The comic books are their own continuity (or continuities) separate from, but very similar to the show.

Adam, Aisha, various allies and the post-S1 Zords have all shown up, but only in parallel universes. Lord Zedd, Dark Specter, Master Vile and the Zeo Crystal have all been mentioned, but only in Annual stories, and those're clearly just whatever the writer/artist wants to do (Bulk and Skull becoming Rangers last year's annual f'rinstance).

MMPR Pink is clearly supposed to be in season 3 continuity, but I'm 90% sure the writer said that mini isn't necessarrily meant to be canon to the ongoing book or its plans.

Lastly, and most importantly, the show was set in the 90s, and this is a low-key modern reboot, with Bulk and Skull having smartphones and everything.
