Real talk, I have a degree, because my parents raised me to believe that a 4 year degree at a university was objectively the only way to be successful and that I would be a failure otherwise. I'm lucky, because my parents were able to help with about 2/3 of my student debt, but I'm still in debt.

Now I'm grinding my ass to dust working 50+ hours a week at 2 part time jobs, one to pay my bills and one for experience to eventually, hopefully break into my field legitimately and be able to work just a little less for more money and a stable schedule and hopefully healthcare.

If my parents had ever ONCE entertained the idea that I could be a successful person by picking up a certificate for a trade, I think my life would probably be a lot better, but that's not the narrative people our age have been fed, we're told our whole life by every authority figure that the path to success is one specific thing, and then when we reach the end of it, we find out that the people who were steering us in this direction (my dad's a factory worker making like 35/hr, my mom has had the same job since she was 19 and now makes an equivalent amount, neither are educated) had no idea what they were talking about, it can be intensely frustrating, especially when you've basically reached the point where it's time to either do or die.

I'll admit that some people are way too liberal when applying this method but for a short gag webcomic, too many panels or too many words can really detract from a joke. This edit in particular showcases this. The "or am I?" text is extremely superfluous when the facial reaction serves the exact same purpose and is in many ways more effective. It's better to let the art speak for itself rather than adding unneeded dialogue.

Outside of the people who'd been funneled into full time grueling work before their age was in the double digits, every generation has been scared and confused and had no idea what they were doing as they transitioned into adulthood. The difference between earlier generations and millennials is that the earlier generations tended more to keep their mouths shut and assume everyone else knows what's up, while millennials are more likely to be open about it.
