Yes, it's nice to have a villain that is a person and you either can sympathize or legit not want to lose... but sometimes you want a bastard! It's time to defeat the Mean Girl who's been nothing but useless and cruel. After it all, she ends up covered in mud. It doesn't matter that you paid so much for those clothes, and should have been less of a bitch about everything.

The standard template-made hero rips someone a new one (and here's proof you're the clone), or gets out of a trap (does Slumdog Millionaire count?) because they have experience. They're able to defeat the cold, sentient computer, or the high holy god, not because of "puppies and love" sappiness, but because they understand how things are supposed to be, the wonderful world this should be. Like All-Star Superman when Lex finally understands the limits of existence.

Even better if it's at the end of the story, like the villains last shot, and they sink into depression.

I just really like depressive sad stuff I guess. It's fun to watch once nice and wholesome things decay. I also really like:

recent cartoons like Adventure Time are good examples of this. There's more but I can't really think of them. I think the corruption of innocence thing is also really cool and interesting. Maybe it's more that it when things that aren't meant to be twisted are and the ones that should be twisted aren't. Most of the time it's way more interesting that way.
