Technically the next series (if it ever comes out) is supposed to be chapter two.

Also from what Millar was talking about it sounded like he was going to make Nemesis in this series turn out to be a Steve Jobs analogue and open Nemesis 2 with his funeral.

Kingsmen was still a pretty crap movie; a cheesy, goofy action movie plot soured further by the whole pants-on-head "govt can't save you but private enterprise will" message (not even talking about the villain's spiel) and Millar having to wedge his anal fixation in somewhere.

That church brawl was tits and a half though, not gonna lie. Just fucking beautifully choreographed.

Even Superior, a book with a little bit of heart that tries to go for that tries to score nostalgia points for the campy Donner's Superman is ruined by that. Nobody says "Oh my god" if they can say "Holy fucking shit nigger". It's distracting.

No, supposedly it's a new one. The one in the first mini is still dead (unless the old guy at the end is the guy who started the Nemesis corp in the first place)

http://www.cbr.com/millarworld-exclusive-spinning-off-nemesis-2-hit-girl/

>“In historical context, we’re similar to where we were in the Victorian Age where the masses feared the aristocracy, these men who seemed above the law and who, in some cases, determined how their workers were even going to vote. These fears emerged in pop culture with books like ‘Dracula’ — the idea of a count feasting on the poor, a blood-sucker in the most literal way, and this reflected the revolutionary vibe sweeping across Europe and Russia in particular at the time. In a similar way, I think that attitude has returned now with the gap between rich and poor being wider than it has been for generations. After 80 or 90 years of benevolent capitalism where people like Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark would be viewed as heroes, we now regard these guys a little more suspiciously. How exactly did they make this money and how do they sleep at night in their massive homes when people are sleeping rough on the other side of their electric fence? Can they justify importing 500 designer cowls from Japan when some people can’t feed their families in the neighborhoods they’re protecting? In reality, they probably wouldn’t be very nice at all. Nemesis is taking that idea to a logical conclusion and just being honest about it. This is about rich men putting on masks and capes and getting a kick out of beating up poor people.”
>>
>>93029001

>Within the pages of the new comic, the legacy of the very first man to carry the super-villain mantle will be explored as well as its inheritors. “I’ve alluded to the fact that the first Nemesis was an electronics billionaire, and the opening scene of ‘Nemesis 2’ is a funeral,” Millar said. “The funeral is of a world-famous computer genius. He was one of the world’s richest men, he was the original Nemesis. We have a little fun with that, dropping hints on who he really might have been and how his death was covered up. At the service, all these other billionaires are around talking about who’s going to be next in the costume. Who gets the next shot at this in their little secret society? We get a new storyline from that about a father and a twenty-something son, but the story of ‘Nemesis 2’ comes at the concept from a different perspective. The first one was all about people having to deal with a billionaire monster who was terrorizing them. In part two, we flip it around so people can see the inside of this club and how they train for all this to go out and have fun. And part three will be out in 2013, wrapping the whole thing up.”

Millar, rich people don't take joy out seeing poor people suffer. There is a difference between indifference and malice. This isn't a "logical" conclusion at all.

>>93029061
No, the concept as he's describing it there can be a good one. The idea of a secret society of millionaires playing Batman and terrorizing the lower classes for fun could go somewhere under the right writer. It's the execution that's terrible.

Did you know that for the first issue he planned that the President was going to be Obama, and Millar also planned for Nemesis to behead Obama at the end of the first issue? Then the editor told Millar that they can't do that otherwise the Secret Service could pay a visit.

>How the fuck do I have a career

No, "What is Batman was the Joker" is not an interesting or compelling concept. On its core it's just an excuse to have a "badass" villain getting their way, no matter how stupid it is.

>>
>>93029180

The concept is not the problem. You don't even fucking have to make him supertryhard-edgy like modern Joker. What is a problem is that a lot of this got increasingly illogical as the comic went on, and the first issue was already illogical to begin with.

If I am correct, this is set in the same universe as Wanted.

So, its safe to assume that the guy at the end is Fraternity?
>>
How do you rig a womb to collapse?
>>
Isn't Millar very religious? I wonder if this was supposed to be some kind of a pro-life screed.
>>
>>93030054

It is in the same universe as Wanted, but The Fraternity would be trying to cover that shit up or would've killed Nemesis sooner. I think it has more to do with the Fraternity being significantly weakened at the end of Wanted that it allowed Nemesis to make even bolder moves (the bullet train, his actions in the US) and also not doing anything when Dave and the others became superheroes.
>>
At this point my only headcanon is that all of this horseshit is happening in the same universe/multiverse that Wanted is happening in. Otherwise, I refuse to believe any of that makes even a lick of sense outside of Millar's mind.
>>
I am pretty sure I bought these when they first came out based on the "Makes Kick Ass look like shit" tagline.
Maybe that's why I stopped buying comic books.
>>
>>93030302
>At this point my only headcanon is that all of this horseshit is happening in the same universe/multiverse that Wanted is happening in.

