Spinnerette was good because it was just a free, if reduced quality, version of Empowered without fishlips that came out more often. Chochi art and fetish fuel were a great bonus to /co/.

The problem is that while Empowered added character development and drama to the formula of cheesecake and superhero parody, Spinnerette straddled the line awkwardly between parody and playing straight while trying to lace in social justice plotlines for no real reason.

So all you had left was fetish fuel and Chochi. Chochi left for the most part, and when you remove the actual humor from the characters you're just left with uninteresting tropes, unexplored potential in what is there, and overall a disappointing ride where you keep reading just to see if the few characters left you want to see will appear and be used to their potential.

Take the Stan Lee arc for example. It drug on and on and on and ON, there was great potential for humor but most of it was low-hanging fruit that we've all seen made and made ourselves countless times before, and in the end it just, well, ended without anything memorable and without payoff. In fact, I'd gamble most of you forgot it even happened and what little you remember is just 90's Spinnerette, the transistor line, and sexy evil Minerva.

It had potential. That's the problem with most of Spinnerette, it has potential and never actually gets used.

If they'd have kept at least a bit of subtlety they could have done a great parody of the current superhero culture with winking quip-heavy and discordantly toned movies and stupid reboots in the comics.
If they'd have gone all in and went for full ludicrousness, it'd have been sexy The Tick.

Instead it played most of it too safe, literally pointing out the visual jokes and just trying to keep the situation funny after several months of the arc going by.

When the regular villains are so silly, they are badly out of place with the constant reinforcement "These guys are asshole neutral, not evil, srsly audience!" Even the other Spin character, the drider, at least was a subversion of something.

Wonderella is another actually successful cape parody I can think of that show what Spinnerette could actually be if it was a bit sharper with the comedy.
