Because it's a competently written story that put fun over point
And because it's competent, it's fun and poignant at the same time
The Snugglepuss issue Russel did is also good, despite the fakeout the preview did

it's a lot less interesting than you guys think it is if you look at it as a whole. What happened in the series? Were the characters delved into that much?

There are entire sections of the comic where it's literally just the writer speaking to us to go on some monologue about how marriage is an illusionary trap
>>

Really? thats sad, source? because I can't seem to find any news of cancellation

Because it's not Rebirth.
>>
>>92894591
That can be okay though. Philosophical and sociological explorations conveyed through narrative don't have to be bad, it's just that the majority of books that attempt something like that are either obnoxiously preachy or dumb as hell. Flintstones plays everything relatively matter of fact, and while it certainly has something to say, it doesn't really come off feeling forced or preachy. You can complain about the lack of character arcs or an overall plot, but that doesn't mean the panel to panel interactions aren't entertaining in of themselves. Just because you personally don't like the format doesn't mean there's no inherent value to it, and making the blanket claim that everyone else is wrong in their opinions it only weakens the validity of the issues you bring up.

Mark Russell's a good satirist.
I honestly don't get why people say it's edgy, The Flintstones comic is like Futurama except instead of science fiction, it uses prehistoric analogies to satirize current life.
Shame that even the short lived exposure it had outside of /co/ didn't save it (probably because the people who found out about it don't know how comics work)

Quality of writing. Author's previous work was also outstanding. Prez, the quasi sequel.

I think Russell said on the iFanboy pod that he really only ever envisioned 12 issues, not an ongoing. Some things only need 12 issues. That said, Flintstones wasn't "edgy," it was funny and sad and well-constructed, so that each issue stood on its own and yet built on one another very gracefully. It never settled on easy reference to or reverence for the source material and it had a fucking voice and things to say with it.

It was a very special comic. Just because people in the mainstream recognized it as meaningful doesn't mean people here who haven't read it should just shit all over it.

>>
>>92903610
>Exodus 23:9

That just meant to be hospitable to outsiders who joined the Hebrews, not every random outsider. The rest of the Old Testament is very strict about maintaining a distinct nation and culture.

Also modern Jews have nothing to do with Biblical Hebrews.

Hospitality =/= unlimited immigration, no matter what Obama says.

http://www.wnd.com/2014/10/what-bible-says-about-illegal-immigration/
>>
>>92904113
You're right, hospitality, especially in the ancient world, had a very particular meaning which included protection, providing shelter, feeding the person, giving them the best care and comfort possible, etc. Whereas "muh immigration" just means letting people live without caging or killing them.
>>
>>92904075

>>
Not much to add. Just chiming in. Great comic. As a coming of age guy, its even better.

Gazoo is the breakout character. His arc has been my most favorite part of the series.

I think it was scheduled to run just 12 issues.
>>
>>92904255
I think you're being deliberately obtuse.

There is nothing in the verse that supports unlimited immigration or open borders.

The difference is that Futurama is filled with Golden Age Simpsons tier satire and wit. I enjoy the Flintstone's comic, but a single writer simply can't compare to an all-star ensemble like that

Within academic history its agreed upon that Western civilization is built from three main contributors: Greco-roman culture and intellectualism, Abrahamic spirituality, and Germanic tradition.
Denying that the bible is the main book that Western civilization is based on is truly asinine. Note that there are no important books that outline Germanic Tradition. Similarly there are many books defining Greco-roman culture and not a single could be chosen as the most definitive. The exegesis of the bible also thoroughly incorporates the most critical aspects of Greco-roman intellectualism, as best represented in the works of St. Augustine. Religious or not, denying the central importance of the bible and Church in Western civilization is to deny the most objective historiography to date.

It's a standard "human from the real world ends up in the Marvel universe and decides to become a superhero" story with cute art. What really makes it stand out is that the whole book is a less-than-subtle metaphor for the nature of escapism, so Gwenpool's fun adventures usually lead to her own misery because she assumes that comic book logic will waive the consequences of her action.
