Snap your fingers and he'll be right there!
That freaky bald dude in his underwear
He'll drop his trousers
And fight to save the day! the day! the day!

There he goes in his dashing cape!
Here he comes in his tighty whiteys
All the bad guys soil themselves every time they hear him say
Tra la la!

The animation for this movie is the best I've ever seen, and they keep to the source material amazingly while incorporating elements from multiple books. Overall a blast to see. except that Krupp got a happy ending

I can't wait to see the film, but I have a question, are George and Harold's voices as jarring as they are in the trailer?

>best animation
>$38 mil budget
don't fucking tempt companies like that. the animation had some moments where you could tell how cheap it was, though admittedly it was funny how they joked about their low budget a few times in the movie

>>92928778
i got used to them after a bit
though when they sing it's pretty fucking awful. thankfully it doesn't last long and they squeeze a nice joke to soothe the pain
>>
>>92928235
Is the movie worth me going to theater and looking like pedo?
>>
>>92928778
The voices are strange, but you get used to it pretty quickly. What the movie lacks in casting it makes up for in visuals.
>>
>>92929101
yes. there were many moments that i found myself laughing out loud. they have a good mix of well done potty humor, physical gags, sly commentary, etc. if it makes you feel better there was a good amount of adults at my screening. nearly 60% were adults
>>
>You live in a time where you can enjoy a movie about your favorite childhood superhero.
>>
has anybody scanned the art book yet? it's worth the full price of $40. i would scan it but my scanner is very small. but it's worth checking out, especially if you are also a cartoonist/animator.
>>
>>92929221

books especially, i can find the captain underpants movie artbook for $20
>>
>>92929170
were they are parents, though? i feel like it should draw a good college crowd. i'm 24 and planning on going. i was going to wait a bit, but now...
>>
>Captain Underpants -> CU
>Marvel Cinematic Universe -> MCU

What did they mean by this?
>>
>>92929260
actually yeah most were parents. i think i was the only college kid but i didn't give a fuck. the movie's good and the kids were all quiet and not running around or screaming. i guess i got lucky

also i feel it's silly that you'd let something like this keep you from going to watch it. if you want to watch a movie, just go. no one really gives a fuck, and the theaters just want your money lol
>>
>>92929242
I had a bunch of bookstore giftcards from a birthday that I had been waiting to use on something like this. I try to buy as close to the source as possible (that is, not amazon) so the artists get as much money as possible and will be able to make more things i like. plus if i bought the book secondhand it would not be registered as a sale.

i know this sounds strange, but it's less embarrassment and more wanting to not intrude on kids getting to watch the movie with a bunch of other kids.

i remember at toy story 3, though, it came out the summer before my senior year of high school and there were tons of other parents and high school aged kids there also bawling their eyes out. it was great.

Does flip-o-rama "works" in the movie?
What books it's the plot based on?
It's funny and fast paced like The Lego Batman movie?
Is Poopypants funny? or just a plot device?
Worth watching it on 3D?
How does the Krupp/Edith relationship goes?
>>
>>92931274
During an action scene George interupts the action by giving the Flip-O-Rama disclaimer. Harold proceeds to explain all the action happening off screen through his own drawn flip-o-rama.

It's an amalgam of the 1st 4 books, with lots of easter eggs from the later ones. Most heavily it's a reference to the 4th one but is also very similar to the 1st one.

Pretty much.

He's funny, and they still keep him SOMEWHAT sympathetic.

I dunno. Didn't watch it in 3D

George and Harold actually set them up with a fake love letter prank. They go out to dinner together (which gets interupted by talking toilets and Krupp becoming Captain underpants once again)
>>
>>92931375
Bless you anon.

Does it end like "here we go again!"

If not, I'll cut my nutsack.
I hope it does well on the box office to get a sequel.
>>

>that sympathetic krupp and him growing as a character
>edith a qt

>that final scene

>>
>>92931274
yeah at one point with the turbo toilet george and harold told the audience that the fight is too violent and expensive so they resorted to flip o rama. you see harold basically just flipping through a comic he made that's pretty much exactly like in the books. pretty funny. as far as which books, it mixes the first, second, and fourth book, basically how captain underpants came to be and poopypants with the turbo toilet. in the end you see the smaller toilets come to life and wedgie woman in the credits, as they allude to a sequel. the humor is kinda like lego batman but funnier to me, and pretty fast paced yeah. in a couple of parts the audience was laughing too hard at one joke and didn't hear the one afterwards only to catch on to it a second later with delayed laughs which was pretty funny in itself. poopypants is also hilarious, he makes a lot of commentary on the modern school system and kids that i think older audiences will appreciate. as for the 3D, i can't say since i stopped watching movies in 3D a few years ago. it never seems to be worth it in my eyes. as for krupp/edith, they end up dating at the very end from a "prank for good" by george and harold.

I was sitting in the front row right by where he was giving his presentation and it was one of my worst school experiences.

I was actually against Captain Underpants because it looked silly to me, even at third grade and was kinda making fun of a kid in my class who was reading them, though I guess he didn't get that I was picking on him since I was calling CU Diaper Man or something and he kept insisting that it was actually Captain Underpants, so I just gave up trying to mess with him.
When I got to the fourth grade, I stared reading Ricky Ricotta Mighty Robot books and loved them. I realized they were made by the same guy as CU and decided to give them a chance. I ended up liking CU and even got a copy of Wicked Wedgie Woman and an CU activity book or something that even came with a Hypno Ring. I ended up losing it like a week later.
Really loved this movie, made me giggle and laugh hearty from the inner kid in me that loved Captain Underpants from way back when.