It is, actually. Millar confirmed it in an issue of Kick-Ass 3. Kick-Ass mentions that there was some maniac killing cops in Japan, so the whole Kick-Ass saga ended just as the first Nemesis miniseries was about to start.
>>
>>93030478
Why didn't Kick-Ass just kill Nemesis?
>>
>>93030522
He already stopped being Kick-Ass by that point, he retired the superhero identity, then became a cop in NYC.

Now the real question is why didn't Hit-Girl just kill Nemesis.
>>
Wait, wait, wait, so Kick-Ass is ALSO the same unvierse? How the fuck is that supposed to work?
The entirety of Kick-Ass was about why super heroes IRL is stupid as an idea (I didn't read K-A3 still, but w\e), wasn't it?
And how the fuck any of this shit was even allowed by Fraternity, since it is still standing by the end of Wanted, just under different management?

>>

>The entirety of Kick-Ass was about why super heroes IRL is stupid as an idea (I didn't read K-A3 still, but w\e), wasn't it?

You didn't read K-A3, which would've answered your question--remember the guy at the start of the first miniseries? He died while trying to fly. At the end of K-A3, another guy tries doing it... but succeeds instead. Kick-Ass even mentions how there started to be more costumed crimefighters walking around (but obviously they're like regular people and not Hit-Girl level) even though he retired to become a cop.

>And how the fuck any of this shit was even allowed by Fraternity, since it is still standing by the end of Wanted, just under different management?

The Fraternity was still standing with Eminem but remember that the Superman-analogue villains and the Batman-analogue villains are all dead. That significantly reduced their power base. Had Seltzer and the others been still around they might've had better control over things.

No, what I'm saying that the entirety of both Nemesis and K-A, doesn't fit into timeline of main Wanted universe, unless they pulled of another fuckhuge mind wipe on the populace. Basicly, Nem and K-A can't happen before or during early Wanted, because Fraterinty wouldn't allow any of this shit to fly. It obviously didn't happen during later Wanted. And, again unless there was another mindwipe, most of Nem and K-A would make even less sense, if those are after Wanted, since Super villains are no longer a secret at this point.

Fuck, why does that even bother me as much as it does?
>>
>>93031062
>And, again unless there was another mindwipe, most of Nem and K-A would make even less sense,

By the sixth issue there was some sort of mindwiping or some shit going on because Eminem and his dad just went right into the restaurant and no one recognized him as the wanted killer on TV.

Marvel 1985 (also by Millar) was implied to have happened in the Wanted/Kick-Ass/Nemesis universe as well (Red Mist buys a comic that's described the same as 1985) and they covered up all the attacks by the Marvel supervillains. I'm pretty sure they could easily cover up the rampage by those villains even with the reduced number.

Chosen, Unfunnies, Wanted, Kick-Ass, Marvel 1985, Nemesis, MPH, Superior, and Secret Service take place in the same universe. We'll call this Wanted-Earth.

Jupiter's Circle/Jupiter's Legacy and Supercrooks take place in another. We'll call this Jupiter's Legacy Earth.

I forget where Starlight fits. Huck supposedly takes place on Wanted Earth. I'm not sure about the other stuff like Reborn or Chrononauts.

Technically the flashback parts of Wanted are what happened first, since they show what the Earth was like before the supervillains took over. Then in the mid-80's, the supervillains united and finished off all the superheroes once and for all. Then they altered time and space so that the superheroes never became superheroes (but they somehow remained themselves) since they had a Mxyzptlk analogue on their side.

American Jesus: Chosen comes first, since it takes place in the 1980's and is the story of a kid named Jodie Christianson who people believe is the second coming of Christ. He turns out to be the Antichrist and becomes President at some point. At one point Jodie wonders why the news didn't make a big deal about him.

