It actually is a very tedious thing about the Inhumans comic. Every interesting idea is never explored or killed off. Like, NOBODY cares about Medusa and who she's fucking, yet it's treated as the most pivotal story development. And what's worse is that Medusa is STILL treated like she's the lead character of the Inhumans.

You know who should have been the lead? Crystal! She's the one who's the most empathetic, learned to work with the Avengers and FF, and in stuff like War of the Kings shown that she's a caring person. Trying to make Medusa this jack of all traits and master of no consequences just makes her tedious.

In the Inhumans run? She's actually one of the more likable new characters. But her backstory has not been told and only been hinted at. All we know is that she likes her lizard form a lot more than what she looked like before, and she dropped some specif form of Spanish at one point.

At most, All New Inhumans focuses on her, and she's been present throughout the Soule Inhumans run, but she hasn't really done anything big. She's definitely a lot more interesting than Inferno. Also, artists seem to love her cause she has a surprising amount of speechless cameo appearances.

X-Men works because there's lots of different ways you can use the Mutants concept.

What they've done with the Inhumans is like if DC decided they were gonna make the Doom Patrol into its own franchise line, and Robotman and Elasti-Girl and Negative Man all got their own books, and they started inventing tons of new Doom Patrol members, and entire events were centered around the Doom Patrol, and they made a Justice League/Doom Patrol team up book with Harley Quinn in it, and it's like, OK, the Doom Patrol are great and all, but you're ruining what's interesting about them by trying to make them into this gigantic thing and act like all the characters are great on their own when they've always worked best as part of the team.

I think they thought they could repeat the Iron Man formula. Iron Man was no household name before the movie and the only popular comic to his name was Civil War. So what does Marvel do? Back in cavemen times, the alien Kree experimented on early humans, evolving them into the Inhumans.

To begin with, they didn't have powers, but they were far more advanced than human science. They chose to protect themselves from the world by living in seclusion in their city of Attilan.

Later, they discovered the Terrigen mist, which gives them powers, and often a physical transformation as well. Teenaged Inhumans go through a 'Terrigenesis' ceremony as a rite of passage, to gain their powers, and find their role in Inhuman society.

Inhumans were nothing like mutants until 2012, when Marvel decided that despite Attilan being a closed, isolated society, there were somehow thousands of people with Inhuman DNA around the world, and when the Terrigen was released into the atmosphere, those people started gaining Inhuman powers.

Inhumans are also different to mutants because Inhuman terrorists don't keep attacking humans every week and trying to take over the world, so people have been a lot more tolerant and accepting towards Inhumans so far.

The books were about entirely different things, too. There was nothing about rights or acceptance because the Inhumans didn't want to live amongst humans.

They were about living in a rigid, structured society, where everyone's bound by ancient laws and traditions, even the royals were restricted by the Genetics Council in a lot of ways.

It was also always a lot about monarchy, about the obligations, duties and restrictions that went with being one of the royals, and the responsibility to protect their land and people.

As with Latveria and Wakanda, Attilan can't be a monarchy anymore because we're not allowed to see different systems and viewpoints in our fiction anymore.

I'm starting to like Inferno in Secret Warriors. He was the single most bland and uninteresting part of Soule's Inhumans though and was clearly just a holdover from Fraction's run that was forced on him.

Not gonna lie, I got interested with the inhumans when I saw how King Kirby had his cave boy Tuk introduce the hidden city of Attalin.

You see Kirby obsession with ancient aliens messing around with early humans.

Now that Marvel is pushing Inhumans, I bought a trade paper back collection of Lee and Kirby's run that collects inhumans appearance in the Fantastic Four and Thor. It's glorious!

It started with the X-Men, then he reused that concept and modified it to form Inhumans, then he reused that concept and modified it further to form Eternals, his perfection at Marvel.
