Is Tracing art such a huge crime?
Under which conditions?
>>92795457
Why did you do that to her ass?
>>92795457
too bad some pro artists trace without notice.
>>92795457
Depends if you're selling it and/or pretending you aren't tracing.
>>92795540
say that you sell it, but edit it heavely.
because you use pictures as references.
Wouldnt it be as bad copying the drawing by eye, and then edit it as well?
Which one is the original and which is the fake one
>>92795972
>>92795972
Considering Frazetta did his in '67, I'd say he is the original.
That aside, based on skill alone I'd say he would be the original. As Frazetta influenced many, many, many artists.
>>92795972
>'67
>>92796003
>'79
Gee, I wonder which one could be the original.
>>92796233
would be even a Crime if it happend to be the other way around?
Like you have an average drawing and as a tracer, you add so many stuff that make it really good.
>>92796339
it could be a lie date to pretend being the orignal artist.
you can never know
>>92796377
>>92795533
It worked for Wally because Wally is litterally the best there ever was.
>>92795457
Referencing a piece is fine, most great artists do that. The only problem is if you copy a piece to the point of it being the exact same style/pose as the original.
>>92796616
Adding to that, it's also okay to 'trace' if your work is more of a reference/homage/parody of the original piece
Artists trace 3D models these days.
>>92795457
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/tracing/tracing2.htm
I'd be ok with it for a single panel or page if it was a reference and it was a huge deviation from the style of the rest of the book
>>92795457
I trace when I don't give a fuck and am making a joke image
>>92795457
Is it wrong if I am a fetish artist and trace all the time?
Would YOU mind if an artist traced to draw YOUR fetish if it looked better or were produced faster than otherwise?
All that matters is the final product.
The issue with tracing is usually that the final product is shit. Or more to the point is when it's shit it's very apparent.
Nobody is aware of people who trace and put out good shit because it's good.
Everyone just thinks of fuckers like Greg Land and Larroca.
Other than that the only problem with tracing is when you steal others art.
>>92795713
As long as you're upfront that this is how you do things and give proper credit to the original images you traced, I don't have issues with it.
>>92795457
I'd say it is generally fine to draw poses.
Not so much likenesses.
>>92796755
I do this, but I create my own poses, camera shots, enviroments, I ad lots of detail to the finished picture and stuff
>>92800051
I also make smut mostly, not like Im real artiste or anything
While watching the DC animated movies I've noticed the animators use the same references.
This room also shows up in a 3rd DC film but I don't remember which.
>>92800341
Probably 3d assets, preferable to 3d renders integrated onto the movie itself desu
>>92800341
>>92800419
It's the same assets. One of the reasons behind the move to a unified style is so that they can save money by doing things like that. They also shared with Young Justice and the Scooby-Doo DTV films.
Norman Rockwell always takes his own photos and used them as reference for his illustrations. In some circumstance he would pull out a projector and trace the poses on paper. I think there's nothing to be ashamed of by tracing as long as your not copying anybody's work. Also, shouldn't this be on /ic/?
>>92800419
I always thought that room looked familiar.
I swear it's in another dc animated movie too
>>92801281
>Also, shouldn't this be on /ic/?
It's common among hacky comicbook artists to trace existing published works shamelessly. But the big problem with tracing for this medium is that it leads to characters with inconsistent proportions from panel to panel as the pose must change, but different models are used for tracing.
Besides, there will be more comicbook aficionados here than over in /ic/, and they'll be likely to notice and point out those kinds of inconsistencies from experience. So maybe it's more relevant to sequential art, hence this board, than the usual fare of /ic/? I dunno. Could be in either place.
People get mad that ilya kuvshinov aka KR0NPR1NZ blatantly redraws other artist's work and then sells prints and shit.
Makes 3K a week from patreon.
I get mad at anyone who sells fanart regardless if they traced.
Great wallpapers though.
>>92795533
Wood's style was really unique though, even if he traced he knew how to make the drawings his own.
>>92795457
depends. it's okay to trace if you acknowledge the original artist, are doing a parody, or if you're doing something really different like OP
Henry Darger was an amazing outsider artist who traced pictures of kids from ads and stuff and did extremely original work with them
>>92801984
That Hermione is kawaii as shit
>>92801984
>I get mad at anyone who sells fanart regardless if they traced.
Why? Usually they're being comissioned for it and the money is for the labor.
>>92799320
people don't generally care as much when they think with their dick
>>92801984
pretty blatant tracing there but the artist is pretty good at coloring/shading
>>92795501
diapers are nice
>>92799320
what if tracing is my fetish?
>>92801984
I'm sure it has value to some people, but it's unambiguously a violation of copyright if any owners of the original wanted to pursue him.
>>92802734
copyright is mostly use for BS
>>92795457
>tracing from a photo you took to use a base for your drawing
good
>tracing from a stock photo you found online to use as base for your drawing
ok
>tracing from your own previous artwork
lazy
>tracing from someone else's artwork
stop
>>92802546
I'll trace your dick then
>>92801984
its the abstriccion that take place is what make them their own work, you can see he make them less/more realistic depending of how much detail there was on them in the first place, also he draws using cubes and spheres making them feel like they could be in a 3d enviroment and correcting things that feel odd using symetry and rules of anatomy in some places.
Everyone agrees that tracing over a picture YOU took for foundation/etc is acceptable, what about using a 3D model you made yourself from scratch in the same fashion?
>>92804044
Don't see a problem with that. Disney does just that for the lionguard. They made the models of the characters, then made the 2d rigs based on the 3d models.
>>92801984
I understand doing this to make money but tracing from other works is pathetic
like as an artist its way more fun to make new/inspired shit
>>92803110
>>tracing from a stock photo you found online to use as base for your drawing
Some stock photos, specially on dA, have "rules" with "do not use for commercial purposes" or some shit like that, so is not like you can use any kind of stock images.
