The Republic is pretty much a large and galaxy wide representation of America.

Palpatine takes a lot of cues from Bush and that era of politics. Literally a corrupting force within the government staging a war so he can form a fascist Empire. Lucas was a little early with his art though.

The Separatists are another part of America, but with the foolish notion that they've escaped the corrupting influence of the current Republic politics.

Every part of the Separatist Council is pretty much a laundry list of things liberals hate. The Trade Federation is Neimoidian based (they're pretty much colonists now, mainly western and chinese influence) who have members literally named from Republicans of the 90's, the Banking Clan represents money and scummy bankers, the Techo Union most likely represents how slimy tech providers profit off of war and it's spoils (like oil), and the rest of this council pretty much follows this path.

tl;dr Lucas is a liberal and every aspect of Star Wars is pretty much continuing this vision.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate what happened in this episode?

The climax of the episode is a literal recreation of the Mos Eisley Cantina scene, LITERALLY SET IN MOS EISLEY CANTINA, where Greedo and Lucas face off, and Lucas shoots first.

He literally made an episode where he recreates the Han/Greedo controversy, with himself as the protagonist, and he shoots first.

I think Lucas just wanted to up the stakes by making it more clear that Greedo shot too.

The final Blu Ray version has them shooting basically at the same time, too.

Some people suggest that he was trying to make Han more sympathetic by dispelling the idea that Han would shoot unless it was self defense. But Lucas himself maintains that Greedo always shot, it just wasn't clear enough in the original version. (To be fair, that holds up, they're just an explosion and a puff of smoke in the original)

That didn't stop him using digital effects for the rest of the film. Either way, the shot when they arrive at Skellig Michael was pretty much entirely digital as well so that can't be the reason. A still shot would've been nice like anon said.

There was a sense that these were real, living locations that TFA was lacking. We sort of got that, though. The few aliens we saw all died. That's likely why they did it, just so that you don't go from Rogue One having all these aliens hanging around and then watch ANH and they're all mysteriously absent. So you pepper a few aliens into the cast and then kill them off.

Jumping from atmosphere doesn't mean gravity doesn't affect it at all. After all, gravity doesn't just dissppear at some distance, it just gets weaker the further you are from the object. Now the threshold where it affects hyperjumps is just higher. You can jump from a planet's atmosphere (although it's still too risky, and rarely done), but something with a bigger mass in such proximity, like a star maybe, would still cause trouble.

The Confederacy is too much of a hodge podge force to ever form a galactic government, it's a mixture of bankers, warlords, freedom fighters, anarchists, backwater planets, traders, and other malcontents, basically anyone with a grudge against the Republic, but that's where their common purpose ends, once the Galactic Republic falls they'll all go their separate ways

Because the Senate would then be looking for more assumed sympathizers within its own walls. There'd be no unity and everyone would be out for themselves.

Plus, they were no doubt going to cause trouble, but they never showed any Separatist intentions. They were simply concerned about the state of the institution.

So far it's only been ships that have a much larger mass that have issues when it comes to jumping to hyperspace/out of it near gravity wells. Such ships shown with these issues are: ISDs, old CIS capital ships and the corvette from Rebels. Smaller ships (like the Falcon, U-Wings, etc) have a much better chance to lightspeed out of a gravity field.
Ezra never tried jumping to hyperspace with the two Interdictors around at Atollon because he was on the Corvette when it was pulled out of hyperspace. He probably assumed that would happen to every single ship, not just larger ones.
