>How do you kill a world?
>One life at a time.
The foulest stench is in the air. The earth has turned sour and barren. All that walks, crawls, swims or flies is dying. And far in the distance, a fire burns in the city. Something has happened. Something is wrong. And by the pricking of his thumbs, something wicked this way comes. From Kek-W and the inimitable Dave Kendall, this is the story of the end of days. Step forth, be recognized, and bear witness to... "Fall of Deadworld".
>>92862029
Big ups to the anon on the win-o-threads who diligently rips all finished stories from the weekly progs and posts 'em before I can do the same. Fastest ripper in the /co/!
>>92862052
Anyway, Fall of Deadworld is a spinoff of sorts to "Dreams of Deadworld", the four part miniseries by the same creative team. But while Dreams was set in the days between the Dark Judges killing the world and that fateful day Judge Death took a trip to Mega-City One, Fall is exactly what you think: the story of the final days of Deadworld, and the people who fought back against the darkness.

(You can imagine how that went)
I'm sure this nice old man isn't going to die tragically

A+ wordplay there.
>>92862546
That... is a pretty heavy retcon, if he's talking about the Dark Judges. Or it might be an alt continuity. Anyway.

Enough to be just below the legal limit.
Thanks Judge Anon, always been meaning to read Deadworld.
Alright, just made me a cuppa and I'm ready to carry on ssstorytiming! But first, here's a short little interlude.
>>92863637
My pleasssure.
This has been a great story. It's a total rebirth of the Dark Judges as a serious threat - without throwing away the comedy.
>>92862573
It is a retcon: they're turning them into cosmic horror. To me it's just building on thrm as agents of reality change like you got in Half-Life.
>>92863799
>>92863759
To me the big triumph of this series is that it lets the Dark Judges win and win really fucking hard. It'sss hard to take them as a threat when they always get punked in the end. So by breaking them out of the usual cycle of "arrive, raissse Hell, get ass-whooped by Dredd/Anderssson" you give them back some of that horror vibe.
been a little behind on 2000 ad. where is the start of this story? thanks
>>92863327
He's scarier mid-change than full-change.We get to see Fear flex his muscles later and I can't wait till they give Mortis the same treatment

>>92863800
I'm curious if this will ssstick in the main universe Dark Judges. Maybe we'll find out in Dominion.
>>92863848
It'sss right here!
>>92862029
The story's pretty recent, although it does follow up on a lot of stuff from Young Death: Boyhood of a Superfiend, from back in the late 80sss.
>>92863835
That's true. It also pushes the horror element all the time and severely. Even the cadet flashbacks are completely demented. The art is a great strength.
At the same time you totally see how post-this you get the eccentric, bored Judges of Deadworld. They need something to do, judge, kill and while they're doing that they're fucking scary.
>>92863920
What's Dominion?
>>92863920
>>92863921
That's something about the Dark Judges that I really like: they're not jussst about killing, they have an art to it. Each judge develops his or her own method of killing, and in doing ssso manage to express their individualities much more than their Mega-City One counterparts, making them much more of a dark mirror.

>>92864353
Plot twissst:
>>92864388
NOT evil!
>>92864274
The violence in this is really well conveyed. It's completely willing to show the gore but also willing to pull out and show you the reaction of the perpetrator instead when it works better (like some more reflective horror films will).
The important violence on this page is really being done to Fairfax, and that's what we zoom in on once the action is established (Fairfax's reaction is also what Sidney is watching). The starved, traumatic look of the cadets - and pretty much everyone, later - really works too.
>>92864454
Uh-oh...
>>92864487

>>92864946
Logically it's a truism. But if you feel the urge to start acting on it, then definitely.
>>92864930
>>92864946
The problem is that you can't really argue with a psssycho. Sidney isss unable to see the good in humanity, to see all the things that make it worthy of pressserving, and therefore cannot be swayed from his visssion. Yes, the dead cannot commit any crimes, but the dead can't love, can't laugh, can't create, can't draw pretty picturesss of sexy ladiesss... just focusss on the glass half-full, anon.

>>92865214

>>92865124
Having it open with them looking back at Fear (but also the reader) is a nice touch.
>>92865238
>>92865131
That soundsss about right. Maybe he wants him to bear witnesss, to be the last human to kill. Maybe he'll make a ssstatue out of it.
>>92865282
What's kind of interesting is we see that Fairfax is Sidney's protege, but he's introduced as the fixer for the Chief Judge (who is nominally opposed to Sidney, being deposed in a coup).
Now that might just be a concession for the sake of the story. If it isn't, though, Fairfax must have switched allegiances.
A similar discrepancy for me is like how even years ago when Fairfax is a cadet there seems to have been a huge breakdown in the system - Sidney already has enough authority and power to just kill a judge-tutor and supplant him - which you wouldn't expect to go on for years before a collapse. On the other, while the collapse seemed faster in previous Deadworld stories, an agonising slow apocalypse before the final nights of violence does feel very Deadworld.
>>92865394
>that first panel
Heh.
>>92865438
>>92865416
I feel that's just building on what we sssaw in Young Death: Sidney was too brazen, too bold and too brutal for anyone to ssstand up to him. Remember the courtroom scene? It'sss likely that Sidney wasss like that for years, terrorizing Justice Dept and basssically doing whatever he wanted with nobody having the balls to sstop him.
It iss also possible that Fairfax is younger than he looksss. Living and working in Deadworld mussst be hell on your complexion.
>>92865307
>Are you high?
>YEP.
>>92865507
NOT THE EYESSSS!
>>92865507
>It iss also possible that Fairfax is younger than he looksss
True, but being considered basically the top judge would indicate experience or phenomenal competence.
Unless he's got some kinda true clone bruv background like Dredd but what he know so far seems directly opposed to that.
>>92865165
>While you were partying i studied the beartrap
>>92865571
AW SHIT
>>92865553
Remember, this isn't Mega-City One. This is Deadworld. Being top judge isss probably more about being a brutal monssster than having experience. If you're ruthlesss enough, you can basssically brute force your way up the ranksss. And Sidney did have hisss eye on him...
>>92865622
>>92865617

Aww, it's like this story isn't going to end sadly and horrible
So where do we think this story is going? Why do people think it's an alternate universe and not the OG Deadworld?
>>92865910
Well seeing as we've seen the ending which is with the Dark Judges winning and whole world dead I'm pretty sure it will.
>>92862573
he's referring to phobia and nausea's gods senpai, it seems to imply that they're real and responsible for their powers/appearence

>>92866311

>>92863800
Judge Death was always kinda a dimension hopping cosmic horror, just in a silver-agey way. They just modernized the concept.
>>92864649
Eh, this book is pretty tame DESU, calling it guro would be a stretch
i said this before in other threads about the dark judges but i really do hope that dreams and everything eles related to the deadworld gets collected into a trade
When you think about it Death and the Dark Judges was always a weird archenemy for a generally hard sci fi story like Dredd. It was very cheesy silver agey 60s style horror almost.
Updating the concept to be a old ones style hard horror makes sense and allows them to be a threat once more than the comic relief theh had become in recent years.
It seems like a good fitting retcon that answers fundamental questions about how such somewhat silly supernatural horrors like the Dark Judges exist in what tries to otherwise be a hard sci-fi setting.
>>92865802
So Judge Child exists in this universe?
Is this setting up for deadworld being restored?
And prophecy is not a hock of shit it was in the Dreddverse?
