What are you guys think about the surge of Prequel Memes as of late?

Honesty, I think they've done a lot to make it, well- the prequels- an accepted part of Star Wars again. Yes yes, I know about the clone wars tv show, etc. but I also remember the MASSIVE fear posting that TFA would be like the prequels. From just talking to people I knew even- it was everywhere. And since evidently we don't think of TFA as a Prequel styled movie- we made fun of the old.
At first in anger, and now in jest.

The difference I'm seeing between it and the Prequels is that the final RotJ fight between Vader and Luke focused on Luke's reaction to things.
It was about Luke and it didn't hide that fact.

The prequels cared more about the big set piece battle than how any one character felt.

The supposed explanation for this is that Williams and Lucas had a falling out over the way his music had been edited in Episode 1, and intentionally half-assed it and produced less of it because he felt Lucas was just going to do the same thing. The whole thing about the Dark Side is that we're shown time and again that it's not a good thing to use it, and that the people who do range from jerks (Nightsisters, Bendu) to worse than Satan (Sheev).

Even in the case where a Sith took over the galaxy's known regions, the order he imposed came at the cost of heavy corruption, oppressive policies, and totalitarianism.

At best anything good that comes out of the Dark Side is accidental or a small victory. At worst, it's something inwardly at outwardly destructive like Anakin's attempts to save Padme resulting in the Empire, his crippling, and a dead wife.

I completely agree with the notion of the Dark side being a slippery slope, however using Yoda and Obi-Wan isn't exactly beneficial to the argument. These people were wrong. They've made corrections, they've became more enlightened in their later years, but still were wrong about Anakin to the very end.

Qui-Gon ultimately served the Light. He never was Grey in the sense of being a Donut Steel who can inexplicably use both sides of the Force because "so edgy and awesome." The thing to be careful of is that while yes, you should accept that the Dark Side is a natural thing and it is not to be repressed, at the same time, you must not give it strength by utilizing it. Repressing it only causes it to boil up, but using it will also hurt you. That's kind of missing the entire point of the scene. Throughout the movie, Luke has walked a fine line, and it's clear throughout the final duel that he has no intention of harming his father so much as bringing him back to the Light. It's not about the physical battle, but the emotional and spiritual one.

When Luke prevails in the physical battle, it's not how things were planned at all. Rather than being triumphant, the music is mournful, as this is the closest the evil has come to ultimate victory. There's no glory here. Luke sees what he has done, the temptation of the Dark Side and the quick and easy path to power it offers. Yoda's words are relevant to this moment. Who needs discipline when getting pissed is enough to let you overcome a Sith Lord with years of experience on you? The music segues into the Emperor's theme and Luke looks at his prosthetic hand. And with all that, Luke rejects the Dark Side and what it has to offer, and affirms himself a Jedi like his father before him.

The movie rejects the Grey Jedi meme, and only people focused more on power levels than story and characters are capable of missing something that obvious. It's not like we're dealing with an arty experimental film with layers upon layers of interpretation. But then again, who am I to underestimate the idiocy of the average pleb?

I hate how they've made Star Wars so black and white just cause that's the shit Lucas grew up with.

Well, it's clearly not how things were planned, but I don't quite see how Luke would have gotten out of that scene had he not done so. It was the Emperor's actions that were the final catalyst for Vader to kill him, and I'm not sure if Palpatine would have gone into full rage lightning mode if Luke hadn't first beaten Vader, then rejected him. The cat-and-mouse thing with Vader could have gone on forever, until the Rebels blew up the Death Star and gave it an extremely anticlimactic ending.

The more I learn about TFA (all the rejected concepts, how the story group was shut out, etc.), the more I hate Jar Jar Abrams. Just when I think TFA couldn't possibly have been more bland and fucked-up, I discover something to prove myself wrong.

Say what you want about the prequels, I can agree that they had lots of shit acting and shit dialogue, but at least they tried to so something interesting and original and brought a lot to the SW universe, at the same time being consistent with its previously established themes and events, resulting in a much more satisfactory story overall.

As we saw with the ridiculously convoluted scheme at Jabba's palace, Luke isn't exactly the greatest of planners. For all we know, the real reason why he was out in the middle of nowhere in TFA was because he was taking some time off for himself after Ben ruined things but forgot to refuel his ship.

Anyway, Luke probably was counting on continuing to hold off Vader (the match is fairly even for various reasons, although as we see when Luke kicks his father, the younger Skywalker was hinted to have the advantage if he was to take advantage of the Dark Side) while trying everything he could to appeal to his better nature. At most, Luke was probably trying to disarm Vader without doing serious harm to him. The ideal conclusion probably would have been convincing Vader to turn back to the Light and then confronting Palps together. Best case scenario then, it works and Sheev either turns out to be a better person than expected or they take him down without resorting to the Dark Side. Worst case, they die trying but do so with the moral high ground.

Regardless, no one in the room knew that the Rebels would succeed as and when they did.

The idea of using mirrored letters as capitals actually makes a lot of sense. But while in real world we often use capitals to emphasize something, since that way letters become bigger and more attention-grabbing (look around you - pretty much all the logos, labels, store signs, news headlines, even memes are in caps), in Aurebesh it becomes redundant.
