Aside from the cookie cutter high school love interest subplot and obnoxious """"""""""""""""jokes"""""""""""""""", the trailer just depicts this guy just wanting to experience other emotions. Who doesn't empathise with that right??
>>
>>92820608
Sure, if it was a generic animated film about anything else, but the fact that it's about emojis makes it horrible.
>>
I experience emotions all the time

Right now I feel... annoyance at how humid it is after all this rain
>>
>>92820608
It'll either end with accepting yourself for who you are and that you shouldn't have to change yourself to be happy or with enough motivation the seemingly impossible is possible
>>
take your 0.02 dollars and go away
>>
CANDY CRUSH
>>
Sony why not make a movie that isnt a steaming pile of shit instead of viralling your trash on a Somalian Cave Etchings forum?
>>
>>92820608
Its not about the jokes or premise. You can have David Lynch writing and directing it and it would still be a lame cash grab based on popular internet phenomenon that normies enjoy.

Its like making a meme movie about Grumpy Cat and Gangnam style dance.
>>
>>92820629
The emoji persona is clearly just a way to try and capitalise on the popularity of social media. If it was anything else this movie would probably not have been greenlit

What's with the "emo cool chick with highlights" in every kids movie nowadays?

Why does she have a body
>>
>>92820683
The Grumpy Cat movie wasn't that awful desu
>>
>>92820608
It's mostly what this movie means for media in general.
The Emoji Movie is no different than when people use memes in advertising, or protests, or in real life in face to face conversation.
They're just trying to get you to see something based off familiarity alone, and if the movie is successful, it means that many more will inevitably be made as companies look for the easy money.
These concepts are just lazy, and the sad part is that it's not going to be very different from any CGI movie that's come out in the passed few years.

Watch Trolls, and watch The Angry Birds movie, now imagine that whole movie, but instead of an angry straight man as one of the main characters, you have no straight man.

That's all it is.

everything about this movie is exploitation and it's working
it's just a gimmicky excuse to go "hey kids! watch your phone faces come to life!"
she only has a gimmicky body because they know shad would draw gimmicky porn so gimmicky losers would watch this gimmicky trite and masturbate with their gimmicky penises
>>
>>92820608
>Honestly it doesn't seem that bad
Well I'm convinced, thanks for setting me straight and I'll be sure to buy the 3D tickets and the loyalty cup
>>
>>92820883
> what's with sexually attractive female characters in movies, I don't see why anyone would do this
>>
>>92820683
The only reason we don't have a Meme Movie is because licensing all the copyrighted characters in modern meme culture would be an absolute nightmare.
>>
>>92820608
To be fair the fact that it's based on EMOJIS and can end up not being horrible but meh is a good thing. I'm surprised that they take absolute retarded and practically unworkable concepts like this and the Angry Birds and end up making something decent.
>>
>>92820939
She doesn't. She's wearing a skirt so it just looks like she has a body. If she took that off she'd look like all the other ones.
>>
>>92820608
Oscar nod then?
Don't think otherwise, Trolls got one thanks to that stupid Timberlake song
>>
>Okay guys people liked reck it ralph and inside out. How can we cash in on this?
>>
>>92820608

Don't worry, it's a cartoon. Every shitty cartoon that comes out gets a sizable defense force on /co/.

It's the autism.
>>
It's still bad because if you give them money for this you're proving to Sony that audiences want to see the most commercialized and stupid shit possible
>>
>>92820984
Unless you desperately want to fuck Aubrey Plaza's voice I don't see how you could possibly believe this
Do you know how rarely the AV Club gives F's?
It can't be more than a couple times a year at most
>>
>>92820644
No, it's going to be a cross between "you don't need to pigeonhole yourself into a niche that society sets up for you; you are free to be your own person and express yourself freely" and "the increasingly tightening grip of technology is limiting ourselves from true communication between others; if we put our phones down and talked to people face to face, the world would be a better place".

>>92820681
I'd much rather watch The Somalian Cave Etchings Movie.

This way you know that she's a girl. Otherwise, you'd never actually know from her voice alone.

>>92820683

>>92824884
The Grumpy Cat movie was pretty damn bad. But it's a Lifetime film, so it's not like that's a surprise.

>>92824448
That was just Best Original Song, and until recently that category was a lock for any animated movie with an original song.
>>
>>92825076
>"you don't need to pigeonhole yourself into a niche that society sets up for you; you are free to be your own person and express yourself freely

How original.
>>
It's going to open with the human kids from the trailer all on their phone and texting each other despite not being more than two feet away. The one kid is like "Yo, there's that girl you dig! Send her a text!" and the other kid is like "Duh, y'okay" and does so, which brings us into his phone and Emojitropolis or whatever. They set up T.J. Miller's character and explicate upon how he's not like other girls and how he wants to be more than a Meh emoji. More world-building, he meets Hi-Five Ghost, and then goes the "He's making the wrong face" scene. End Act One. Act Two begins with the kid saying his phone is broken and he sets up an appointment to have it wiped. Smiley Bitch blames TJ Mehler and probably sentences him to death, but he escapes thanks to Hi-Five. That's where the Loser Lounge scene happens, and then they leave. Jailbreak comes into the scene to help Mehler by saying "We gotta get to the cloud" because I don't know. Apparently it's also illegal to leave the phone/city, because Smiley Bitch is like "KILL THEM ALL". Hijinks ensue, including Candy Crush, Just Dance, a YouTube scene, and that firewall scene. Anyways, other shit occurs, and I guess Hi-Five literally dies. That's where the scene in the boat happens, where Slutbreak is like "I think you're cool" and the fucking digital whale happens. After that, the trailers are dry of material, but I would assume there's a happy ending, a freedom of expression, Smyla Angelou's comeuppance (likely involving Sir Patrick Shtewart), and a dance scene with an original song by Christina Aguilera.

At least, that's what you'd get if you followed the formula.

Sources: The Domestic and International trailers. Seriously, that's all it took.

It's not even bad, even looking past the fact it's based on fucking Emojis.
It's the same schlock we've seen a billion times with a billion other movies because Hollywood's fucking dead and would rather ALWAYS play it safe with Nostalgia/Familiarity Bucks rather than try to take a risk.

Like it was original when Zootopia did it.
>>
>>92820740
Maybe if they were talking animals...
>>
>>92825283
you dumb fuck, zootopia was about racism. the moral was don't judge people by how they look or racial history, as each individual is different with different morals and we should all make an effort to accept and live peacefully with each other without looking solely at race
