So why was TCW cancelled? Why couldn't Disney continue it after the buyout?
>>
>>92790063
Disney didn't want to spend literally millions per episode as George did out of pocket. They also didn't want to move a show with 6.5 seasons to their own channels after its been branded to CN for it's whole run.
>>
>>92790035
Hard to say for sure, but likely around Season 7, about half a dozen months before RotS

>>92790063
Multiple reasons;

>TCW wasn't getting nearly enough viewers to justify the expenses, and existed only because Lucas was funding it as his own pet project
>CW is a rival channel to Disney
>Filoni said the show was truly George's, and it wouldn't feel right to finish it without him, with a big budget or not.

It was pretty much a unanimous agreement that the show would be cancelled so that Filoni could start his own one from scratch on DisneyXD.

They gave us as much as they could via story reels, comics, a book, and The Lost Missions, and then shifted their stories and ideas over to Rebels.
>>
>>92790120
God, George redeemed himself with Clone Wars and became a god among men once more
>>
What the fuck happened with KOTOR 2's ending?
>>
>>92790120
I see.

It just sucks that they didn't wrap things up as neatly as they could have been. I wish they adapted more stuff into books and comics. I know the Siege of Mandalore was mentioned in the Ahsoka novel, but I'd have really liked to see it in a comic. The story reels too.
>>

>>92790145
For any faults he may have, and however people see the Prequels, I always believe he was a god among men. He took risks, pushed the limits of what could be done in special effects every single time he made a movie, and tried his best to tell the stories he wanted to tell.

This only carried over into TCW where he pushed a larger creative team to make any wacky idea he had come to life. From droids lost in a desert with a frog admiral, to civil war on Mandalore Maul pulling the strings. He wanted his world to be as vibrant, but also meaningful, as possible.

>>92790287
Across all of the unfinished media, we actually know about 75% of all of the unfinished TCW stories, so they have been quite generous. They also may be saving stuff for comics and such still. After all, the upcoming Mace Windu comic seems like it's going to be the first of many PT Era comics centralizing on the Jedi.

Also they're definitely saving the Siege of Mandalore for something, it was the grand finale of the entire show, and they're not going to just leave it at a few winks and nods.

When the drinking money ran out, or when the bar-owner's daughter suddenly wanted to marry him. Kanan didn't leave because the Empire moved in: He'd stared down Imperials like Vidian before and lived. They knew he was something to ignore. I hate this "Disney wont let X happen" meme when there has been zero evidence.

Until someone tries to kill off a "kid" (protip: Ezra is 17, about to be 18) and Disney refuses and censors it, we can't possibly know.

Even Gareth fell for this, admitting to assuming that he couldn't kill off his entire R1 cast, only for Kathleen to say it fits the story and nobody would stop him if he wanted to do that.
>>
>>92793919
Lucas's kid, plus a youngling from TCW that was shot and killed.

Just because we haven't learned the names of ever single child that has been killed in Star Wars, doesn't mean its taboo.

Following child characters enough that they have names is rare in Star Wars anyways. The biggest two examples are Boba and Anakin who we first saw as adults.
>>
>>92793828
Not formally being a Jedi doesn't mean he wouldn't be an advantage in the field. He would still have his skills and the Force (and the Alliance would still know it). Even Ahsoka returned to lead the clones in the siege of Mandalore.
I can see Kanan's death affecting him badly and making him not want to be a Jedi, but I can't see him leaving Hera and others (a.k.a. his family) because of it, when they would need him more than ever.

Wat?
>>
>>92794007
Killing a child is not taboo, killing a child protagonist is. Nobody in their right minds, especially not Disney, would ever kill off the empathetic main character of a show for kids. It simply isn't done, and certainly not in a Hero's Journey fantasy like Star Wars. Other characters aren't subject to this rule (unless mentioned explicitly in future media e.g. Rogue One), but no matter how many edgelords have prayed for Ezra's death since Spark of Rebellion, it will never come to pass.

This is exactly what it would feel like if they go with something simple like "he stayed behind on Mandalore with Sabine".
If not dead, he should be either in a deep coma or presumed lost in the Unknown Regions or something along these lines. He can return later to help Luke with his Jedi training, but he can't be around R1/ANH and possibly Empire too.
>>
>>92794247
Tons in TCW. Some of which that had over half a dozen episodes where they themselves were the protagonist.