I had the same worry when I was going to watch the UK premier of The Peanuts Movie all by myself, but in the end it turned out to be the greatest cinema experience I had in my life. The cinema hall was almost empty, and I was over delighted about the two years of hype that lead up to that day.

This is VERY important.

No. George and Harold are the narrators, sometimes freezing the movie Zack Morris style to talk to the audience. The first time they do this, they say, "I'm George Beard, and this is Harold Hutchins." But no mention of the hair or "remember that now."

Yes. Lego Batman had an opening of 14mil and only did 310 in the end.

Just got back from watching it, and by God, its actually fantastic. I was worried that it might be been terrible, but it captured the spirit of the books perfectly. I'm actually surprised just how much they incorporated from the books, almost every running gag is there. There isn't even that much potty humor, ironically enough. It's like a mix between the Peanuts Movie and SpongeBob at its prime, just with a faster pace.

11/10, couldn't ask for a better adaptation.

Depends entirely on when and where you go. Opening couple of weekends for a blockbuster movie between 7-10, and theaters will be pretty damn full. Especially if you go to a popular place like the Drafthouse.

You'll rarely see a theater packed to 100% capacity because once the middle to back rows are full, people can't get their favorite seats, and would rather just see it later rather than sit in a shitty spot and not enjoy seeing the movie.

All right I'll call your bluff.

Where's your source?

I hope we get a sequel. They estimated 20 million in it's opening weekend. The grossed 23 million
So thats good?

>awkwardly take a seat because I'm watching it in the first showing of our somewhat rural theatre, lot of kids but it's only around 60% of a fairly small room at best
>halfway through the movie I'm cracking up with the seven year old girl next to me and her hulk hogan clone dadorgranddad
It was a fucking magical moment
As for the movie itself, fucking hilarious, charming animation, glad they gave Krupp some more depth and empathy to him, as opposed to the book series. It was always pretty jarring to me after the hiatus how clearly dav had an axe to grind, not that some of hat grinding wasn't hilarious.

I've had a few faps to Edith by now
>>
So how does the anatomy of Edith even works?
Skinny legs but a huge belly?
Just a cartoon but the hole topic haunts me
>>
>>92986101
Everyone in Underpants has those kindof lanky but potbellied proportions.
>>
>>92986215
Yeah. But Edith's face kills me.
>>
I hope it gets a sequel dammit
If boss baby got one, why not CU?
>>
Anyone else pissed off with how Cap was always treated like shit in the books by George and Harold despite being a pretty sweet guy?
Yeah he was objectively a pain in the ass and a danger to himself until the third book, but after drinking the super power juice he became a real hero who save the world on more than one occasion.
And then the poor guy gets pretty much erased from existence after all that time travel fuckery

>>92986781
I'm 22. I might ask a friend if he wants to go see it but I'm not too sure if he has read CU.
>>
>>92986781
22, saw it with my 23 year old best friend a few hours ago.
If you grew up with the books you will love this movie. We laughed 10x more than the kids.
>>
>>92987464
I'm also 23, just saw it with a friend who is also 23 at a 10pm showing. We were the only people in there - it was really fun because the movie was really funny and we didn't have to hold back at all. As somebody who loved the books as a kid and has been anticipating the movie since it was announced, I was extremely satisfied. It's packed with so many jokes that I could probably see it five more times and still laugh.

Just do it anon, it well worth it, especially if you saw the books

Even if the theater is full of kids, you'll have a blast because the movie is actually a love letter to the fans

yeah on the one hand Pilkey's axe grinding was both fully accurate and often funny, on the other hand it kinda mucked up certain aspects of the final six books

yeah that was the weakest part of the final 6 books

Oh to have a sequence with Krupp and Captain Underpants.
>MK: Don't you see? Look at yourself! A grown man running around in your underwear and fighting loonatics!
>CU: That's just what a superhero does! The world is constantly in danger, it's only fair someone keeps it safe!
>MK: Think for a minute, you briefed bozo! Look around you, look at all the people you've fought, all the places you've saved, what's the one constant?
>CU: Uh...
>MK: GEORGE AND HAROLD! Every time George and Harold are there, they're chasing you, they're giving you advice, they're helping you.
>CU: That's what a sidekick does, citizen!
>MK: But they know all about the villains, they write the "history books" about things that have yet to happen, they know these villains inside and out before YOU DO! All those people, place, things, they're all George and Harold's fault!
>CU: They just want fun, they're kids! It's normal for kids to-
>MK: To brainwash people, to humiliate and mock everyone in their path? The vandalize and ruin school property!? Open your eyes, old man! They're the villains here! I'm trying to keep children SAFE, and if that means a few broken spirits then so be it!

It's so weird that they made an animated Kingpin movie before Spider-Man's even got released. How does this even fit into the MCU?

Will Captain Underpants get a sequel?

Watching this movie gave me Earthbound/Mother vibes, and I loved the art direction. I love Captain Underpants, but a little voice inside was pretending I was watching all the wacky weird stuff happening to in Onett.
