>>
Do I care
>>
>>92724087
Yes.
>>
she didnt even know what a fucking dear was, I doubt she had any awareness of time travel or how that shit works
>>
>>92724166
>she didnt even know what a fucking dear was
Looks like you don't either, "dear".
>>
>>92724087
Yes.

If you paid attention youd notice her whole attitude changed as soon as she opened the time portal

All we needed was a few more scenes of Ashi and Jack spending a few weeks/months enjoying time with each other in the beatiful landscape of Japan, while Ashi hides her growing weakness as it gradually gets worse
>>
>>92724087
R-r-r-r-repost.
>>
>>92724197
That would make it worse.
>>
>>92724270
Worse emotionally?

Maybe

But the quality of the episode would have been better if just a few more scenes to flesh it out.

Ashi hides her growing weakness as her and Jack spend intimate time together, with no dialouge scenes as they travel the landscape and show the general cliche signs of being in love. One of the last scenes in the sequence would be Jack proposing, and Ashi and Jack laying down in a bed (seen through veil around the bed or something) as its implied they sleep together.

Ashi's last words are : "I love you, Jack. I always will"

After that sequence would be a scene where a depressed Jack has a one on one talk with his Dad. I dont know what the dialouge would be exactly but they would embrace each other as his dad shares wise words of comfort and the whole scene would mirror the very first one in the show where the Emperor talks to kid Jack .

The credits play on screen as we see the fixed future. Seeing alien races living happily on their own planet with familiar faces, and the familiar human faces living in a much brighter futuristic civilization.

After the final credits, the Ladybug/Valley of Trees scene plays
>>
I don't think she knew for sure, but had an idea that it could happen at any moment. As soon as it became clear to her that she'd vanish she wasn't surprised, but very saddened.
>>
>>92724087
The question is, does /co/ still not realize that there was absolutley no way they were ever going to be able to live out their lives together from the start?

Ashi would not have aged while Jack would if she stayed in the past

Jack would not have aged in the future if he stayed while Ashi would have

With Aku being her literal Dad, Ashi was completley fucked from the beginning.

We as the audience were supposed to pick up on this theme but the plot was rushed and crammed into 10 episodes so it went above most of our heads.

That was the whole point of the scene where Ashi begs Jack not to kill himself. Because she realized her life was doomed from the start and Jack gave her a chance at knowing something greater

Its whats supposed to make the last scene more beatiful, He stands underneath the Tree and realizes this is truly a world Ashi would have wanted to live in. Something she never had growing up in a life of pain and abuse and misery. A life dedicated to killing him. And sure enough, she ended up saving him instead. Because he saved hers. She was doomed from birth and yet he broke through to her and showed her a whole new reality. One of love and freedom. See it as living on borrowed time if you will. But she would have given her life for his because of this. For this reality Jack sought all those years.

And that gives him peace
>>
WHY THE FUCK DID JACK WANT TO GO TO THE PAST? WHAT WAS THERE FOR HIM?
>>
>>92724964
Literally everything

Before Ashi, and before he literally gave up because there literally was no more portals, it was his sole mission and purpose

Personally, I was kind of hoping it would be less Back to the Future-style time abortion, and more Marvel-style time-travel multiverse.
>>
>>92744177
They both did incredibly profound things for the other.

Jack surrendered his quest outright when it meant he'd have to kill her, even with her sanction. She erased herself from reality to not only make sure his quest got done (which would have been as simple as just fighting Aku), but to give him what she thought was his heart's deepest desire: to see home again.

It's gotta cut insanely deep to know someone loved you like that and now they're gone.

>>92744363

>>
>>92744365
>>92744420
Maybe she thought she could tank it out indefinitely (she'd probably been doing it for a year at least by then), or didn't want to come clean with Jack. It'd be pretty hard to prevent him from blaming himself.
>>
>>92744472

Mayyyyybe
It seems like such a cruel thing to do though, to agree to get married and know that you'll quickly widow your partner and make them feel the pain of your absence that much more.

