Thanks OP, I'll give Berserk another shot. I thought Guts was insufferable and I eventually gave up but apparently he does go through an arc of sorts eventually.

the only parts of fantasia I really like was the rickert chapters and the guts childhood flashback. the fight with Raksas was awesome. the sea god chapters were boring filler, and the elfhelm chapters have been a huge letdown so far, especially the art.

lost children is the greatest thing ever put on paper and I've read it almost everyday for years. the fight with grunbeld was also fantastic and I reread it all the time

Why are you so wrong? Black Swordsman is the worst arc, but it adds depth to the Golden Age by the contrast and knowing that eventually things fall apart for Guts and Griffith.

I think it's enough knowing that Guts isn't a total edgelord faggot and he's just pretending to be one because he thinks he needs that facade to protect himself and those around him.

I feel like skipping Black Swordsman is a rookie move. It definitely is the worst arc, and your criticisms are valid, but it's necessary because Golden Age is such an immediate contrast and makes you understand what you were seeing in the previous arc. It does a great job of making you understand someone you previously disliked, and then feel for them when it all goes to shit.

the golden age starts at the end of black swordsman. after the count is killed it jumps to griffith talking to guts. its long and early muira wasnt a very good artist or writer but it progressively gets really good. I'd recommend reading it but I'd understand if you just watched the anime and then skipped right to lost children, but he anime criminally leaves out a lot of really really good parts like pic related
