When did BKV get this preachy?

It also seems out of character for that tranny to go on about "muh feelies" since he is an actual war vet
>>

You have noone to blame but yourself

>>92894836
i dont remember YTLM being like this. or runaways.
>>
>>92894752
that reads awful, sandman did the trans thing better, sympathetic, and not preachy.
>>
>aliens
>caring about superficial shit like genitalia
nigga you got horns on your head
>>
>>92894752
This is literally "a very special episode" tier shit. No one likes being preached at, and it's fucking pointless because the people who buy Saga are already fags, so what's this supposed to convey? A power fantasy where the trannys self insert as that bitch?
>>
>>92894752
Who would want to objectify an ugly tranny?
>>
>>92894936
Look just because their civilization is ahead of ours by 100s of years and span dozens of species whom surely do not fit within any human conception of sex and sexuality doesn't mean they can't tackle our modern social issues.
>>
>>92894861
Isn't Y all about how fucked up gender roles and shit can get?
>runaways
Did you forget about Xavin?
>>
>>92894817
This is par for the course with all Brian K. Vaughan comics. Well, that and murdering main characters in horrible ways.

Still a big fan of his comic work. I don't mind his preachy SJW rhetoric; it's never bothered me.
>>
>>92895034
In YTLM women are shown fucking up the world all by themselves without men to blame.

And Xavin would have been an interesting char for him to explore how a shapeshifter race -for which physical change is trivial- would deal with sexuality (but they never went far enough with it).
>>
>>92894861
Y: The Last Man was nothing but an SJW sermon. How did that go over your head? Again, I'm a huge fan of Y:TLM, but I liked Ex Machina more.
>>
>>92895192
>Y: The Last Man was nothing but an SJW sermon.
What? How?
>>
>>92895192

What was the "sjw sermon" about?
I remember women are literally shit and evil in it, and it takes yorick going nuts to finally realize that.
>>
>>92895034
>>92895192
>>92895277
The thing about Y is that it *had* to be about SJW shit. The entire premise was about the women-men dynamic as well as power struggles and the sort. That's like saying Children of Men was a SJW sermon cause well... it was.

>The entire premise was about the women-men dynamic as well as power struggles and the sort

But it doesn't show that even after something resembling "normal" society had been re-established, the world was any better without men.

In fact it ended exactly as the same, with 2 world powers on a cold war.
>>
>>92894752

What was YTLM about? And could you give some context to this saga character? I only read three pages of the first volume and gave up.

Also are the SJW messages that appear in plenty of modern comics just a product of the demographics, the creator getting brownie points, or the creator's actual view?
>>
>>92895450
what? im not saying anything about the 'message' about Y, just that the story was inherently tied to gender in society
>>
>>92894752
Wait, is that the goat dude main character from early on that I saw all those pics of in Saga threads? A main character became a tranny over the course of the comic?
>>
>>92895517
gender and society being part of a story's premise doesnt automatically make it "SJW"

it has to actually advocate for a worldview in which social justice is archived by cultural marxism
>>
>>92895379
Exactly! I loved Children of Men, too. Vaughan's SJW sermons work because they are central to his stories' themes.
>>
>>92895632
And BKV made a joke about "cultural marxism" early on in Y:TLM, with the engraving on Yorrick's zippo lighter: "Fuck Communism."

Cultural Marxism, just like the Marxist political view can be easily corruptible.

Petrichor's ENTIRE character is being preachy. Hell, she explains that she dislikes other horns because after all the things she did as a soldier, they still wouldn't treat her like a woman.

It happened in the last arc. They had to stop because they ran out of fuel (if I remember correcly), and they were stranded on a warzone for several months. In short, Alana got pregnant again, they grouped up with lemur aliens, a Freelancer found them,
Marko killed him but not before Ghostgirl bit the bullet, and then they escape as the rock they were stranded on gets thrown by the warring factions into a newborn eldritch abomination, similar to the one which appeared in the first issues. The refugges also die

What a shitty storytime.
>>
>>92894752
Things like this do make me cringe, even in stories I enjoy and even when I agree with the point being made.

I feel like it is something comics have always done, but they used to do it because the audience was children. Now we have comics ostensibly aimed at an older audience, yet they STILL do this thing where they talk to the reader like they're fucking 12 and need to learn all about the world. It's jarring. It's like watching a TV drama and suddenly having the characters act like they're on Sesame Street.

it really comes down to the fact that the majority of people don't like to be preached at or talked down to. which is what a lot of these books do now. it's more about the agenda rather than the story.
i was recently having a discussion about the trial of starfox story from dan slott's she-hulk run. it was about him being a rapey fucker and also being responsible for thanos' obsession with death because of the nature of his (starfox) powers. it was a really smartly written story that dealt with sexual assault, coercion, and harrassment in a way that wasn't preachy or in your face like so much of this social justice writing is now. it was a really good story that dealt with social issues.
it's hard to find that kind of effort in comics now. it seems like a lot of these writers take the easy soapbox route like Waid and many others rather than craft a story about whatever point they want to make in a thoughtful intelligent manner, which used to be the norm.

