I think these commercials are really insidious for both men and women. I recently graduated with a degree in ECE and people really don't realize how bad it's going to get for people who are under skilled. Economist et al like to harken it back to the days of horse -> automobiles and that there will be growth in other areas to offset the employment opportunities lost due to automation, but the breadth of change (and how fast it will change) due to something like self-driving trucking (shipping, logisitics ect) is going to be fucking biblical. A vast majority of Americans (and humans, as costs of manufacturing are driven down with each new tech. iteration) are just going to become obsolete overnight, re-training won't save us (assuming that most people under or unemployed now even have the aptitude to be re-trained) and will have no bargaining power at all in the new world they exist in, no systems in place to protect them.
