>kid3: im going to be an astronaut

In my defense making cartoons takes way more effort than laying games and i actually had a job animating stuff for a while ago

but you know the thing that really makes me sad

>Teacher ask who is your hero

>kid1: My dad
>kid2: Goku
>Kid3; Superman

Though maybe you have a point because I vaguely remember watching my cousin play vidya because I thought he was the coolest.

And at he end of the day I still wanted his video games.

I felt like I was up to date with everything the kids were into. I live on the Internet, I try to stay up to date on things and I'm generally always making sure to be in the know. I realized I was getting old when two things happened.

The first was that the Wii U came out, and had apparently been out for months and I had no idea. I apparently just stopped caring that much about NIntendo. However, that was just personal. The clincher was fidget spinners. At some point these things were everywhere and I had never heard of them before I saw them everywhere and I just don't fucking get it.

This is what my parents went through with my Pokemon and Beyblade craze. I understand now

Born in 1996 here. When 9/11 happened I really had no real understanding of what was going on. In my mind there were "bad guys" kind of like Team Rocket flying around in planes and dropping bombs. 1991, here. I remember 9/11 and what came after, but, to be honest, I never really paid attention to politics or the world outside of childhood before my dad gave me subscriptions to Mad Magazine when I was 12. Really, I only remember the Bush-Gore presidential race of 2000, but that's it. What was I supposed to notice as a kid, besides cartoons, toys and vidya?

I have very vague memories of being in the Twin Towers when I was a kid, visiting my grandmother who lived in Spanish Harlem. I think the Looney Toones mug with the WTC on it came from the gift shop, there.

I was in high school learning Japanese at the time. One of the things we did in Japanese class, as we were more advanced students at the time, was translate children's letters to their Japanese pen pals for them back and forth.

I got a letter a few days afterwards about a kid talking about it asking of the Japanese students heard about it. In the letter the kid was talking about how a couple planes flew into the a couple buildings and a lot of people died.

That day I learned the kanji for death and I'll never forget how I learned it.

>You never sat with an older sibling and watched them play?

Yeah but he's an actual human being I would talk to too in person and we'd work together to figure shit out.

It's not the same thing.

Basically everything I find out about thanks to the youtube main page in a fresh incognito/inprivate/etc window makes me feel both out of touch and thankful for it.

Any time someone asks me if I have a Twitter. I usually tell them no, rather than admit to having one I barely know how to use. Its just a graveyard. For some reason I have 3 followers, and I have no idea why.

>cartoons have progressively gotten worse and never gotten back to where it started

no youre just a mong that puts "the good old days" up on a pedestal. if you actually bothered watching shows that came out rather than just whatever is the latest trend online, you'd realize that cartoons have never changed. there's good ones, just like there's bad ones, and a whole lot of mediocre at best ones to trudge through to get to everything else.

it actually baffles me how drastically different things were before and after 9/11. like, fuck.

Met a kid in an IRC with the username "Propaniac" who was in diapers when that KotH episode actually aired.

KOTH is timeless so I'd just appreciate it
>>
All the 9/11 talk ITT as if it's the defining point of modern history. I'm old enough to remember the tail end of the Cold War, then the Berlin Wall falling and the USSR disintegrating.
>>
>>93073806
sure.
social networking and selfie culture.
The trend of watching videos of other people playing video games and screaming.
idle "games"

there are people graduating now who will never know of a time when memes weren't called memes, weren't forced for upvotes, likes, ect and happened naturally.
really though, that brief peace and the economic bubble of the 90's I grew up in made the days beyond rather shocking and depressing at times.

this thread is about what makes each person as an individual feel old or out of touch

if youve lived through any "major" event that impacted societal view of certain things or alter what is considered okay or distasteful in media and is utilized when deciding on whether or not to propose or pass a law, it can be baffling meeting people who were too young to notice the impact or werent even around at all before the occurence
>>
>>93079533
you know some cool people.
>>
>>93086260
Sure, but it makes me feel old to realise how many people were born after the Cold War, and possibly aren't aware of it as anything other than forgotten history.

Pretty much all of YouTube culture makes me feel out of touch. I'm old enough that I was around for YouTube's infancy, and more importantly, I remember a time before YouTube was ubiquitous. It's undoubtedly changed the landscape of the Internet for the better, but I never really got, and still don't get, the appeal of YouTube personalities.

Like, it's not even a thing exclusive to Let's Players, because you can find vloggers for pretty much any subject- but they all seem to share that same distinctive style of being loud and irritating. It isn't the content that annoys me, it's the delivery, but younger users seem to eat it up.

>Every new hit series that everybody watches and discusses. I've felt this way since I was like 15, though.

I for the life of me CANNOT understand how shit like Gravity Falls, Steven Universe or those goddamn horsies continues to be praised
>>
>>93073806
Why would I feel out of touch? Its the children who are wrong.
>>
>>93074245
I still don't know what these do exactly, I take it they spin but is that all? Feel kind of sorry for autistic kids that actually do need them to see their toy be turned into a shitty fad.

You can find a lot of vloggers that aren't the typical loud irritating screamer, to be fair, but yeah, it's weird how sheerly fucking popular that specific kind of internet personality is.

On the other hand, like, we had Newgrounds flashes, so apparently loud shitty "humour" is kind of an universal with young internet users. They just changed the specific trappings.

I miss MSN, met a lot of cool people and I don't even know where the fuck they came from but I didn't care used to stay up all night just chatting to random bro's.

4chan. I was here in year one, now I don't really recognize the place.

2012 was an end of an era for the internet for me. Don't know about anyone else but to me that's when Machinima wasn't making anymore content or rarely, let's plays were becoming huge, flash games you'd play for free on Newsgrounds were being sold on steam.

That was the cut off for me when it comes to the Golden age of the internet.

26 too, I think Steve Irwin dying was a bigger impact on my peers than 9/11. Goddamn, the Crocodile Hunter craze and animal thing was huge and the bastard dies from a stingray of all things. I'm pretty sure if he died to a crocodile or venomous snake nobody wouldn't have blinked twice.

Teen Titans Go makes me feel out of touch. Babysitting my cousins and that being their favorite show on CN kills me. Especially since Gumball is far superior to it.

For non /co/ I tried getting them into the original Crash Bandicoot and Spyro but they're so far into Skylanders shit it's basically too late for them.
>>
Going on Newgrounds. Sometimes I go back there to replay some of the games I used to play as a kid. I'm still waiting for the Madness Combat ending.
>>
Wojak, it's the most cancerous meme that's overtaken proper OC on most boards. It's a meme that should have died years ago yet still goes on and is mostly used for false flagging and shit posting. It sucks knowing it will outlive coalface.

Back in 2011 my pal had a huge Facebook where he'd post Chuck Norris memes. Now it's like Norris has been fucking erased from existance

They were really shitty memes, even for the time. Literally the first one he posted was "Chuck Norris IS OVER NINE THOUSAND!!". He's now into vaping btw

I feel old when I meet people who don't remember the Bush administration or the Iraq War.
