Could a Mantra title work in today's comics marketplace, or would it fall into the trap of trying to be "relevant" with it's transgender content and become preachy? I think a pure adventure strip with more a fantasy feel than the original and a tighter series of character arcs could be interesting. It was obviously a series with a lot of potential, and quite controversial for the time. Which is why Marvel instantly dropped Mantra like a hot potato when they took over publishing the Malibu titles and replaced her with an unthreatening and uncomplicated regular teenage girl.
