>>92835671That's literally my plan. I'll stick to the OT, the PT, and the books/comics/cartoons.
What was the point of him?
>>92835212
The Republic is pretty much a large and galaxy wide representation of America.
Palpatine takes a lot of cues from Bush and that era of politics. Literally a corrupting force within the government staging a war so he can form a fascist Empire.Lucas was a little early with his art though.
The Separatists are another part of America, but with the foolish notion that they've escaped the corrupting influence of the current Republic politics.
Every part of the Separatist Council is pretty much a laundry list of things liberals hate. The Trade Federation is Neimoidian based (they're pretty much colonists now, mainly western and chinese influence) who have members literally named from Republicans of the 90's, the Banking Clan represents money and scummy bankers, the Techo Union most likely represents how slimy tech providers profit off of war and it's spoils (like oil), and the rest of this council pretty much follows this path.
tl;dr Lucas is a liberal and every aspect of Star Wars is pretty much continuing this vision.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate what happened in this episode?
The climax of the episode is a literal recreation of the Mos Eisley Cantina scene, LITERALLY SET IN MOS EISLEY CANTINA, where Greedo and Lucas face off, and Lucas shoots first.
He literally made an episode where he recreates the Han/Greedo controversy, with himself as the protagonist, and he shoots first.
LUCAS. SHOT FIRST.
He is an absolute madman. How can you hate him?
>>92836991
Why did he change the original movie to Greedo shooting first in the first place?
>>92833544
>Brunson
>not Sloane
I am disappoint
>>92837030
i believe, at the time, he said it was because he felt like han shooting first made him seem like less of a hero and more of a scoundrel low-life. WHICH WAS THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT
UGH
>>92837030
I think Lucas just wanted to up the stakes by making it more clear that Greedo shot too.
The final Blu Ray version has them shooting basically at the same time, too.
Some people suggest that he was trying to make Han more sympathetic by dispelling the idea that Han would shoot unless it was self defense. But Lucas himself maintains that Greedo always shot, it just wasn't clear enough in the original version. (To be fair, that holds up, they're just an explosion and a puff of smoke in the original)
>>92837030
The movie would have been bumped up to PG-13 if Han "shoot Greedo in cold blood" like that.
>>92826393
Why is she such a semen demon?
>>92836958

>>92837191
That's such a silly thing to say, considering Lucas was happy to make a PG-13 Star Wars movie. He must have known that showing a man burning alive would have required such a rating, so it can't have been an unavoidable surprise to him.

JJ just simply doesn't know how to make a Star Wars movie properly.
>>92825849
In this scene, Palpatine literally tears down the Senate.
>>92838680
>So rather than so something like make it a digital shot, he had to go with the practical but terrible solution.
That didn't stop him using digital effects for the rest of the film. Either way, the shot when they arrive at Skellig Michael was pretty much entirely digital as well so that can't be the reason. A still shot would've been nice like anon said.
>>92838858

>>92839795
I'm not sure if it was intentional, but that spaceport and Jedha City both felt like something out of a Moebius/Jodorowsky comic. There was a sense that these were real, living locations that TFA was lacking. Abrams went for "used universe" but didn't realize there's more to making a universe feel lived-in than just throwing some dirt on something.
>>92839531
I wish Rogue One had more species variety. The Rebel Alliance consisted of several Mon Calamari and a couple of other aliens, but the rest - not just main characters, hundreds of background ones - were humans. Why? Some of those pilots, for example, easily could have been aliens, especially those who didn't survive to be present for A New Hope.
On a related note, remember when one of the writers twitted how "Empire is a white supremacist organisation"? We dismissed it as retarded, because it is retarded, but actually in the movie itself all the Imperial officers are white human males and nothing else. Meanwhile Rebels/comics/books have plenty of black officers and female officers, but not Rogue One for some reason. Again, why?
>>92840089
>Some of those pilots, for example, easily could have been aliens, especially those who didn't survive to be present for A New Hope.
We sort of got that, though. The few aliens we saw all died. That's likely why they did it, just so that you don't go from Rogue One having all these aliens hanging around and then watch ANH and they're all mysteriously absent. So you pepper a few aliens into the cast and then kill them off.
>>92839927

