How do you feel about the recent push in comic and and other media to make Harley Quinn an anti-hero? Does it work for her character, or is she better as a straight-up villain?

She could at least pass through some redeeming arcs, instead of "oh, all the atrocities she committed were just Joker's fault, she is okay now!".

Reminder that she nuked 4 million people and we are supposed to just laugh it off.

She never really was a villain, she just hung around villains.

May have worked when she was classic Harley instead of the hot topic reject.

>>92746077
Yeah I agree with this guy. I can't really think of any murder sprees that Harley has done on her own. She's just bad by association.
>>
>>92746077
>She never really was a villain
Keep telling that to yourself.

I remember reading a comic where Harley was on the case to figure out what was up with the new ventriloquist behind Scarface and there was some villain trying to save a would-be-victim from going through the same mistakes as herself, but the thing is she never turned into a complete anti-hero or anything.
It was the same with another series where Ivy and Harley were stirring trouble, but she intentionally went to expose some cheating dude's implied cover story about being Superman to explain why he'd run off at night. She wanted the woman to see that the man she loved was a scumbag and she was imagining up an idealized version of him to delude herself. Still a villain at the end of the day just dishing out some tough love.

Things like that I enjoyed because it reminded me a lot of Batman's rogues ride the line, but trying to bleach her and them entirely of what gives them character to make them fit the mold of another character just bore me. I don't want a world of stenciled cut outs.

I actually kinda like that several of the femme fatale villains of Batman's are portrayed as morally ambiguous instead of just straight-up evil. Gotham City Sirens wasn't the best, but it wasn't really bad.

If you look at the old cartoons and comics, Harley was never really strictly a straight-up villain. She was always more of a circumstantial sidekick who just sort of went along with the Joker's gleeful malice.

She really came into her own in the Suicide Squad comic, which could only barely really be considered anti-heroes and more just straight up mercenaries.

Please tell me the SFM is good
>>
It's completely counter to her original character.

But her original character was just a simple comedic sidekick background character, I think all the attempts to flesh her out in the first place were counter to her character.

To me, I simply don't care about the original character any more than I care about, say, Harvey Bullock, and though I dislike her modern character as well a lot of people seem to love it so more power to them.

I don't even understand how she got popular in the first place so none of this bothers me.

You may want to check between your legs for the answer.

Harley works best when she:

1. Is just a high-ranking lackey to the Joker.

2. Is generally incompetent. A nuissance to the hero at best. A moment for her skills to shine shall be conceded every once in a while.

3. Cute and silly for laughs.

I guess this impedes any character development but honestly I don't fucking care. It's how she was born and how she should stay for her character to be entertaining.

>I don't even understand how she got popular in the first place

>cute girl in a skintight outfit

Gee, I wonder.
>>
>>92746128
What about the time she made all those handhelds into bombs and killed a bunch of kids that way?
>>
>>92746077
You mean she didn't give out free hand held video games armed with explosives that were triggered during the first software update all as a means to impress Joker?

Oh wait, /co/ doesn't read comics, that's right.

This is actual in-game footage tho

Not canon.
>>
>>92748941
Oh yes, the 'it was all a dream' stance. Since only "good" stories are canon at DC can we all just admit that everything of Harley from the past 10 years isn't canon?
>>
>>92747956
I guess now they can use Superman Reborn as a way to justify them never mentioning that forever evil issue ever again
>>
>>92748981

It was a stupid story to begin with.
>>
>>92745989
She only worked as the Joker's sidekick.
>>
>>92748856
Good Lord
>>
>>92749165
Why? I felt it actually fit pretty well with the character, Joker had been ignoring her so she committed a horrendous act of mass killings all throughout Gotham with a joke like theam to try and impress Joker. Waifufags hated it because it 'ruined' their idea of the perfect pure Harley. Her current comics are a shit story, as are Injustice comics.
>>
>>92749280

Just because it doesn't fit with your interpretation of Harley doesn't mean it's not what DC and the fans see in her.
>>
>>92749474
You mean how after Harley Quinn went from having a cult following of fans to exploding into popularity amongst norm is because of the first Arkham game, and DC decided to radically change how the character was being presented so that they could make her more marketable?
>>
>>92749564
Asinine. Arkham's Harley is darker than most incarnations.
>>
>>92749593
How do you figure?
>>
>>92749564

Yes because writers were just trying to one up each other in edginess when it came to Harley.