Star Wars is indeed a hero's journey, but it also isn't afraid of mature storytelling that acknowledges that bad stuff, VERY bad stuff, can happen to good people.

Also you need to stop treating the cartoons as exceptional from the movies. Lucas didn't want that, and that's why TCW wasn't like that. So if we include the movies we also have characters like Qui-Gone and Obi-Wan.

And lets not forget Anakin Skywalker, the main protagonist of the prequels, and what happened to him. Yes, it is a very bold thing, a huge risk, to break conventions in such a way, to NOT have your protagonist come out on top and live happily ever after in a fantasy series. But it can happen. It's not impossible, it's not unheard of, and I don't believe it's off limits.

Good people die, it's a important part of storytelling for kids, VERY important, and Lucasfilm know this.

Good people will continue to die in the movies, and the books, and the comics, and yes even the cartoons. I fully expect Kanan to die, and if they come up with a meaningful story that entails Ezra's death, Ezra would die too. It's not as controversial as you are making it out to be, especially when Ezra isn't even a child anymore. The show is wrapping up so they don't even have the future of the show at stakes. Filoni has said that he has had the Rebels ending planned from the very beginning, so whatever happens, it's been decided for about 5 years now anyways.

Do I personally think Ezra will die? No, the show is leading up to A New Hope, and "hope" is the keyword there. But if Lucasfilm wanted to tell a story of Ezra's death, it could happen.

It's different when you are making a backstory for a character whose fate you already knew.
>>

A lot of Clones.
>>
>>92794089
I can see him leaving, but not because he denounces the Jedi way or the rebel cause, but because he finds something that needs his attention. Maybe he leaves to find training in something else, or maybe he decides to stick with Sabine and the Mandalorians and help them. Maybe even some kind of long-term mission that would require him to be out of contact, maybe deep-cover intelligence gathering.

Whatever the case, I don't think he'll be killed off and I don't think he'll truly part with the Ghost crew or the rebellion, at least not in a permanent or contentious way.
>>
>>92794503
Yes, I honestly believe so.

Killing off a child or protagonist isn't really something writers usually WANT to do, but if, IF Lucasfilm had such a story to tell, I think they would be allowed.

Disney has had some such mature stuff in its past, and Star Wars has such stuff in its history. Disney has let Lucasfilm had immense freedom in the past 4 years, with TFA being the only exception.

>>92794584
Fives is a huge one. He was the biggest character outside of the movie characters/Rex/Ahsoka, and was the main protagonist for about half a dozen episodes, only to end up being shot at the end of his spotlight arc.

Slightly less obvious is Satine. She was the protagonist in 2-3 of her own episodes, and was a huge "role model" character for girls, and a voice of reason for pacifism. Then she was executed and her people lost to a civil war. Pretty heavy stuff.

Good people die, even characters who are the protagonists of their stories, and this is an important part of storytelling for children that Lucasfilm isn't going to abandon.
>>
>>92794486
>Tons in TCW. Some of which that had over half a dozen episodes where they themselves were the protagonist.
A protagonist of an episode is not the same as the protagonist of an entire series.

>Star Wars is indeed a hero's journey, but it also isn't afraid of mature storytelling that acknowledges that bad stuff, VERY bad stuff, can happen to good people.

>If
Key word. IF they planned on doing so, which they don't because it's not narratively or tonally congruent nor are they cringeworthy EU edgelords (and I'm talking about authors here, not the even more odious fans like YOU KNOW WHO) who believe it's necessary to be "mature". I'm just reading the writing on the wall and what I'm seeing is lots of improbable to the point of impossible chances of death for characters, and ZERO guarantees of death for anybody, with the possible exception of Pryce.

Yeah, the whole show has been about how the crew is a family and how their bonds have kept them together. Ezra may leave to go do something else but it'll be with the expectation that when he comes back, his family will be there to welcome him.
>>
>>92794300
>wait that's not supposed to happen
Ahsoka's expression in this frame just seems so funny to me for some reason.
>>
>>92794698
>A protagonist of an episode is not the same as the protagonist of an entire series.
Neither Rebels nor TCW have a single protagonist though. It always depends on the specific story and arc being told.
>>
>>92794698
>with the possible exception of Pryce
Why her suddenly?
I think if anyone's going to die on the show, it would first of all be Kanan. I don't want him to die, but I expect him to. He seems to be in that Qui Gon/Obi-Wan role.
>>
>>92794808
She was initially going to be introduced to die in one single episode, but her death was switched out with Tua. Thanks Filoni ;-;

Since then Pryce has been getting increasing amount of focus, including a huge role on Timophy Zahn's Thrawn Novel.

