Mike needed Sandy's influence to get to the point where he was angry enough to go December on Lucy, otherwise he would've just stayed mildly irritated at most. At the moment, Mike doesn't really trust anybody who would criticize the way Sandy treats their relationship, and he's always been really defensive about it anyways.
Sandy will probably blow up on him at some point, but he'll just quietly take it. If the relationship does end, which it will, she'll be the one to break up with him.

True, not going to lie I've kind of gone this way too. Their wits suit each other better than Paolo x Lucy and they're super candid with each other. But what's happening now is interesting too, the characters haven't really talked a lot in the past year and the relationship may become more appealing as they get to know each other better.

Taeshi's structure and proportions can be off, but I'd say her stuff is better largely due to her shape vocabulary, line quality/variety, character expressions and color sense. People give her a lot of flack but there is a lot of stuff she gets right. Biggest issue is that she doesn't understand the 3D structure of her characters 100% so they will often be flat or have misplaced features. However that's not an easy thing to get right by any means, the amount of work it takes is immense and most people are doomed to struggle with it (incl myself).

I do kind of like this as an alternate, expanded version of the part in "December" where he scolds her for her shallow, self-absorbed lack of perspective. Instead she sees it for herself.

The story would have to take a really different turn after this. Lucy gets as bad as she does by "December" because she stops hanging around Augustus after being snubbed at the bus stop and becomes totally isolated (because it's not like she doesn't have a large circle of friends and family who adore her). She might get over being rejected by Mike earlier or not take his hatred so hard if she had someone to run to and cry on.
