I'm jealous of ER since I'm pretty sure he and I were the two Anons who wrote up all the criticisms about the show, but I have a speech impediment so my videos wouldn't get viewed in the slightest.

What I do disagree with him on is Korrasami in that I think Korrasami could have been fucking awesome if done by better writers. He is absolutely right about Korrasami being pandering nonsense, but it didn't have to be JUST that.

The show could have even had a sense of humor about the two being caught in homoerotic situations only for the fanbase to go ballistic when subtext became explicit text.

Basically, the biggest problem with Korrasami IMO is NO FUCKING KISS

Korra sucks because the characters are crappy and unrelatable, the stories are short and isolated, the powers that used to be unique and interesting are trivialized and boring, there are big dumb robot suits that feel totally out of place, and there's barely any character progression. Also pro bending is gay and lame.

Avatar was great because you grow to care about the characters as they grow over 3 seasons from some dumb kids to formidable fighters. Aang coming to terms with being the avatar. Zuko's redemption. Sokka becoming a man. Toph just generally being awesome. Katara's growth and struggle with revenge. Building up to a climactic battle that is just amazing.

Aang vs the fire lord. Azula's descent into madness. And I particularly love Sokka and Toph's ragtag team to take out all the airships. Toph looking out of the airship and exclaiming how much fire there must be. Sokka having to throw away his unique sword in a desperate bid to survive. The whole thing is brilliant.

The biggest problem with Korrasami is Asami being uninteresting entirely superfluous to the show past the halfway point of Book 2. Not only is her role kind of pointless, she actively has reason to NOT BE THERE (i.e. she has a company to run) after Book 2.

Why Asami? Unlike Katara, or Zuko, or any of the popular shipper-bait characters, Asami's only saving grace is a having a good character design. She doesn't have much of a personality or quirks to speak of and she's just generally not interesting.

THAT'S why Korrasami gets pandering criticisms. It's not homophobia or "my ship lost!"; she's just spent so much time being a 6th wheel narrative-wise that pairing her up with Korra would have been like pairing Cloud up with Vincent; the only notable thing about the romance is that they're just two attractive characters in same sex relationship that mouthbreathers like to ship with everybody.

Like I said, at worst it's bad writing because it feels like it comes out of nowhere. But since it's the last thing that happens and doesn't affect anything, it really doesn't matter at all. There are 4 whole seasons of huge overarching problems that are much more important than some stupid shipping bullshit at the very end.

It is just bad writing, and there are worse things about the show, but this specific point of bad writing stands out because of all the time they spent on dragging out the romance shit over the entire series only for them to pull something completely new out of their ass to wrap it up at the last minute which rendered all the romance shit up to that part pointless.