>The Rebel Alliance consisted of several Mon Calamari and a couple of other aliens, but the rest - not just main characters, hundreds of background ones - were humans.
It was long established the Alliance didn't have many allies before destroying the Death Star. Once it was gone, many systems rallied with them. See the difference between ANH and ROTJ.
>Remember when one of the writers twitted how "Empire is a white supremacist organisation"? We dismissed it as retarded
The adults in these generals understood exactly what he meant and we didnt throw a shit fit. He was saying the Empire is extremely racist (towards non-humans) which it is. We've had the Nazi parallel since '77. Not sure why someone pointing it out is a big problem.

Sequel:
A STAR WARS STORY
We all know about Boba Fett and Han Solo and all that stuff. But what do YOU want?
Given the opportunity.
>Vader
After the rise of the new empire, Vader is tasked with hunting down the remaining Jedi who escaped Order 66. Plot would be half Jedi running for their lives and half about Vader actually doing his shit. Obviously we end on a sad note like Rogue One, maybe Vader's final scene is him being called to handle a crisis on Scarif.
>Kenobi
About Obi-Wan Kenobi doing...stuff on Tatooine. I don't know. Counting banthasheep maybe? I have no idea what the new canon is gonna have him doing on that planet besides pissing on Maul's grave.
>Trooper
Set from the point of view of a Stormtrooper, leads all the way up to him or his child or whatever working for the First Order. Great tie in for all that.Palpatine
Everyone's favorite dark lord of the Sith. It's his origin story. It starts with him being Emperor getting a personal message from long, long ago. Vader asks him about it, "It is nothing." Before going, personally, to the edge of the galaxy, a secret sith temple perhaps, known only to him after all these years. Interspaced with that is a series of flashbacks:
You get to see Plageuis, young Palpatine his rise to power.
>>92845811
>Kenobi
It would be about him fighting going mad, seeing his master and it being hinted that he's not actually there, him having a line about how anakin was right about sand, watching over luke, and finally accepting his fate.

we should get a movie set years before TPM, just jedi going mission to mission.
settling disputes, rescuing ransom victims from pirates without a single death occurring, anceint jedi passage rituals.
just a general movie, with little fear of effecting the time line.
it would be even better if the main charters were completely unknown before now.
the jedi masters would have as much screen time as the teachers in harry potter.

Jumping from atmosphere doesn't mean gravity doesn't affect it at all. After all, gravity doesn't just dissppear at some distance, it just gets weaker the further you are from the object. Now the threshold where it affects hyperjumps is just higher. You can jump from a planet's atmosphere (although it's still too risky, and rarely done), but something with a bigger mass in such proximity, like a star maybe, would still cause trouble.
Speak like an idiot why Yoda does? Learn the correct order of words in Basic could he not? Literally centuries to do that he had.

Still, there had to be a winner of the Clone Wars, and perhaps as much as Lucas didn't intend it to be so, only a separatist victory could have prevented the Empire
The CIS would have steam rolled the Galactic Republic if Palpatine hadn't started production of the Grand Army of the Republic as well, the separatists could have been left alone and building up their arsenal until they had the strength to crush the Republic and the jedi, but apparently that wasn't Palpatine's plans
Instead Palpatine knew that the only way to ensure the creation of the Galactic Empire was to abuse the corrupt centralized government, and during the war he continually kept increasing the power of Coruscant and the Republic army, until it was strong enough to just rename itself the Galactic Empire and no one would notice, as the third prequel movie rolls around the Galactic Empire already exists in every way but name
The Confederacy is too much of a hodge podge force to ever form a galactic government, it's a mixture of bankers, warlords, freedom fighters, anarchists, backwater planets, traders, and other malcontents, basically anyone with a grudge against the Republic, but that's where their common purpose ends, once the Galactic Republic falls they'll all go their separate ways
>>92852412
The war could also be seen as a way to flush out all these malcontents and kill them en masse. Basically, people against the central authority of Coruscant + the Jedi Order were all people Sidious wanted to get rid of. The CW was a good way to do just that.
>>92852435
It still kinda backfired in that regard though, a lot of the early Rebel Alliance consisted of whatever remained of the CIS and disillusioned senators within the Imperial senate, at least in the old EU, Rebel One was even a CIS Providence class dreadnought
I never got why Palpatine didn't just frame Mothma and Organa for being Separatist sympathizers, they had already made it clear in the final days of the Clone Wars tat they were going to be problems
Where the Clone Wars was a massive success was in placing absolute power in the hands of the Supreme Chancellor, and in making the jedi vulnerable