We know the Rebellion is planning to free Lothal, and she is the Governess, so people suspect she is being built up to be the "final boss" of Rebels.
>>
>>92794808
>He seems to be in that Qui Gon/Obi-Wan role.
He's also been getting a lot more death flags as the series has progressed. Zero Hour telegraphed it pretty hard.
>>
>>92794668
Yeah, but Obi-Wan both has left "to find training in something else" and is on a "long-term mission that would require him to be out of contact". Pulling him out before Ezra implies the Rebellion either thinks Ezra is dead or couldn't contact him in a long while.
>>
>>92794808
Kanan is the next "most likely" to die, out of the heroes at least, though I would not personally make such a wager. I only say Pryce because she's the only designated villain that the Rebels have a chance at scoring any form of victory against, and will either be killed in an attack by them or executed for some failure or other. I say her as opposed to Thrawn because the Thrawn novel has laid out a lot of backstory and characterization that suggests a much greater destiny is in store for him than being introduced and dying in the span of two seasons of a single show. Pryce meanwhile was very successfully written as an excellent multidimensional villain and instrumental in the Imperial occupation (and rape) of Lothal and the construction of the Death Star.
>>
>>92794935
>Pryce meanwhile was very successfully written as an excellent multidimensional villain
I'm surprised at how much I liked the Pryce parts of the book.

People seemed hesitant at first, that the first major Thrawn book shares a spotlight with a random Imperial from Rebels.

But Pryce ended up developing to be such a nasty bitch that I couldn't help but enjoy it. If she is the major villain of S4, I'll be happy.

So she was initially going to be one to defect to the Rebels and flee? I'm glad her character turned out to be the opposite.

>>92794935
>and the construction of the Death Star
Wait, what Pryce has to do with it?
>>
>>92794907
The difference here is that Bail and Obi-Wan (and I guess Mon Mothma) knew that there'd eventually be a time when he'd be contacted and Obi-Wan would come out of hiding to aid the rebellion, and bring Luke with him. There was an agreement that Obi-Wan and Yoda would disappear until the time is right. That may not be the case with Ezra.
>>
>>92795026
Exactly. It perfectly shows the evil of the Empire in the most mundane aspects of life - the political corruption and cronyism actually exceeds that of the Republic and is a grueling infernal machine that transforms the normal person that was once Arihnda into the evil conniving power-grabbing political warlord known as Governor Pryce. It's very rare you get that kind of well-written villainy anywhere, let alone applied to a woman.
>>
>>92795076
>Wait, what Pryce has to do with it?
She's responsible for selling Lothal to the Empire, giving the Empire more doonium to build the DS with.
>>
>>92795076
>So she was initially going to be one to defect to the Rebels and flee?
Apparently so, yes.

Filoni decided Tua (an established character) would have a more impactful death, and that Pryce could be developed to be an entirely new villain.

>Wait, what Pryce has to do with it?
Her family own the mines. The entire reason Pryce works her way up the ranks of the Empire is on a revenge mission to gain back control of Lothal and her families mines after they were lost to the Empire. As she works her way up the ranks, she breaks away every bit of humanity she had, even selling out her only friends for a promotion.
>>
>>92795092
Oh, that makes much more sense. Ezra is a great asset, but when shit began getting real (they learned that civil war is unavoidable), Bail probably felt it was time to bring a "bigger gun" out.
>>
>>92795076
>>92795146

>>
>>92795161
revenge mission to gain back lothal doesn't cover it, there is NOBODY that wrongs her in even the slightest fashion she does not fuck over royally, the only people to escape her wrath (and in fact receive boons) are
1. her parents, who she nukes 30000 people to save
2. Tarkin, who she helps achieve ever loftier degrees of power
3. Thrawn and Eli who are mutually useful to her career advancement and as such she latches onto them like a tick

I think it would be fitting to kill her off. She's ultimately tied to Lothal, as is the crew of the Ghost. A Rebel victory on Lothal must necessitate her death one way or the other, she will never relinquish her hard-fought gains. It's a perfect final boss scenario.

