ringo for the 2014 short.

Let's be honest, the plot of the episode was pretty good, but most of the singing killed it. Hartnell and Daily are the only two who hit their notes, everyone else fell pretty flat.