>>92852529
>I never got why Palpatine didn't just frame Mothma and Organa for being Separatist sympathizers
Because the Senate would then be looking for more assumed sympathizers within its own walls. There'd be no unity and everyone would be out for themselves.
Plus, they were no doubt going to cause trouble, but they never showed any Separatist intentions. They were simply concerned about the state of the institution.
So the Gozanti class was used mostly in the early empire, and the Raider came later, correct?

>New canon shows that gravity doesn't actually mean shit when it comes to disrupting hyperspace travel
So far it's only been ships that have a much larger mass that have issues when it comes to jumping to hyperspace/out of it near gravity wells. Such ships shown with these issues are: ISDs, old CIS capital ships and the corvette from Rebels. Smaller ships (like the Falcon, U-Wings, etc) have a much better chance to lightspeed out of a gravity field.
Ezra never tried jumping to hyperspace with the two Interdictors around at Atollon because he was on the Corvette when it was pulled out of hyperspace. He probably assumed that would happen to every single ship, not just larger ones.

Blame the """""""""""""fans"""""""""""""
It was disgusting how Lucas was treated in the 00's.
The industry had always hated him, and he had hated the industry, but until the 00's he at least had the fans and pop culture on his side. Then it became the hot new thing to turn on him and mock him for every little thing he did, just because the PT wasn't the Star Wars that people recognized.
I remember when he revealed Ahsoka, and articles across the internet had already dismissed her as "Lucas's wackiest idea yet!", "worst than Jar Jar!" and that "Star Wars is truly ruined!".
By the time the fanbase had come to love Ahsoka, Lucas was already selling his baby to Kathleen...

Frankly, at that time the idea that Anakin suddenly had a padawan that we'd never heard of before seemed ridiculous, especially with all the numerous (now non-canon) books/comics/GenndyWars that left little space in the timeline for that.

Is the victory and vicrory-II class still Canon?
Seems most of the ships that support ISDs, and really all of the Rebel ships outside the large MonCal vessels, are much smaller.
The Imperial-II class ISD is 1600m and the Raider-class AA Corvette is less than a tenth of that.
>>92858469
Funny how that works since Ahsoka was a working idea even before and during production of Revenge of the Sith.
Kind of gives you a new perspective on how things work from a certain point of view. Being on the outside we can't really be privy to everything.

Makes me wonder what kind of stuff is being concocted at Lucasfilm right now that completely changes our understanding of things.
Pablo and Filoni have talked about how everyone there is generally 2-4 years ahead of the public, so just think of all the twists and reveals and ideas that are secrets to us right now. Chances are, if we knew about it all, we would reject it as "not fitting" into Star Wars, like Ahsoka in 2008. Sometimes it's best to give things a chance, and some time.