>>92795400
This. I like her, but I don't think there's any decent ways to finish Rebels' story without killing either her or Thrawn, and Thrawn is the biggest red herring there ever was. Besides. no villainess waifu, no matter how semonic a demon, can escape the wrath of Filoni

I'm excited about TLJ strictly because it looks as though they are doing something unexpected with the story.

>Legends
What's the point? Canon stuff doesn't (and wont) get any kind of adaption because Lucasfilm believes certain stories work best for different kinds of mediums, so why bother adapt Legends stuff that is being cherrypicked for Canon anyways? You'd be spending an obscene amount of money to retell stories that the core fans already know (and often dislike), and it would even be adding to the ongoing canon that Lucasfilm is investing a lot of time into creating. 1/10

>Delectus
10/10 idea, but the idea of bouncing around characters, locations and eras is basically NEVER EVER tier due to expenses.

>Feast of nothing
7/10, seems like a neat idea. I think it's plausible enough that it could work too. Lucasfilm isn't going to want to do Rebels 2.0 when they tackle live action tv, so a sympathetic Imperial story sounds like something they'd be ok with trying. Especially with Inferno Squadron and BF2 in the spotlights this year.

Delectus and especially Legends are the types of shows that would only be interesting to diehard fans and will fail to attract a casual viewer. A show needs to have a general narrative, not jump around eras and timelines. This will never happen, not even with Lucas sponsoring it out of his own pocket like TCW.

The last one sounds interesting though.

Dave's put what works better for the character and setting over what he would like to happen in the past. Would he like to have Rex be part of the ground team on Endor? Yes. Will he do it? Not likely because it wouldn't work very well considering the settings and characters.

It doesn't need to happen in Rebels specifically. He has another show coming soon, and I suspect it will be about Galactic Civil War, using ideas that were getting too big for Rebels, a show that originally focused on just a small crew as opposed to the whole war like TCW.

Or just any other author of any other book/comic may put it there, hell, maybe even just in an encyclopedia.

its right after the y-wings first appear then swoop in to attack the shield gate defenses, a green turbolaser bolt connects directly with a y-wing near the upper right hand area of the frame and blows an engine off (I believe the port nacelle) and it spins out a bit but then regains control and fucks off after tanking it, and then I think just a few frames after it another one on the other side of the screen takes one and blows completely to pieces, but after that I don't think any TIEs or ISD cannons got one

About Verlaine, it would have been great if she made a confirmed cameo in R1.

I'd love to see the cut footage for scarif. As of now we have Blue, Red, and Gold squadrons on-screen, and Green squadron officially there but unseen "I havmt confirmed a snubfighter in Green livery as of yet)

We know that Gary Witta and Alan Tudyk were to make pilot cameos, the former claimed to have portrayed " Gray Leader" and supposedly Tydyk was to nplay another rebel. Was he supposedntpo be Green Leader? Did Edwards cut Grey and Green leaders when he fpoundnthe footage of Dreis and Vander?

Having five squadrons at Scarif really would have seemingly been everything Raddus had to bring.

I wonder if Phoenix squadron was running interference somewhere at the time? Or if they where blended with a few other smaller outfits to form an ad-hoc squadron (Green? Grey?)

The rebels recon for a later episode included that question. It was pointed out that since neither Wolf nor Gregor were playing with full deck, leaving them there was a better choice than bringing them into the rebellion. The same Recon talked about their new. upgraded, land yacht, which most have take to mean that they cannibalized the AT-ATs to make a new one.

All the Mon Cal ships, canon and eu, were basically modeled after aquatic animals, but in fact it is the Home One and Liberty types that are cetacean; the Profundity is shaped more like a shark.
From Legends, the MC30 is shaped like a remora, and the Mon Remonda was shaped like a ray.
And all this is ignoring the Separatist ships which in the EU were Quarren/Moncal but I don't believe that carried over to the new canon.

It would be neat to see additional Mon Cal designs shaped like other sea creatures - vertically oriented Mola Mola sunfish cruisers; enormous, rotund, gaping-mouth hangars on basking shark dreadnoughts, etc.

Reminder that the Prophecy of the Chosen One is bullshit.