To me it'd make a lot more sense if she decided to cut ties with Jack and leave him, so that when she finally disappeared he wouldn't be aware of what actually happened.
>>
>>92744732
Girls dont really think about these things with logic unless theyre much older

They usually base these kinds of decisions heavily off of emotions

Take it from an anon who knows a thing or two about them

Ashi knowing she might fade away at any moment yet continues to spend time with the man she loves and accepts his proposal is actually pretty realistic
>>
>>92744732
>>92744842
Given Ashi's nature and how she fell in love with Jack it would seem far more realistic to see it as really an unexpected side effect of time travel (which is still bullshit if you ask me)
>>
>>92724087
Maybe she was banking on some time paradox shenanigans to keep her alive. I mean, if Jack kills Aku then she could never be born to help Jack get to the past to kill Aku. It's fucked and stupid but Ashi was hot so at least there's that.
>>
>>92744732
Ultimately I don't think we'll ever know if she knew, or why she didn't tell Jack if she did. But Ashi was human, too, maybe she couldn't bring herself to also cut Jack off in the bargain.

Maybe she just didn't want to go back to being alone.
>>
>>92744842

I wouldn't say this is a trend of women as a whole but would a lot of girls think like this? Sadly enough, probably.

But I think it'd be out of character for Ashi. She's not that shallow or selfish, she has too much awareness of her partner to pull off that sort of thing. It's important to keep in mind that Jack had 50 years to actually settle with someone, so if he's going to go with a girl she's probably going to be well above average in a lot of things and reflective of his own values.
>>
>>92744984
I personally think it would be more in character for her to want to spend as much time with each other as they can and her telling Jack prior to that would just destroy his mood the entire time. Better for him to be able to keep those memories as happy and sweet, even though Genndy didnt bother showing us any
>>
It's also possible she thought she'd be immediately erased, it didn't happen, and she assumed she was safe. Or that she realized it as it was happening in a 'd'oh' moment. I'd guess the first is more likely of the two with the look she gave Jack.

What a raw deal that is.

I don't know why Genndy wrote it out like this. Either she should have faded then and there or not at all. To have a weird fake-out and then just having it happen for real at the worst possible time just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. It's both horrid writing and awful to the character.

It wouldnt be bad writing if it was shown that she had gradually growing weakness from the time they arrived up until the wedding as the time ripples got closer to her

Also if parts of her slowly dissapeared a day or two before wedding and she hides it. Makes the reveal at the wedding more dramatic as her partly invisible hand comes out of her dress and touches Jacks cheek much to his surprise and everyone elses
>>
>>92746352
Not getting to say goodbye either was a real gut kick, too.

Honestly, I'm not sure it wasn't intentional. We've seen Genndy plot out stories before, even tragic ones like X-9, that didn't end so oddly. Maybe he was DELIBERATELY going for the shock-followed-by-grief effect a bunch of people reported.

Jack Vs. The Lava Monster is one of my top 3 episodes.

I actually think hes a Nord, could be a Dane though

Anyway, I wanted to see him lead a small band of Valkryies into battle down from Valhalla in the final episode

Or a scene of Ashi reading his stone monument and brushing her fingers over Jacks' chiseled 'FREE' on it.

We really needed more scenes/episodes for this seasons plot to be fully realized
>>
>>92724087
Probably not because none of it makes any sense. From what I've seen, everything is going to revert back to the way it was because Aku surviving into the future played a direct role in him dying in the past, which makes no fucking sense. If Ashi disappears, it ALL disappears, which is bleak and tragic and not at all bittersweet.

The first three episodes were clearly the strongest ones. Don't get me wrong, the middle of the season wasn't weak by any means, its just that the season peaked right at the beginning. Why would you even want this? It's been established since day 1 that Jack can beat him handily, and he's going back to the past to finish what he started. Your ridiculous desire for "let epic final battle XD" is the reason we have terrible shit like the Gravity Fall's finale.

I don't buy that she and everyone in the Aku future are gone. If that was the case and she never existed, then who sent Jack back to the past? If the Aku future is gone, then where did past Jack end up? A normal future with no time portals? Everything is a paradox.

That's why the multiverse theory is the only one that holds water.

Ashi may have just gotten spat back into her own timeline. Where Aku is alive with no special sword to kill him with. Sad.

Hopefully Jack finds the Guardian's portal as prophesized. But uses it to go to the Aku future instead of the past.

pardon my ranting

There should've been two battles.

