CG Pearl couldn't have been a Diamond Pearl or done the deed herself because Rose and her Renegade Pearl were well known for several hundred years before PD was shattered.
PD's shattering happened during the rebellion, it didn't start it. That's why Jasper seemed to know and love her Diamond, and why Eyeball was witness to the assassination despite not being a PD gem.

Rose, or at least someone who looked like Rose, stabbed Pink Diamond with a sword without any attempts to stop her from her subordinates, and then Pink Diamond shattered.
My money is on Pink Diamond having done it all herself out of some altruistic idea that her shattering would help bring an end to the war, or at least do something positive.
She would be the one who could order those around her to not interfere, and she could be the one strong enough to shatter her own gem after Rose stabbed her with a sword that couldn't shatter gems.
Rose may or may not have been in on it from the start, but she certainly took credit for it after the fact.

While YD shattering PD is a neat idea, it doesn't really make any sense.
1. If YD truly shattered PD and then blamed Rose, how come Eyeball says that she saw Rose shatter PD? I guess YD could shapeshift into Rose Quartz and Eyeball would believe because she's really dumb.
2. If YD blamed Rose on the shattering, then why did the crystal gems tell Steven that Rose shattered PD when she didn't? Assuming that the CGs only told Steven because Rose told them, than why did Rose tell them that she shattered PD when she knows she didn't? Or, if Rose didn't tell them at all, and she didn't even know that YD blamed her for the shattering, then why did Pearl and Garnet act like they already knew at the end of Back to the Moon?

Rose has never shown any signs of having dream powers like Steven. The gems didn't mention anything like that when Steven first demonstrated them despite telling him exactly how Rose had shit like floating, shields, and healing before or the moment of unlocking them.

Steven's dream shit is much more likely to be a part of his hybrid biology, like his resistance to destabilization. It's because he has an organic mind that is projecting into other minds/gems.