How do I know? Because nobody knows exactly what it says, even after all these years. Lucas has never revealed its exact wording. Pablo doesn't know. It's not in any of the official movie guides. Moreover, WHAT it says seems to change between TPM and ROTS. In TPM, the Chosen one is merely the one who "will bring balance to the Force." However, by ROTS, Obi-Wan at least seems to think it also says that the Chosen One will destroy the Sith, which is an expansion of the original idea.

So what does it say? Where is it? It's nowhere. It's not part of the original saga-story of Star Wars. Lucas pulled it out of his ass in the middle of filming The Phantom Menace.

The prophecy concept dates back to the original ANH though, it was always mulling around in George's mind.

Anyways, its a canon fact that the prophecy is real. Lucas says so, it's spoken about in-universe as a factual thing, even Qui-Gon's ghost still talks about it.

It's still very much being treated as canon that Vader's redemption is the prophecy being fulfilled, and likely part of why he can be a ghost.
>>
>>92805398

Fairly similar, though Maul would've been in the Dooku role. I imagine he wouldn't make a good public leader, though, but he'd probably have some politician acting as his front (sort of like how he had Almec on Mandalore). Maul would still be in charge of the CIS stuff with this puppet leader as the face of the movement, instead of fulfilling both roles the way Dooku did.
>>
>>92812936
I think Sheev would still have manipulated Dooku to do his bidding though, as you say, he's a far better face. Maul would be the one in the shadows keeping everything on track.

I don't visit this thread often but I figured here was a good place to say this as it's a SW focused thread.

I just watched the 7 saga films in a row after not having seen any of them (besides 7) in years.

How can people be so wrong about these movies?
I enjoyed the first 6 equally and immensely.
1, 2, 3 and 4 all feel like the exact same person made them. I don't see the change or loss of touch.
They are all excellent and ambitious films with contrived scripting that nonetheless that drew me into the world.

5 and 6 each feel somewhat different to Lucas' films, with 5 having an almost Ridley Scott-ish feel, and 6 feeling like a George Lucas film if Lucas was a bit more... restrained? I don't know, it feels almost like a Lucas film, but subtly different. (I know it's due to Lucas only sort of directing it with Marquand as the main man, but it still feels almost like Lucas directed it, with the slight difference probably being Marquand's more drama driven style.)

But episode 7. Oh my. Watching it after watching the other six in order, just... yikes.

I don't see what this movie has for any camp of SW fans.
It is pretty much the exact opposite of the PT, without capturing the feel of OT.
Seriously, SW7 does not feel ANYTHING like the OT. Not even close.
For example, ESB and TFA feel universes apart in every way from style to quality of all aspects of movie making.

I'm not sure what i'm more baffled by, the at large dislike of the PT compared to the OT and especially ANH (which is very very similar to the PT in every quantifiable way), or the seeming acceptance of TFA by anyone with more than a passing interest in Star Wars.

Even for people that think the PT is a crime against humanity and worship the alter of everyone who made the OT except George Lucas- TFA just has none of what made the OT special.
At all.
>>
>>92813046
Maybe, though I think he'd be wary of putting the two of them together since they may decide to team up against him. Hell, he may even come to the conclusion that he doesn't need Maul since Dooku's a better fit for the job. By that point both of them would have become seat-fillers to him anyway since he would have met Anakin and decided that's who he really wanted as his apprentice.
>>

I like all the Star Wars movies, and I'm sticking to it.

>By that point both of them would have become seat-fillers to him anyway since he would have met Anakin and decided that's who he really wanted as his apprentice.
That adds another layer of tragedy to Maul. Even if he hadn't been defeated and shamed at Naboo and got to carry on as the Sith apprentice, Sheev would decide that Maul would eventually be sacrificed in favor of Anakin once his usefulness was over.

So Maul was kind of fucked no matter what.
>>
>>92813207
VII felt like a clone of the other films almost as if a fanfic author adapted the plot of the other films into the one.

It didn't feel like Star Wars because to me it would look good in standalone but it adds nothing new. RO at least had a different plot which is good. The important part of a franchise isn't that everything must feel the same as the previous one but there are brand new ideas constantly being created.

i'd really like a no dominating power universe, with the republic and order rebuilding and racing to gain/regain planets that have separated themselves from the war.
>>
>>92815850
As far as we know, that should be happening in TLJ already. We have the NR remnants moving into the Resistance, the FO's invasion and the neutral Canto Bight, for example.

