The art's pretty mediocre ( esp the coloring ) I agree. And Snyder and Tynion are both hacks so the art was the only thing I'd have been giving this a look for.

This seems to be an exploration of elseworlds.

Morrison (and others) winnowed things down to the 52 universes, had the monitors and other shit.

Snyder, also a wannabe science buff, thought about the concept of dark matter. What is between these universes? The answer? Dark multiverses. It's dark as in dark matter, not dark as in evil/edgy. It's come up a bit in Snyder's Batman run, especially in Superheavy.

I think the end result is going to be Nth metal's going to originate from there, explaining it's strange properties, and the Justice League (and potentially others?) are going to get stuck.

There's a few new characters, some who get powers from the dark universe, some who are...I guess masterminds of it.

I've no idea what the plot will get into. I think it will tie into the multiple Jokers, though. One of the descriptions says it's going to examine choices every hero hasn't made, and we're probably going to get an alternate batman killing the joker or something.

For artist appeal, I think they're sort of relaxing some of the house style limits. There's been no formal announcement about it, as far as I know, but one thing they're consistently talking about is letting the artists have freedom to go wild.

If it catches on, this may be a sort of DC Ultimate (except instead of more realism, it's going to be more crazy).

The idea of mixing the Golden and Silver Age origins was something Steve Gerber originally planned to do when he had a Hawkman pitch, but it got rejected. Then he took the idea of an ancient human being reincarnated into an alien and going after his killers (who've also reincarnated) and made it into Void Indigo.

Johns' take was just reincarnating Khufu and Chay-Ara into various past DC characters and then just the Golden Age versions.

I'm not entirely certain but I think that Scooby-Doo comic's the first time I've seen the Golden and Silver Age origins combined together in print.
