I would say it has to do with a lack of competition, and bringing in the artists from ATLA and Korra but with new writers. It's still character-driven, but has less of a focus on drama. The characters are more reserved, so their feelings are mostly left to the viewers' interpretations. This leads to a lot of fandom drama and shipping wars, but if you can ignore the fandom, it's still a great show.

It has some strong visuals for being a CG animated series and the lore has potential, but it's disappointingly mediocre in terms of story and characters. There's a nice twist or turn here or there, but it's pretty basic.

Still, there's few action animated cartoons out, especially since Netflix only has Voltron, Trollhunters, and Kulipari, so I'm not picky.
