What is Gaiman's stance on this? He seems like a chill guy so I don't think he would have flipped his lid or anything, but goddamn it's so blatant and undeniable.

Apart from his looks and having "tutors" in magic, I don't see many similarities.

Harry Potter isn't that groundbreaking anyway, with or without Books of Magic. A school for wizards is not that new.

Both stories just use the same archetype that has been popular with children and manchildren for ages.

And I think I rather disappointed him by explaining that, no, I certainly *didn't* believe that Rowling had ripped off Books of Magic, that I doubted she'd read it and that it wouldn't matter if she had: I wasn't the first writer to create a young magician with potential, nor was Rowling the first to send one to school. It's not the ideas, it's what you do with them that matters.

But to be honest, Harry Potter is based on D&D like rules magic and Tim Hunter is Lord Dunsany style fantasy
