I haven't read his era because every page seemed to be angst or people being asses to him or something I don't want to read, especially out of Superman. It seemed like an awful and weird attempt to get out ahead of what a modern film would do, and do it in comics first.

The main problems with the Superbro's era was the constant switching of writers. The Morrison Action run is a good example of what could be done with the character and I didn't have a problem with unmaking the marriage (in the editorially mandated sense of making the universe friendly to newbies and casuals) but likewise, the entire line (not just Superman, but the Superbooks, and everything else) had the problems where editorial wanted to shove ALL the major post crisis stories of the DC Universe (not just Doomsday or depowered Superman, Brainiac bottling up Metropolis, etc.) and re-run them again.

The problem with this is that these story lines were mostly tweaked and not always in genuinely interesting and worthwhile ways. So long-time buyers were pushed away and new readers weren't really invested in the longterm.

Superman Unchained sold Batman/Spider-man numbers throughout its run, featuring Superbro, but didn't translate into sales for the other books.

I loathed the Superbro era, but I hated the way they just threw him aside. Up until the point they reintroduced the old Superman and categorically said that this isn't the Superman we remember, I think he could have been fixed.

It was good to get rid of him. I think it was a disservice to him and his fans to make him part of Superdad's series, but whatever. I would've kept things how they were, with Superlex and Wally/Supes being both pre-flashpoint.
