alright, /co/
it's time to put your money where your mouth is

you want to make a new website for animation and artwork, but don't want it to fail as hard as NG

how do you do it? and can we do it?

>find advertisers that aren't all pissy about being associated with some risky content
>offer ad spaces at lower prices that play before the even riskier stuff
>cut deals with animators and try to lure in more
>get 3d animators as well, particularly SFM/Gmod due to how many people use it

The idea is becoming a lucrative haven for animators before they succumb to the LP meme.

From what I remember,, Youtube and the Iphone killed it: one for availability and accessibility of content and the other for lack of support on its widespread platform.

Just want to chime in since Im building some websites, one of them to host media related stuff but the problem as always is Server/CDN/Bandwidth cost, people doesnt bother to optimize their video files and shit since they are like, lol, I aint paying for the bandwidth anyway and sure I dont like Ads either but people are so stupid cheap to even even pay like, iunno $5 per month as some type of subscription to use a site, if they did I couldnt care what you publish as long as is relative legal in the US

One excuse I tend to hear is, I dont have a credit/debit card so cant use stuff like paypal and such so I got into some contract with some localized cash payments proccesors in Mexico,Colombia,Brazil,Chile,Russia,Japan (like Kombini/FamilyMart) and Im currently talking with some services in Philippines and Malaysia

They've done most of this.
not necessarily gm/sfm.
I've even seen claymation/stop sketch.
>>92965831
google blacklisted newgrounds from their whole ad network and purposely put youtube results for newgrounds videos first(if even including NG).
also doctored search results to remove most other video websites when searching.
lots of new talent has been coming in recently, hopefully they keep the trend up.
I've been there too long not to miss it.

>>92965837
They almost have a subscription thing going.
It's a subscription for some lame benefits like a /vip/ forum, emoji, page status/badges and no ads.
surprisingly it's working pretty well last I checked, they even have enough to award cash prizes in art competitions.
also, They've been frontpaging even adult things lately even though tom used to be such a prude.
>>
>>92965831
oh, also, they fixed mobile issues as far as I know.
at least for videos.
I don't have an I phone/I-anything to verify this.
>>
>>92965942
What a really dick move on google part.
>>
>>92965966
gotta kill the competition.
when you control who can be seen/heard on the internet, you have no opposition.(yes theres other search engines but google is too big)
what's great is all the animators who left for youtube were screwed themselves when they changed the payout formula to one more fitting of LPs and other easily shat out, no effort videos.
this has been a loss for amateur animation and art as a whole.
most cling to patreon now as NG still isn't profitable without the biggest ad network on earth and they don't have a nice portfolio other than "self employed" in their history to get art jobs.

>Tom fulp:
Back when we were kicked off Adsense years ago it was for inappropriate content on the site, but then years later I got us re-approved but never actually re-launched the ads on NG. When we set up the NG YouTube, I attached our Adsense to it, at which point they disabled it again and never gave me a good reason. Now when agencies approach them on our behalf to try and get us up and running, they say it's for suspicious click activity - which I guarantee we NEVER did anything like that - but it's also really strange because it feels like it's something they tacked on after the fact.

I could see the potential that a script kiddy could have pegged the ads on NG thinking he was helping / hurting us but if that happened we were never notified of it back when we were initially kicked off. My paranoid side says that YouTube just doesn't want another video sharing site surviving in their presence.

How did newgrounds """""fail"""""
It had a very good run and had a big impact on internet culture.
>>
>>92965837
You can force a limit on the size of the video files.
>>
>>92965966
oh, and additionally
>tom fulp, in response to me:

"This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine... Google is supposed to be impartial in terms of knowing and representing the original origin of the content. However when we've sponsored animation that appears on Newgrounds weeks or even a month before YouTube, when the YouTube version finally releases it becomes the #1 search result."

For example we sponsored #changethebees by HappyHarry. Was out a week on NG before YouTube but look here:

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#safe=off&q=%23changethebees

Also going even further, look what happens when you search "change the bees"

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=change%20the%20bees

The YouTube video is embedded there right at the top of the results - it gets preferential treatment for a close match, while the Newgrounds version isn't even listed there on page one.

Newgrounds wouldn't be called a failure anon.

It lasted a fair amount of time and its impact was immense.

>had a big impact on internet culture
what is it & how much of it's still here today?
what, is it Egofaggot for becoming a SJW lets player & marrying some skinny cunt only for her to pack on the pounds?
is it oney who pretty much does the same?
is it the ending sleepycabin?
is it psychicpebbles who whines about trump online & apparently sold one cartoon to a studio which isn't a guarantee it'll even be on adult swim's app

only actual success stories i can think of are harry partridge (still animates & is one of the more celebrated guys that do), shadman (who's probably going to get busted for CP if not get amazing amounts of legal shit for drawing porn of real people), & Zone (who'll probably get a ton of shit taken down for copyright eventually)

don't know what your idea for "immense impact" is, but in my mind it's something that lasts & remains for at least a decade

a large portion of todays online culture, especially a lot of the shit you see thrown around in lps which, face it, is a huge internet phenomenon, came from shitty flashes on newgrounds in the early 2000s.

all the viral shit that fell out of people like theweebl and that asshole that made charlie the unicorn made waves online before youtube even existed, and a lot of the people who indulged in that shit are the people that shaped the shitstain that is youtube today.