Filoni and Lucas talked about it a bit at Celebration panels. Dig around Filoni's panels the past couple years if you're interested. It's hard to remember specific ones because I've seen them all and they kind of blur together.
There's concept art of Ahsoka pre-dating Revenge of the Sith, although at the time she was called Ashla. Still an orange Togruta though.
(Ashla being the original name for the light side of the force. The little Togruta name in AOTC was called Ahsla, and Lucas/Filoni initially wanted her to be Anakin's Padawan, so they could say that she WAS in the movies. However they decided to go with a new character because Ashla was too young to be fighting in a war. The name Ashla was re-used in the Ahsoka novel as the name she uses when going undercover, and the Bendu also refers to "ashla" as the light side of the force)

Much as it may have helped some people, I can now see why mentioning Ahsoka, even as a throwaway tease of exposition wouldn't have worked in RotS. It'd have been kind of awkwardly placed no matter where it'd be, just -there- and gone, especially when the focus of the movie was on Anakin's struggle to keep Padme in his life. It wouldn't have had the kind of dismissive weight of "that Bounty Hunter on Ord Mantell" or "my little maneuver at the Battle of Tanaab" which would have gone on to be elaborated upon in a short story or one shot comic. It'd have implied a much larger bit of history to be clarified later, taking us out of the main story.
So contraversial as it may have been to start, it really was better to bring her in with a new show later down the line. But to know she indeed existed just as the Prequels were about to draw down is neat.
>>92859962
Indeed.
They could have had a throwaway line about Ahsoka, but audiences wouldn't understand it for another three years.
Also would have heavily restricted possibilities. Filoni said that Lucas originally intended for Ahsoka to die. So imagine if Lucas DID decide to reference Anakin's padawan in ROTS. It would have been a reference to a much younger girl named Ashla who literally died under Anakin's watch. TCW would have ended up being very different, that's for sure.

did she say that later? because I only remember Anakin saying "blah blah blah....aggressive negotiations..." then Padme going "Aggressive negotiations? What do you mean?" and Anakin sheepishly replies "Negotiations with a lightsaber", and that was on Naboo I think

>>92867884The only good part about AOTC was the battle of Geonosis. Everything else is a snooze fest.I will however concede that it was interesting in showing the fans how arrogant the Jedi were when Jo casta told obi-wan that if a planet isn't in their database then it doesn't exist but then showed that the Younglins could explain why that would be

Anon was deflecting criticism because it's a common complaint to be hypocritical about cherrypicking bad effects when it comes to the PT.
That's it really.

I don't think AOTC was bad though. On the lesser end of the movies I guess, but it still had some of the franchises's highlights.

It doesn't need to tell normies that the Prequel Era is over. That was raison d'etre of of TFA. To restore the Star Wars brand.
Rian has said that he has unexpected freedom. So we're free to have actually creative and risky movies again. Hopefully.
Rian is a pretty messy writer, but at least he has passion

>>92869474
JJ didn't make the mess of TFA
I mean he literally did, but he's not wholly responsible
TFA was made on mandate by Disney. The mandate was "Make Star Wars hip again" and that meant being lowest common denominator as fuck and blatantly saying "We're a sequel to the OT, we have nothing to do with the PT".
Because normie Americans did not like the PT, or at least grew not to like the PT as they aged
>>92869351
JJ isn't directing
And Lucasfilm is fully in charge, and Rian worked closer with the story group to meet George's vision, and even has a bromance with Pablo
Also the stuff they showed of the space casino aliens is 100000000000000% better than JJ's mos eisley rip-off
>>92869617
To be honest, I was baiting, partially

>George's vision
Fuck off
There is ZERO consideration to what George wanted in modern Star Wars
The fact that Rebels was designed around concept art that George rejected says everything
Besides, George is not a genius, despite what /swco/ wants to believe. He's a grown up teenager who loved watching movies and reading pulp sci-fi. When he had "boring" responsible adults to guide him, he made great things
When he was free to do whatever he wanted, he got the plotless Prequels

The Gozanti is still used in the GCW-era, it's used for transporting AT-ATs, like at Hoth, and as a general cargo ship. The Raider is an active warship, more militarized than other corvettes, like the CR90. One doesn't necessarily replace the other.
>>92869719
You don't know what you're talking about. The remainder of the ST is following George's vision much closer, and Filoni would never have picked designs that Lucas wouldn't have been okay with. Sometimes they even tweak concept art designs to better fit.
Lucas left Lucasfilm a treasure trove of stories and ideas. Even the fucking Aftermath trilogy is based on his ideas.

