This is one of the most blatant things the show fucks up. Remember that one scene in Cheer Up Star when Marco decides to cheer her up by rolling down in a cart with firecrackers and then decides last second to back out? By that point I totally forgot he was supposed to be a "safe" kid and I don't remember any jokes relating to that aspect of him happening ever again. He even risked 16 years of his life fighting in another dimension to get scissors back. It sucks they focused on it the first episode, because it's better off being retconned.

Eh, it's nothing too major as he's still rather cautious as a character, particularly in comparison to Star who is his major character to play off of. The shift from the first episode makes more sense when you consider that he wants to be considered a bad boy, thus has those daring inclinations in his mind. Star's presence just spurs those thoughts into action, he still has a generally careful approach to most situations when pushed to think them through.

I also agree the episode's not amazing even though Mewberty is some great shit (also that is totally lore).

But if Glossaryck/Janna had to be introduced at any time I guess that was decent enough. I mean, unless they completely removed some other S1 episode that is the most screentime they got that season, so I think it's an okay balance. The Ferguson stuff was probably worse.

I feel like the second season retroactively might make the spellbook/Glossaryck stuff in that episode a bit stronger, knowing how important they become later. But I haven't watched it in a long time