>take the easy soapbox route instead of crafting a story

Because SJW usually don't wan't a story: a story involves characters with distinct and often, opposing worldviews. And a plot that gives the context of their development and goals.

When you want write multiple chars with differing worldviews, you have to strengthen their arguments for it, however badly you disagree with them, or the story wont be interesting to read. There is no drama if you already know who is right by page 2. SJW really really don't like doing this, because it actually forces their mouthpiece chars to address flaws with their worldview.
>>
>>92896023
it doesn't fit the preachy agenda they're pushing
>>
Felt pretty neutral about the comic overall, but this issue was pretty bad. It tried to tackle two social issues out of nowhere and did so badly, but the third strike was the plothole front and center- why the fuck don't they say the kid's dead already? This isn't nitpicky stuff, the existing dilemma does not make any sense.
>>
>>92898212
the sad thing is, writers like Slott, Waid, Bendis are perfectly capable of crafting that type of story. they've done it tons of times throughout their careers. they would be able to get their ideals out to a much wider audience if they still wrote that way. it's sad to see these guys sell out their standards and ethics to become blunt mouthpieces.

now writers like the thing currently writing Miss America i wouldn't expect this from. they're nothing more than hammers meant to pound you over the head with their agenda, it's all they're good for.
>>
>>92898175
Completely overlooked this, over how retarded it is they don't just tell them she already miscarried. It's weird they pick a super late-term abortion, something lots of people already pro-choice don't condone, to use as an argument for abortion. On top of the fact there wouldn't be a problem of they communicated like sensible people.

This is frustratingly stupid

my wife and i lost a kid when she was 6 months along. she was immediately treated and the fetus was removed. nowhere in the modern world will tell you to fuck off we can't take the baby out in that situation.
the reason the baby being dead doesn't get brought up is because they're intentionally pushing a "muh body, muh rights" agenda without any sort of context. they just want you to see one side of it.

1. Its not one of the best running comics atm. Not even in the top 20

2. It has less to do with politics and more to do with the comic going absolutely nowhere for a while and the kid's narrator voice losing giving exposition that would later contradict itself because the writer forgot about what the comic was supposedly about

That's not the problem with the most recent issue. I roll my eyes when people start throwing around the term "sjw agenda" in response to extremely minor things that they don't like. This isn't what's happening here- they're trying to be progressive and doing a really shitty job of it, to the point they should not have tried. The writing in #43 is nonsensically bad.

what do you think about putting our contemporary partadigms about biology in a scifi setting?

>>92899807
Depends on the setting and how it's done.
>>
>>92899807
>what do you think about putting our contemporary partadigms about biology in a scifi setting?

Its a cheap cop out

Specially for a comic that doesn't have to deal with normative "humans", but still makes all the aliens behave like humans and have human-spectrum-like sexuality.

Thats one of the reason i stopped liking Saga very early on

It depends on the skill of the author and the audience. Frankly, Saga isn't being written for the traditional /co/ audience it's trying to branch out and is doing so rather successfully desu. most of the saga readers i know are girls, queer, or both.

If the author is good enough and the audience who cares about and is affected by this issue like it then it can work.

It because in this day and age you'll be seen as "problematic" if you don't tow the line and give the exact same spiel as everyone else. Combined with the fact that the perceived audience can't stand the idea of the "bad guy" not being a complete irredeemable monster you end up with preachy stories about punching one dimensional Nazis and preaching to the coir instead of a thoughtful piece of work.

>I refuse to be defined by my genitalia

I'm perfectly fine with someone having this mentality. If only they lived up to that mentality.

The problem is that, anytime you ever see a human say this, they follow it up by defining themselves by their sexual urges and/or fashion sense. You're not being a rebel by rejecting your birth equipment when you turn around and self-limit yourself in a different way. You're not a free soul, you're a fashion victim.

Its like... how ever Goth kid rejects traditional styles in order to... dress up and act exactly like every other million goths you surround yourself with. You're not a rebel, you're not going your own way, you just elected to leave one tribe and join another.

I'm waiting for some dumbasses to claim they reject their biology that they need to breathe. Swim down to the bottom of a pool and test that theory.

You do know that goth is a culture with dozens of different styles, right? Go ahead and tell me that Voltaire looks the same as Peter Murphy.

You sound like those people who see social justice and gender role oppression issues as central themes in just about everything you set your eyes on. Consider you may be ideologically possessed, bud.

This in context don't seem bad at all, kid ask, idiot tries to talk big language out of defensiveness, confuss kid and gets back to actually addressing the kid rather than lecturing when its layed out you're not doing anything right by being confrontational about everything.
