>Following a record-breaking Thursday debut, an impressive early week outing and an optimistic weekend prediction, the good news continues to roll in for Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. According to a report from Forbes, DC’s latest film has sailed past the $300 million mark at the global box office after just a week of ticket sales.

>Heading into the weekend, Wonder Woman is sitting comfortably as the 14th highest worldwide grossing film of 2017 and number nine in North American receipts, coming in just ahead of M. Night Shyamalan’s Split on both fronts. According to the analysis by Forbes, if Wonder Woman meets its weekend expectations it will overtake the number five spot and be in spitting distance of Logan — which currently holds the number three spot.

>Given that the only real competition for the top weekend box office spot is Universal’s The Mummy, it’s likely that the projections will hold. And while there is a fair amount of box office competition coming down the pike, not the least of which being Spider-Man: Homecoming and War of the Planet of the Apes, its entirely plausible that Wonder Woman will reach year’s end as the third biggest domestic grosser, and possibly worldwide.

I'm glad it's doing so well. It's nice to have proof of what a dead weight Snyder was to the DCEU.

still a shit MCU copy though. A female Superhero movie is just novelty, if Black Widow had a movie first, people wouldn't even bother with this.
>>

all of those other DCEU movies were ensemble casts. Is it really fair to judge solo act like Wonder Woman to movies titled Batman V Superman or Suicide Squad?

can't be, it was actually good and didn't quip every 30 seconds.

it's hilarious how much this is flopping and this weekend's when it gets it's DC drop of 80% and gets crushed by The Mummy

That is beyond reaching

To look at that list and think "yeah it could top out in 3rd place" is beyond fucking stupid.
Car 3, Star Wars, Homecoming will all be fighting for top spot with WW likely gonna be 6th or lower.

it's not about people wanting to see the mummy it's about people not wanting to see a DC movie to the point where it has a massive drop that makes the mummy look like a massive success

It's a more apt comparison, but MoS got lucky with what was able to get because of post-Nolan hype and nobody knew what they were in for. We'll see in time as June passes.

>>
>>93078539
Pirates of the Caribbean has been on a slippery slope for years and each film has made less than the previous ones and Johnny Deep's recent escapades have made him box office poison. It was always a series Disney pushed as a vehicle for international profits anyways.

Superhero trash is incapable of being good.
They are focus tested, factory made movies where the only thing that changes is the main character.
You could change the character of any of these terrible, modern superhero movies and the general structure would be the exact same.

Good for DC that they learned to bribe reviewers like Marvel.
>>
>>93078716
Nah, he's right, this movie is such a success due to all the circumstances aligning for it, leading to a 2-2,5/5 movie be lauded as a second dark knight.
>>
>>93078123
No body gives a wet shit about the mummy except butt hurt mouseketeers who feel threatened by a movie starring a skinny jewess for whatever reason I'm not sure.
>>
>>93078807
Considering TDK was a 2-2,5/5 too, I can see why they say WW is as good as it.
5/10 is the biggest, objective score capeshit can get to because nobody works in them out of passion, it's all because of money, and it shows.
Different directors for every movie, and none incorporates their own style, because they barely have any control over those movies.
>>
is this a b8 thread or are you all actually retarded ?
>>
>>93078745
You can not like The Mummy all you want (I think it looks like shit) but it's also a major Hollywood blockbuster by a major studio. It's objectively competition.

The only new movies that came out on BvS's second weekend were God's Not Dead 2 and Meet the Blacks

>>
>>93078070
The reason female super hero movies have failed in the past is due to Hollywood's stupidity and ineptitude. Case in point Catwoman removing the anti-hero aspect of the character and making the story about cosmetics, because Hollywood execs believe that's "women's stuff".
>>
>>93078873

Captain America 3 and Batman vs Superman were suppose to do just that. Disney put Cap on the same launch week as BvS. That was how much faith they had in their product. Then, almost like they just knew what they had on their hands, WB pushed BvS up to the weakest point in the year for ticket sales.
Dr.Strange did this as well dropping it's date months after Fantastic Beast was announced.
Thor went up against Pirates and did well
First Avenger faced off with Transformers 3

And WB has done this too having Dark Knight Rises face off with Amazing Spider man 2

Only a studio holding onto a pile of shit would fear competition.
>>
>>93078921
As movies, they are.
The Dark Knight borderline forgets that it's supposed to be a Batman movie in pose of telling a police drama, only Batman Begins genuinely felt like a Batman movie.
TDK sporadically has Batman, while TDKR completely forgets it's supposed to be Batman movie up until the last 15 minutes.

In capeshit, of course they are high up, but the fact that these movies need to be counted in their own ratings just shows how low the standard is.
>>

What drugs were the people who wrote this doing? Because I want some.

We already know it won't catch Beauty and the Beast or GotG2, Pirates is killing it overseas like the last one, there's a Spider-Man film, a frickin' Star Wars movie, not to mention Justice League.

It' will probably finish in the lower end of the top 10, which is pretty nice for Patty. But come on.
>>
>>93078966
They don't fear having a pile of shit, all capeshits are piles of shit, there's just studios who regret not marketing the movie better.
Even BvS, which got panned, made almost a billion.
Name alone sells.
None of these studios cares about quality, aside from the quality of their marketing campaign since it's easier to throw money onto big ads rather than making a good movie.
Don't know what happened in so little time, just 10 years ago the big blockbusters were movies like LOTR.
Now it's just X-Men 40, Marvel movie with RDJ forced somewhere 30, WB's 10th movie made with the hopes people forget who Christopher Nolan is...

