DC has been around longer than Marvel. When Marvel came out in the 60s, the characters were written as to be more "human" and "relatable" to readers. DC in the 80s followed suit with Dark Knight Returns, for example. Everyone complaining about DC taking a lighter tone in their movies now doesn't realize that DC is just going back to basics. Marvel's always been the one with the dark, gritty, realistic tone in their comics.

Marvel was human and relatable but it wasn't gritty
99% of Marvel is just ripped off from DC

this whole thread is full of casuals talking out their ass and should be deleted.
That being said, Marvel does rip off DC more than the other way around.

I feel like your trolling, but it's true that DC has been trying to imitate the traits that made Marvel popular without fully understanding why it doesn't necessarily work.
Chris Sims wrote a brilliant article about it the subject years ago, if anyone feels like reading it:

I know, I know. But it's actually gets down to the underlying cause behind DC's awkward revamps pretty well.

When I was a kid Marvel was the dark realistic superhero comic universe and DC was the lighthearted superhero comic universe.
Dunno what happened honestly.

And vice versa.
Perfect example:
Thanos was just a rip-off of Darkseid.
And Mongul was just a rip-off of Thanos.
And that's just the tip of the ice berg.
Deadpool was a rip-off Deathstroke.
Aquaman was a rip-off Namor the Submariner.
Red Tornado was a rip-off Vision.
Squadron Supreme was a rip-off the Justice League.
Retaliators was a rip-off the Avengers.
And it goes on like this.
