His politics aside, I think it's because he's one of those artists that tries so hard to modernize a character based on his interpretation of them, and it doesn't always fit with how they actually are. Or he goes so far in one direction to distance them from prior depictions that they become unrecognizable and homogenized (i.e, the majority of his superheroine redesigns).


I mean, it's fine if you want to reinvent a character, but they're still supposed to be recognizable as whoever they're supposed to be.