Well in Wanted, Sucker (the Parasite knockoff) and Imp (the Mxy knockoff) were talking about how Control manages to keep supervillain actions under wraps, and Imp says that they could keep the second coming of Jesus Christ under wraps. He might not have been talking about Jodie but the actual Christ, whom Millar was going to introduce in the next chapter of American Jesus. But it hints they also probably suppressed news about Jodie.
>>
>>93035393
>>93039105
Marvel 1985 also takes place in the 80's and is about a kid named Toby Goodman who suddenly notices Marvel supervillains showing up in his real world. He finds out that the supervillains were summoned by his dad's former friend Clyde Wyncham (who's the first and only mutant on Wanted-Earth, probably not counting any supervillain from Wanted who existed prior to the change). Those supervillains caused a lot of damage, but at the end the epilogue takes place in 2008 where Toby is an adult who's recollecting the events for a comic he's writing. He also mentions that the whole thing had gotten covered up by authorities, which was probably the people working for the supervillains from Wanted.

In the first Kick-Ass when we first see Red Mist, he's in his civilian identity, buying comics. The retailer is trying to sell a comic which obviously is supposed to be 1985, and mentioned "the writer said it was a real-life incident, man's first contact with super-humanity." So that links 1985 with the rest of the universe, though from the perspective of the "real" world.

1985 itself links to a Marvel Universe where Millar's FF and Old Man Logan eventually happened since Clyde from 1985 plays a major role in those.
>>
>>93025613
Kingsmen had good choreography and that's pretty much it
>>
>>93025438
So what do you think Millar's goal is in making this? What is he trying to express, artistically, do you think?
>>
>>93027077
WAS GETTING CAUGHT PART OF YOUR PLAN
>>
>>93039314
>He also mentions that the whole thing had gotten covered up by authorities
Which makes no fucking sense. There were way too many witnesses, it would be impossible.
And what would the government even gain out of covering it all up?
>>
>>93029016
>how his death was covered up
How? Why? He's the man who kidnapped the President and killed thousands, there is no way you could cover up his true identity, too many people would be demanding answers.
>>
>>93039314
Unfunnies was going to be connected. In the original edition of Chosen Jodie was raped by Satan and his friends, and at one point on Millarworld, Millar confirmed that Troy Hicks was one of those friends, which would explain how he had the knowledge he did in Unfunnies. Troy's view on how there's no afterlife also matches up with Mr. Rictus' viewpoint from Wanted.

In the final issue of Kick-Ass 3, Dave says that he's not sure how well he and the other new heroes would do against the new threats:

"those guys breaking the sound barrier" (a reference to MPH)
"that lunatic killing cops in Japan" (a reference to what had been happening at the beginning of Nemesis)
"wave of celebrity kidnappings that's been happening all around the world" (a reference to what was happening at the start of the Secret Service).

At the end he holds the door open for a kid in a wheelchair and his friend, who happen to be Simon and Chris from Superior.

So it goes like:

Flashbacks of Wanted (anything about the time when superheroes were running around) > supervillains win, time reset > some parts of MPH > Chosen (80's parts) > 80's parts of MPH > Marvel 1985 > Wanted (present day parts) > Unfunnies (?) > Marvel 1985 epilogue > Kick-Ass/Hit-Girl/Kick-Ass 2/Kick-Ass 3 > Superior > Nemesis and Secret Service

I don't know where the Chosen parts that take place in the future would go though. Probably after Nemesis and Secret Service?
>>
>>93039440
>Which makes no fucking sense. There were way too many witnesses, it would be impossible.

Really? A fucking secret army of supervillains, which includes obvious analogues to Luthor, Mxyzptlk, Joker, etc secretly run the entire world and that's the part you have a hard time believing.

>And what would the government even gain out of covering it all up?

Did you read Wanted? The governments were controlled by The Fraternity. They wanted to cover it up because they don't want the rest of the Multiverse to be aware that they've taken over their Earth.

>all these people hating on the comic
God why is this board so filled with contrarians ?. Can't you see how great this comic is ?
Nemesis is not a Mary Sue, he's a clearly broken man who suffers a lot due to being so smart and competent. And the comic disagrees with him, too.
This comic is just a dumb comedy and you guys are trying too hard to hate it just because Reddit likes it.
I mean, you can dislike it if you want, but it doesn't mean it's shit.

