It's their only frame of reference. The only way they know how to communicate with other human beings. I have a roommate who's mildly autistic and in his 40s. Let me tell you a quick story about how I came to understand everything I needed to know about him briefly after he moved in.

I was playing Arkham Asylum in the living room. He comes out and sees what I'm playing and begins chattering about Batman movies. I pause the game, thinking this was a moment where I could make a connection with the game. I pull down several Batman movies from my DVD shelf and hand them to him, saying that I've got loads of them he could watch if he wanted. He stared at them, aghast, like I'd handed him a dead cat. He stammers uncontrollably as he turns them over in his hands, muttering about how he might have seen - and I'll never forget these words - "that frightening clown character" somewhere. He set them down on the table and never so much as glanced at them again.

I realized that he had no interest in Batman movies. Not in seeing them, nor talking about them. He just saw Batman on the TV screen and the words "Batman movies" was like a set of words that a human being might make, conversationally, upon seeing such a thing, and so he proceeded to make what he thought of as human-sounding noises in the hopes of approximating normal human interactions, only to realize as soon as he'd done so that he had literally exhausted his entire body of knowledge on the topic by acknowledging that they existed.

That's the sort of person you're responding to. They're just trying to come up with something that resembles human interaction given the extremely limited tools available to them with which they might do so.

I love MD, he was great as a parody villain back in JLI, then he reformed and was one of my favourite characters when he was in the JL and the JL Elite.

Whatever became of him? Does he even exist now?
