She was a high-level telepath who was hired to kill Sabertooth. Sabertooth wrecked her pretty much straight up enslaved her. Her telepathy also had a calming effect on him which was pretty useful for a feral maniac like Sabertooth. Also, Sabertooth ended up becoming addicted to her powers, so he kept her around as his slave/sidekick. She was killed by Sabertooth's own son, causing Sabertooth to attack the X-Men and kidnap Xavier in order to feed his addiction.

That's what Xavier ended up doing. Instead of calming his emotions like Birdy did, he forced Sabrertooth to face his bad emotions and memories.

This was bullshit from the Maverick solo comic and contradicts what is in Death Hunt (Birdy's frist full role). It was clear she betrayed Sabretooth because of his disrespect towards her and for money. When she pulled a child version of Sabretooth out of his mind by accident, she tried to comfort the child instead of attacking a stunned Sabretooth or running. An abused slave wouldn't have done that. She also had no problem talking back to him.

In a later comic it was also shown that Sabretooth did like her. He attacked Gambit for bringing up her death while he was pretending to he harmless.

That's because she wasn't a slave she was an employee. In death hunt she got pissed at him and TOLD him she could fuck him up that way. And he basically dared her to try it. She basically sold him to his son because she was tired of his shit.
