Somehow, this show which I thought looked like total garbage upon first viewings back in the day ended up being one of the only modern era cartoons I found to be charming and entertaining

I agree, and it's really funny too, at least to me
also it seems like around s3 creators started caring more and more because the continuity shocked me
usually in shows like these you're lucky if they remember the characterization of each character, heck I question the existence of a "continuity-bible" for cartoons like SU everyday
not this show though
if a thing is introduced you bet your ass the crew doesn't forget
Vinnie lost his tail in an episode of s1, and since then it was used everytime he got scared/hurt
And heck other stuff
sure they sometimes forget things too, like the fact that Sunil is scared of the park (if I remember correctly), but it's really minor stuff
also the character development
sunil and vinnie go from just friends to basically a bromance, vinnie accepts the fact that he's a crossdressfag (as is apparently every male pet anyway), russell gets that thing with his ghost phobia, etc.
some quality writing, and quality songs too
but no one remembers
also pic barely related but sunil is best pet