You guys are just contrarians who hate things because they are popular.
>>
OP it's time for The Unfunnies.
>>
I don't see anything wrong with this book, you have to give credit to Millar for one thing, he knows how to write a goddamn page turner
>>
>>93052074
Nemesis is terrible in every way but it still kept me more engaged than every single superhero comic being published currently.
>>
>>93051992
>the Ultimates we wouldn't have the MCU or current Marvel.
Oh please, the only influence the Ultimate Universe had over the MCU are character designs, purely aesthetic things that Millar can't take credit for.
>>
>>93052267
there is an argument that Hitch is the most important person in the industry
>>
>>93052074

A page turner implies you are invested in the plot and are surprised in the twists, in which case you are a pleb because he's obviously just going to say "yeah but he actually had that planned all along!!!!!" at every single turn.

It's like how after TDK was released every movie had to have a Heath Ledger's Joker rip-off villain with an elaborate masterplan that mandatory involves getting caught (Skyfall, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Blacklist, Avengers, Law Abiding Citizen, the legion of shitty low budget movies about this archetype) while missing the point that this only works with the Joker because he doesn't care about the outcome and just does things because it's funny so it doesn't matter to him if none of the ideas make sense and would probably fail. Except written by a 12 year old.
>>
>>93052009
Oh god, please no.
>>
>>93052483
Honestly it was dumb even when Joker did it. TDK Joker was a lot like Nemesis only he was supposed to be taken seriously and lacked the Batman aspects.
But at least it worked because by that point it wasn't so overdone and you could excuse The Dark Knight for being poorly written shlock because the action was fun and Heath Ledger's performance was great.
>>
>>93052305
His work on The Authority influences basically every single high-concept action series.
>>
>>93052658

You can tell Nolan hit gold by accident and it was mostly down to Heath since he tries to do the same gimmick with Bane only for it to let slip how completely nonsensical that plotting style is.

>Flatline still counts

I hate this meme in fiction (the prophesy says that for there to be another slayer buffy needs to die (and magical forces count your heart stopping and then receiving CPR as you dying herp derp)) and when people say it in real life (hurr durr I actually died once (when surgeons stopped my heart for 5 minutes for an operation so no I didn't die at all)) but it's especially terrible here since what on earth else could it possibly be referring to other than what happens at the end. Nemisis still considers it a victory if he tricks the detective into watching the movie Flatliners?

Some people in this thread got it right: this is not a fundamentally bad idea. A modern day version Fantomas, or Diabolik, with an outlandish villain terrorizing the world and constantly outsmarting a tenacious cop with increasingly crazy plots...
But Nemesis is so devoid of anything resembling charisma, his plots aren't clever and require no skills other than literally having the writer on his side, he's just a walking plot-device for astonishingly retarded action scenes stringed together by shocking twists that are put there exclusively to make the most braindead of readers go "the absolute madman".
>>
>>93025635
I enjoy his work. I don't know if you'd call it ironic. I'm pretty sure Millar knows his stuff is edgy, over the top, and stupid, and I enjoy it for what it is with that in mind. It's big loud dumb fun. Edginess can be fun.

The best explanation for all of this is that Nemesis had some weird Groundhog day powers as Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow.

So let's say that one day he figures out he basically restarts from a certain checkpoint like a video game character each time he dies. He then starts figuring out what to with his powers and eventually after years of fucking around he becomes Nemesis and does what he did in the comic.
>>
>>93066049

>Most people try to reconcile it by saying Morrison ghost wrote the majority, which I can see besides the ending, which is pure Morrison.

This is one of those weird urban myth type deals which kind of took on a life of its own.

Morrison and Millar were friends at the time when Millar was writing Red Son. They were reportedly on the phone, shooting the shit about stuff they were talking about. When Millar was talking about ideas for the ending, Morrison made a suggestion which made it into the book. Millar was like "That's fucking smashing. Mind if I use that?" Morrison said to go ahead and Millar did.

From that, the idea that "Morrison ghost wrote most of it" somehow took root in the popular retelling of the story. It's weird.

>>93052267

there's lots of concepts from the Ultimates in the MCU like trying to make the origins more grounded and tied to the same sources, trying to be as modern and realistic as you can be, constant pop-culture references, trying to streamline famously overblown plots, the Triskelion, Thor being an alien/other dimensional being rather than literal a God, the Chitauri, everyone having quipy personalities, Nick Fury being black, Spiderman being a 15 year old kid in highschool, having the characters gradually showing up in each others stories until they unite as a team, ect, even that great long take in Avengers with all of them fighting off the ayy lmaos together is inspired by the famous pull-out battle page in Ultimates Vol 2
>>
>>93067498
It's also shit writing when Batman is handled that way but at least it's not as cringily edgy when the protagonist happens to have already had a plan to beat the bad guys rather than the bad guy happens to already have a plan to murder innocent people for no reason.