After IX, I expect a power vacuum too, though. Just with no clear opponents in some sort of a galactic Cold War between superpowers. Half the systems in the galaxy were already sick of the centralized government after the Clone Wars and the Empire and after the middling NR crumbled and the FO tries to pull their "Make the Empire Great Again!" shit on everyone, I think people will avoid trying to rebuild the Republic once more.

The CIS won the long game, deal with it.

I we'll get an even looser version of the galaxy we already have post-Jakku. A reformed Nu-Empire in the Core, some sort of small New Republic successor state and a lot of independent parties. There will be an United Nations equivalent, assembled to keep order in the galaxy and promote a peaceful partnership between the different governments that most states will join, but mostly everyone will be out on their own. The reformed Jedi will swear loyalty to no state, also acting as an independent force.

That layout is probably the best for continued storytelling. More galactic-scale wars are out of question and you can use a wide variety of both new and old factions instead of just rehasing the Republic and the Empire again.
>>
>>92793573
>With the blast shield down I can't even see, how am I supposed to fight?
>>
>>92816502

Which is just worse and proves why this entire direction is fucking awful.

Before you could say 6 was it, the end. It may take several years to get there but the big bad sith lords were gone and the galaxy could breathe easy once the mess is taken care of. Legacy undoing that by having literal dozens of sith show up in issue one without explanation was one of the main reasons it was a garbage comic not worth the printed paper. Now you have the requirement that every hero's gains be rendered useless so the next franchise lead can take over. It's not enough that Luke be some farm kid, he has to take over from Jyn who takes over from Ezra and they all die ultimately meaningless deaths because the peace they fight for never actually exists.

There's no fucking point to beating Kylo Ren. About an hour later some asshole with four blades on his saber will show up anyway.

I would not be surprised if this actually happened
>>
>>92813449
Maul was going to be dumped in favor of Dooku anyway.
>>
>>92816962

It'll happen and someone will try to justify it.

And then after him will be five blades.

This shit won't last forever. Eventually they WILL grind Star Wars into the ground, by just having the movies become even more stale and mediocre. You'll see a trailer for something and nobody will care. It'll be in theaters and you won't be bothered to see it.

And that's how Star Wars will be remembered. As a series with a cool original trilogy, a prequel set that you can argue over, and a neverending string of sequels until the public stopped caring and Disney just pulled all support. At BEST maybe someone will buy it off them like 10 years after that and do a remake of the OT and boy will we have a can of worms then.

Oh, so it'll be a serial. Can you imagine that? A serialized Star Wars narrative! Preposterous.

Somehow I've forgotten what Star Wars was originally based on or what the fabled "Expanded Universe" really was doing for several decades. Or what plans George Lucas had for the universe. No, Star Wars just popped into existence as a cohesive, self-contained trilogy of movies that was never meant to be expanded upon.
>>
>>92817926

Well the main thing for Luke and the Rebellion immediately is ending the war. One version took too long, one too short. Ending it after like five years would be enough to be satisfactory while telling stories.

Then comes rebuilding the Jedi. Luke by that point has 8 years under his belt and throw on two for artifact gathering to make it an even decade. Have him face off against pirate gangs with the NR to get old Jedi artifacts.

Five years is another good period for just training and rebuilding. The NR is building new stuff finally and the galaxy has progressed. The first new generation of Jedi Knight is about done and one of them can try to build their own force after falling to the dark side.

By this point any kids born after Endor will be coming of age. You can do a passing the torch story pretty easy here.

Then you retire Luke to be a Yoda type grandmaster advising new heroes on general missions. The galaxy is a big place.

Fucking THIS.

I've never agreed with people who bash the prequels on one hand, yet place the originals on a pedestal at the time. To me, you can clearly see the same hands throughout all six films; the cinematography, the costumes, the dialogue and the special effects. If you pick one film, a lot of the flaws and virtues will be replicated in the others. However, all six are bursting with imagination in a very familiar way...

...And then you get to Episode 7. Someone else made an excellent point that the film is very not-Star Wars on a technical level, despite having a very stereotypical Star Wars dressing. For example, Lucas liked to use establishing shots to set up a new environment but JJ jumped straight into new areas at a fast pace to keep action going.

