I like the old guys too, but there really is something fun in that gimmick of the characters who literally grew up superheroing all their lives. Just a neat perspective.

I feel the same way, I always preferred The Titans over their mentors. I think it's because they're allowed to be written as more human characters. DC has a thing where the big 7 heroes are often written more as symbols/virtues than people, they're untouchable. The Titans aren't because they don't need to keep up DC's reputation for iconic, perfect heroes.
