I got my degree in 2011 and it took until 2015 for me to find the right job.

I did a degree in sciences and my job is in a part of government that isn't at all related - it was all about the other skills such as being analytical, good with numbers etc not just the subject matter.

Got a nice work/life balance as my superiors reinforce not working overtime if possible and limit how much you can really help people or it'll chew you up not being able to find a perfect solution each time.

That's because they don't. School is to keep you stupid, and held back, while telling you "you should do better" but doing nothing to help, because it isn't their job to help. It's their job to keep you stupid, but make it look like it's your fault and you aren't trying hard enough.
The only acception to this are the core classes you learned in 4th grade. After 4th grade the classes get bigger, and I don't know how anyone in their right mind could think putting 20 kids together in the same room could help them learn anything.

The honest answer, is it depends on how it turns out. Nobody cares about the rational of a previous choice when things turn out OK.

If you can make this work. It'll be fine. Do well in school and enjoy time with your girlfriend. You should be fine. But if you slack off and or break up with your gf, you'll probably regret it. But it's not really going to be the decision you regret it's the outcome.