However, the worst crime to me, is that Episode 7 lacks creativity. In each of Lucas' films he was constantly coming up with crazy ideas. Even in 2, which is widely considered the worst of the worst, you have Geonosis, Kamino, Coruscant's streets, Super Battle Droids, Dooku... They may be hit or miss but at least they're fresh.

7 though. I think the most creative it got was with Kylo, Finn and glimpses of the New Republic. Apart from that, you simply have recycled ideas. Disappointing, especially when Rogue One seemed more imaginative for a story set a day before A New Hope.
>>
>>92818206
What if it that is the beginning to building something better? Dead trees must be cut away before new growth can occur, and strategically Starkiller is infinitely preferable to a conventional war
>>92818108
The First Order (at least based on what they've told us rather than shown us, but that's its own bag of issues) is everything Thrawn wanted the Empire to be; more efficient, focused on better soldiers and weapons rather than on just throwing fighters against the enemy, and less prone to the Empire's pointless maliciousness
Frankly the glaring flaw in the First Order IS Kylo and Snoke, and honestly I think the FO will be much better off as an enemy force once Snoke is dead and Kylo ends up leaving on his own path
>>
>>92818946
We get it, JJ isn't a very good director and was a horrible choice to launch the sequel trilogy and Star Wars' return to the cinema in general
Rian seems to be correcting a lot of those errors, although I'm on the fence about Trevorrow.
>>
>>92805398

Funny thing is, no-one in the new order seems to have any access to it (what with Palpy erasing it from a tonne of sources, Anakin not caring for it particularly even as Vader, and the rest of the order dying), so who would know it anymore?
>>
>>92818946
Honestly. Lucas was a creative genius who had trouble putting all of his ideas in a coherent form. He really is more of a producer than director.

>>
>>92819295
She was leading a nation that had been committed to pacifism for close to a millennia, which is part of a greater galactic society that has been (more or less) at peace for at least that long. Mandalore doesn't need a defensive army when it can rely on the status quo
That and Mandalore's history would mean that even a token defensive force runs the risk of not staying that way for long
>>
>>92818946
The question it always comes down to is whether the general public would be receptive to another barrage of Lucas' crazy ideas after fifteen years of everyone shitting all over him.

For what is worth, the Snyder comparisons memesters at /tv/ came up ironically with aren't that misplaced. They obviously are two very different directors, but one thing they share in common - a dedicated fan audience, but problematic relationship with the mainstream.

Lucas' VII would make shitton of money. Just like Justice League will make money. Lucas' VII would be embraced by the SW community, just like JL will be embraced by Snyderfags. But what about Joe Notimportant who just goes to see SW because of lightsabers and will go see JL because of Batman? Those are the people LFL really cares about. Not us.
>>
Why did The Force Awakens feel so detached from the rest of the Star Wars universe? It had major characters and elements from the OT, obviously, but only because it was a continuation of the OT, and that's just it. It's like it exists in a universe where only the events of the three original films existed before, and nothing else.

In contrast, Rogue One had Rebels references left and right, strong ties with its prequel book, little cameos likes Dr Evazan's, some of the Kyber lore, etc. You can tell that it's a part of a larger universe, that their new "all connected" canon actually fucking works. So where was the storygroup during the production of TFA?
>>
>>92819437
>So where was the storygroup during the production of TFA?
Being busy not quite existing yet, at least from the way Pablo tells it. He was apparently surprised by parts of the opening crawl of TFA, so I wouldn't be surprised if the story group was still setting up while JJ was given too much leeway to define the universe
And it feels unconnected because we're still waiting for all three movies to come out so they can then properly start setting up the sequel era, as well as expanding on the transition era between the O and ST movies
It sucks, but for right now the Star Wars sequel era universe is very much under construction
>>
>>92819437
JJ obscured the actual worldbuilding we got in the ancillary material for the sake of "lol underdog Rebels vs. evil Empire" and limited the exposition to preserve his mysteries and the quick action-packed pace of the movie. He also had a much stronger voice in the production over LFL/the Story Group.

Still, you also have to remember that it's thirty years in the future and the ST era is not mapped out. What do you think they'd reference? In the meantime RO stood at the core of the era LFL put most focus on ever since the buyout and is clearly defined from all sides.

>how do you think they're going to handle the "balance" thing without falling into the Grey Jedi trap in TLJ?
There's a few ways. The first is quite simply, a revision of the Jedi code. Having Luke and Rey decide that expressing emotions doesn't make you any less of a Jedi.