One more all out battle with Aku not caring anymore as long as he can kill him.

Then the curbstomp in the past in the episode.
>>
>>92757891
That is not how that works. Ever heard of the Butterfly Effect? Not the shitty movies, mind you.

I'm guessing Genndy wanted to avoid entering into hard Sci-Fi territory with alternate realities. In which case, Ashi could have stayed in the past with Jack as you cannot undo something that has been done.

You can create a splinter in spacetime, and that would prevent the future from rewritten because it is its own timeline now, and exists independent of the new reality created when Jack killed Aku.

Now, the only problem then is that hypothetically, an alternate universe will reject a person from another reality without some kind of anchor. The Anchor prevents the alternate reality from "boomeranging" them back to their own reality/timeline.

Again, all of this is conjecture and hypothesis in current quantum physics.
>>
>>92758327
>Again, all of this is conjecture and hypothesis in current quantum physics

Exactly, which is why it's pointless to try to apply it to a show that doesn't care for it. At the end of the day, it's a work of fiction that was left purposefully open-ended. People can theorize that the future has everyone Jack saved reborn in a better world, and it's just as valid.
>>
>>92724087
She, who? The person in your picture? She never existed. She was never born. Therefore she could not know anything.
>>
>>92731217
Of course she never loved him. People who never existed could never love anyone. Duh.

So since it took what we can assume was at the very least a few days(probably weeks or even months considering how not Aku'd everything is) for her to disappear, how long do you think the future existed for?

>>
>>92765528
I dunno if Samurai Jack needed to be a story with uncertainties and no true ending. Definitely makes me feel sorry for Jack.
>>
>>92764522
My theory is that genndy went in *needing* a bittersweet ending, and thus wrote the first three episodes accordingly. Once he started needing to develop ashi however, I think he got caught up in making episodes that really felt like the old show which had the end result of completely changing the tone/theme of the season.

I think by the time he got to episode 9, he realized what had been done,(and that he was hitting the episode limit) but refused to either change the ending to fit the new time, or change the previous 5 episodes to fit the ending, which led to both of those aspects (bittersweet ending and cheesy cliche season) ruining eachother, when either of them independently could have been done much better.

That fight is impossible, plain and simple. Jack and Aku's confrontations have always been completely one sided; just one of them beating the other without any trouble. If Jack has the sword, Aku won't last 5 minutes. If Jack doesn't have it, he wouldn't have lasted more than 1. Accept that Jack and Aku's enmity comes from the frustration each of them cause the other rather than any kind of fighting rivalry.

From what I can tell:

-Eps 1 through 3 were probably almost completely from the movie.
-Ashi was always going to be the deuteragonist and always romantic.
-E4 was half-movie, half-series.
-Most of the rest of the series used some movie ideas, but spread around.

Ep 1-3 were entirely more developed than the rest of the season so that tells me they had those ideas around for much longer than anything else

THEY WILL BE AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN THE ONES THAT EXISTED BEFORE
>>
>>92779902
Just because something is the premise/prologue does not mean it should be exactly how it ends.

it really would have been nice if they addressed the guardian though

at least do what dbz did and have jack kill aku in both timelines
as it stands, how was jack sent back to his time by someone who never existed

....they did. They showed his area in ruins, his portal destroyed, and his glasses broken on the ground. He's dead aku killed him. It's not rocket surgery.

>as it stands, how was jack sent back to his time by someone who never existed
All that matters to Time itself is that Jack is back where he should be. He didn't age in the future because he existed out of time. He was somewhere he never should have been.

how did they fuck up the art for clean-shaven original-gi jack?
it's like they forgot his skin tone and face shape

and if i'm being picky, it was weird how whenever part of his part of his body crossed in front of the other, they blended together
like they rarely drew lines to show where one started and the other ended
in the original they were kinda obsessed with separating them
>>
>>92774117
What, giving Aku a major powerup out of nowhere? Please, to propose some way you can even out Jack and Auu's conflict without resorting to anything else the previous seasons did while keeping it in a 22 minute time contratint.

Why have a city when you can have the universe?
>>
>>92784958
Back when Jack was first showing Ashi Aku's evil, he brought her to a forest that had been destroyed except for one tree, because Aku wanted to make sure people knew what they had lost and would never see again.