>>93079066
>felt like it was on par with anything marvel's put out.
And that's the problem.
Now they will limit themselves to copy Marvel's formula, and now all superhero movies will be the exact same movie with different character names.

>>
>>93079188
Yes, we are well acquainted with your ability to "know" things with an incomplete set of facts.
It's what makes you "special".
>>
I just got back and I can say that I liked it, while it was nothing amazing but it's nice to see that when you hand a film to a competent director you get a coherent product. There are problems with the movie of course, like completely under utilizing Dr. Poison not only was she a cutie and was well written but the actor knew when to ham it up and when to get serious.

Though the last fight scene was pretty dizzying, not nearly as bad as the last few cluster fucks but still pretty bad. I thought I'd hate gal Godot but she was decent for a model turned actress, and I like Wondy having an accent she comes from an ancient magic island of course there's an accent though it was funny seeing her "grow up" and seeing her English getting more broken as she got older. All in all a solid 7/10.
>>
>>93079168
I see people say they didn't like the last part of the movie but I can only assume it's because they're reminded they're watching a super hero movie and not a WWI film plus wonder woman.

The only thing I felt was that it's tiring, it's stale.
If this movie came out in 2008, I would have probably loved it, but now it's just pure fatigue.

Let's go see it too! It is why everything clumps together. WB however has been a laughing stock with DC and can't afford that risk anymore son now the films are spread out father in fear of another point and laughing spell from everyone when their next big name hero gets trash in ratings and sales by cape whos.

there is no problem. You are wanting to make one. You are walking into a comic book shop complaining it isn't a hardware store. Cape films are fine, they are not necessarily suppose to be "deep" or complex, for fucksakes it's about people getting super powers and putting on costumes to fight other costume wearing supers. It's really sad when we look at that and think it should be some serious gruff and dark shit when the narrative was always to capture the imagination letting kids pretend to be heroes and adults pretend to be kids again. Nothing is fucking wrong with them, the flaw lies in trying to turn them into something they were never meant to be.

The cinematic universe cancer is something new.
Back then you maybe had one of these movies every 5 years, and most of them were forgotten in an instant.
Now they are overshadowing everything, movies that could actually be good, even if they were blockbusters.
So at least, considering they make like 3 of these movies a year per company, ONE of them could have at least, a different story, work on the cinematography, on a proper soundtrack.
Is it really that hard to let these movies be good for the execs who control them?

Also Carol's origin sounds like a mess and it looks like they took out the Kree angle of her origin and connected her to the Quantum realm also taking every cosmic aspect.

Watch as she fights a cheap version of Moonstone and has a boring shitty grrrlpower plot not to mention after reading Gamora, which was written by the same person who is writing her script, I can already see how bland this movie will be.

People were furious about Superman and Batman killing. It's very interesting that Wonder Woman slashing soldiers and chucking them out the window is accepted as heroic, even as she believes they are innocent men under the influence of Ares, while Batman defending himself in his batplane isn't. The society Diana comes from is a bunch of 300-style killers. Diana and Leonidas both leave their fretting mothers to become gods of war. But it's okay because Diana wants to help people...by killing a bunch of other people so she can kill Ares and replace him. The rationalization is the same used by the Spartans, that military violence is an expression of love and justice.

For everyone that spammed MAN OF MURDER all these years I want an explanation.

Superman and Batman come with a shit load of baggage of who people expect them to be. Wonder woman doesn't have that. The first time she has been shown to a major audience shes hacking off Doomsdays limbs with a sword

The interesting one is Batman though because every movie incarnation has killed, except for maybe Clooney. Keaton just slaughtered people like an emotionless autist, Kilmer tricked Two face into plummeting to his death and Bale blew up the monastery and let Ra's die when he could have saved him

What has become clear with this movie is that people didn't have trouble with Batman killing after all. They simply resented Dawn of Justice for not painting a cheery veneer on the power fantasy. Someone who genuinely wanted to free the troops from the corrupting influence of Ares would do everything in their power to avoid harming them. This movie glorifies her wanton carnage in Snyder-esque slow-motion (remember when people complained about such things?). Diana only sides with Steve because he fought beside her on the beach. If a German had washed up on shore and fought with her against the British, she'd have been running in the opposite direction through No Man's Land (the correct direction, it turns out). There is no morality in this film. Just fighting for the sake of winning.

Some people are disappointed that in the end it's a film that glorifies violence and I can definitely see where they're coming from. I honestly thought it did but then I put it through the lens of servicemen of the time signing up for adventure or fighting for the greater good and other propaganda recruitment posters. She, without question, took Steve at his word that the Germans were "bad guys", much like any soldier at the time, but in the end they just came to understand it was a shit war they were stuck in fighting people just like them. I think that's what felling Ares was for her - killing the unquestioning motive to go to a war she barely understood. It's not as oppressive about it as Zack Snyder's films so I don't think it's as effective condoning violence but I the reading I got out of it worked out alright. Could have gone further with this idea, but it at least gets credit for addressing it, something the Marvel films never want to do.
>>
>>93085281
That's why these movies will never improve, because easily satisfied fools get fine with the movies just "trying" to be something.

I'd rather superhero movies end with all their hipocrisy and just admit violence is an easily justifeable mean.