Another option is that all of this is misleading, and that Luke/Rey will see that the Jedi are right, and abandon this nonsense of thinking the Jedi are wrong.

The Guardians of the Whills mention that the balance IS safeguarded with "refined Jedi sight" or some shit, so I think the former is true.

Luke/Rey will discover that they really do need to be the last Jedi, to maintain the balance. But doing that requires embracing emotion, acknowledging the darkness within them, like Yoda realized in TCW. Not ignoring it like the Jedi of old.

That's the biggest thing, I think. The final TCW arc. That was the final piece of Star Wars media George Lucas ever officially gave us. And it was Yoda learning how to become truly one with the force, but doing what no Jedi had ever done before; Acknowledging and defeating the darkness within himself. THAT is so significant, I am surprised at how much it is overlooked. I mean, it's literally showing the first time a character ever learned what it meant to become a ghost and gain eternal life in the force. That alone proves the Jedi are right. They just need to learn what Yoda learned.

And that's what I think Luke/Rey will discover in TLJ.

What upcoming piece of Star Wars media are you currently looking forward to the most?

In Legends she was. She was basically Ventress 2.0. (Or 1.0?)

That was a bit silly though, especially since Lucas had already accepted Vos as an easter egg Jedi in TPM.

So Aurra was more appropriately kept a Bounty Hunter as originally intended in canon.

I've always wondered about the idea that the Prophecy can be reoccurring. Like it doesn't refer to a single event and then it's done, but that whenever the force is in imbalance a new chosen one is born.
>>
>>92820673
Like Zelda? To be honest, that is quite plausible. It explains this whole "force awakens" thing, but also could be used to explain any old Republic stuff when they eventually want to tackle Revan again.

>>92820570
Battlefront 2 because it looks exactly like the game I wanted back in 2015.

But TLJ looks intriguing, and im excited for all the upcoming Filoni stuff too.

That is a fair point. I've mused about something similar, that if TFA is the price that we have to pay to get the general public back on board with Star Wars again, so be it. Short term annoyance, long term gain as they bring on more innovative minds.

Rebels Season 4 > Han Solo spin-off > The Last Jedi

I'm getting the impression TLJ is doing better than TFA, but I'm still not putting my hopes very high about the sequels, just in case.

As for Battlefront II, I'm really not much of a gamer. Big games like this tend to be too expensive for me these days. Hell, I'm not even sure if my PC would handle any of the modern games. But if it has an actual storyline, unlike the first Battlefront, I might check it out.

He killed Thrawn in Legends. Looks like they're setting this up in Rebels, but some people believe that he is a red herring and that the "twist" is that Thrawn will see it coming and survive Rebels, giving him a future he didn't have in Legends.

>>92825257
He already has more of a future in Legends, because he lives longer in that timeline than if he were to die in Rebels.

>>
>>92825310
Not really.

The thing is, Thrawn going "smaller scale" and taking on Kanan/Hera rather than Luke/Leia makes more sense in Canon because of, well, the ST.

It's not that Thrawn has more future in Legends, it's just that his story got shifted earlier in the timeline to fit things better. Ultimately, he is just a hyper intelligent Grand Admiral for the heroes of the Rebellion to overcome. That stands true now as it did in Legends. He's just fighting an earlier incarnation of the Rebellion.

The only difference is that if Thrawn survives Rebels, he CAN have a future. He can cause trouble for the Rebellion MUCH longer than he ever did in Legends. He could be a part of a new story regarding the Chiss Ascendancy, or perhaps even connect to the ST.

His story started earlier in the timeline, but so far the beats are generally the same. The only difference is that it's possible that he could last much longer too.

The first walkers we saw in Rebels were earlier, weaker models, but that has nothing to do with how Kanan sliced them.

Vader slices walkers in the post-ANH comic too.

I don't really have an answer as to why Luke doesn't do this.

Best answer is that, like the filmmakers, Luke just didn't think of it. Was focused on using the explosive he had handy instead.

The Noghri only turn on Thrawn when Leia shows up with both the right bloodline and the truth about how they're being used. So having Rukh show up as an assassin means finding an entirely new story for the Noghri - Empire connection, and its fall. All during the last shortened season of Rebels. I think it's too much to bite off, with every thing else on their plate.