You go from a mist-shrouded forest to a big reveal to show that, for Ashi's and Jack's struggles and sacrifices, real beauty and potential has been restored. Ashi wouldn't have had to imagine how mighty this forest was.

Really, the forest and tree stand in for the entire planet, and are supposed to help narratively convince the viewer that despite the tremendous hurt Jack and Ashi experienced, what they did is ultimately the right thing and will give countless billions a chance at a life in peace.
>>
>>92784326
Maybe the prophecy was true, just not for the future. Now that jack is back in his time, and knows where the guardian is, what's to stop him from visiting in his own time and defeating the guardian then?
Could use it to look at how his friends/ashi would exist in a better future or something, I dunno.
>>
>>92789443
It would be cool to see a mini season based on Jack trying desperately to get over Ashi as he meets a well written new love interest, it would start with him having crazy hallucinations of Ashi talking to him much like Mad Jack and the Guilt Visions of his family

Yeah, I can see Jack gradually growing sympathetic to her as he realizes she's not some sort of morbid tourist or a vapid child wanting to be entertained.
>>
>>92791062
If she was written well and had a good design and VA it could work
>>
>>92792698
Something like that would never get animated outside of fan stuff, it'd probably be a fan-fiction epilogue about Jack coming to terms with his grief and reintegrating in his time (ironically, by helping another person...again).

The writing'd have to be just right, though, yeah.
>>
>>92792958

Jack's quest to recover Ashi, perhaps? A potential plot of managing between one's duties and well-being of the world, as opposed to fighting one's desires and emotions? Jack fought with despair, rage and apathy, but he never fought his own desires and lust - we know he strove to remain stoic, but Ashi stoke up emotions he never experienced, so it would be an interesting angle.

Even though the ending shows him at peace, if he were given a chance to get her, would he?
>>
>>92793068
Sure, and a lot of people are doing that, but I think there's character and narrative juice in developing an ending where Jack has to come to terms with his grief.
>>
>>92793548
>Jack is shown to unwaveringly protect the innocent

They had to have spent time together before the wedding and before everyone arrived (which takes months of traveling) and Jack had to have proposed. And he had to have spent time with his family afterwards

>>
>>92796707
Probably she says "yes, of course," then asks what it is.
>>
>>92796772
Ye that was probably the weakest episode.

>>
>>92796950
I personally loved it and thought it was a strong episode, but I'm more saying that it does not fit with the ending, and in the ultimately ruins it. Just like the ending ruins the previous episodes with a completely light tone.
>>
>>92797054
How does it ruin it for you? If we never cared for them it wouldn't mean anything that she disappears.
I also feel it would be kind of cheating if he got to keep Ashi seeing as how he technically destroyed everyone in Aku's world (including the good guys) in order to build up a new better one. It would take away from the sacrifice that was made.
>>
>>92796970
He technically would be attending with Ashi being there to begin with

>Can see everything through Ashi
>Cant do anything about it
>Cries happily when they Kiss
>>
>>92724087
>Did she know

We all knew. But when she didn't immediately poof following Aku's death, we were all (reasonably) lulled into thinking we were in the clear.
>>
>>92797336
It mostly boils down to how you can afford to have poor pacing and lack of explanation for a happy ending, but if you haphazardly slap a tragedy at the end just to call it bittersweet, then the poor pacing/buildup become harder to accept.
This is compounded by the fact that even by the shows logic, the ending doesn't make sense.

Probably, but It it was decision based on love

Note how even after they fell in love, Jack still expressed regret over his failure in Ep.9 as he painfully accepted that his home will always be just a memory

He is aware of the principle of attraction and male-female relations, he interacts with a couple of them prior to Ashi, but she was the first to stoke up the fire.

I don't see it being exclusively lust-driven if at all, but if there was a shot at getting Ashi back, while risking your home (which albeit safe, you might not be able to get back to), would Jack dare? The dilemma of home vs heart is the one we have not yet seen, where Jack actually deals with a desire of his own that is at odds with his duty (killing Aku and getting back weren't that far separated from his own wish for his home as much as they were his duties)

Just a thought.