With the story group, you get Rogue One, a movie that you can tell that it is actually a part of a bigger universe.
Without it, you get The Force Awakens, a movie so detached from everything else it feels like nothing but the three OT movies ever existed in this universe before, because the director has such a hateboner for everything that isn't the three OT movies that he pettily cuts background flags that 99% of the audience wouldn't even notice anyway because "hurr durr if we focus on podracers how can I come up with anything original of my own?" even though his entire movie's plot is a carbon copy of ANH.

That has nothing to do with the director and EVERYTHING to do with marketing
I know it feels good to have one person be the focus of your hate instead of something nebulous like "market research"
But TFA was a carbon copy of ANH because that's what would not only sell the most tickets now, but also sell more tickets in the future

You can make a carbon copy of another movie without making it feel detached from the rest of the universe. Was it "market research" that told him to cut the podracer flags that didn't hurt anything? Or to stut the story group off and even change the opening crawl without notifying them?

Short answer: Yes
Long answer: Yes because he was tasked by Disney to make a new series that felt detached from the Prequels and strongly connected to the Originals.
JJ isn't a risk taker. He got a name for reviving series by taking the core of a property and renewing it
He did it to Mission Impossible and he did to Star Trek and then he did it for Star Wars
Disney knew his past. They hired him because he'd do what they wanted, which is, to recreate Star Wars as if the Prequels never happened.
I know Star Wars fans love the Prequels. I don't blame them. I'm not a hater, even if I can see their faults.
The problem is that they are divisive. Some people love them, most people hate them.
I know /swco/ will cite Pablo as saying that the Prequels have "markets" and shit. But this is a world where the Transformers movies are sustained by China's outrageous obsession with them.
Third worlders have bad taste in movies because they don't know what's good for them yet.
Whatever, I'm off topic.
What I'm saying is that TFA was designed by Disney. Both by implicitly hiring JJ and explicitly by telling him what to do.
If you want to find fault in why the TFA was so stale and repetitive, blame George for making the Prequels only appeal to fanatics.
>>92871172
It's just some fucking background props. Jane and Joe "I Didn't Like the Prequels" Average wouldn't know they are there referencing the prequels. I can understand the importance if avoiding any direct references, but this is just plain petty.
>>92871172
>He did it to Mission Impossible and he did to Star Trek
Do people think JJ directed the 4th mission impossible when he was actually directed the 3rd which was just kind of middling? I keep seeing people attaching his name to the revival of the franchise which is really odd. And his work in reviving Star Trek was gutting the thing of some of it's more ponderous sci-fi trappings and turning it into a generic action movie.
>>92871159
Ordinary human dickgirls are just too vanilla.
>>92871405

He makes middling movies
Which makes him very popular with producers because middling movies make the most money for their cost

Also incorrect. It's most "older" westerners that hate them.

Still incorrect, the hate towards the prequels are more related to generation than to geography, most of the older fans hate the prequels, most of the younger fans like them

There are very many here who do not recognize that the Prequels have serious flaws in story telling.
The view the Prequels and TCW as something that is absorbed simultaneously.
That's obviously not true.
TCW was a sort of an apology for the shoddy storytelling and character development that the mainstay Prequels had.
I stand by the fact that they're bad movies.

Like a lot of the prequels, we see just a shadow of the real Good Idea.
We never see Padme be "emotionally unhealthy".
She seems pretty normal and rightfully rejecting Anakin for being a creeper
Then she's rolling around in the hay with him with just a scene in between.
If we saw a version of the Prequels that had Padme explicitly hate the Republic for its feet dragging about the TF invasion and therefore be attracted to a man who is about immediate action, it'd make sense
But we never see Padme develop as a character in TPM. We don't see her emotional state, we have to infer it
The same with AotC.
I can see what George was pushing for but we never really see it develop.
