Nothing. It was considerably better than any of the other video game-based cartoons prior to and at the time. Ironically, most of them were made by DiC, so they were fucked from the start.

Diddy had the worst voice ever and Candy was a bitch

The show might have improved if they died or something because most of the other characters were vaguely entertaining (King K. Rool and Cranky in particular)

I remember reading somewhere that too many vhs/dvds, especially animations have lousy boxart because the distributors don't bother contacting artists to draw on model.

Incredibly early CGI using motion capture to resemble the games looked like absolute shit, throwing tons of enemies in instead of developing plot, DK's not a very likable protagonist, and everything was dumbed down with flapping lip animation because from the start it had to be dubbed into English, French, Quebecois French, and Japanese.

That being said so many of the songs were off the fucking hook.
