Its failure is that its sales are not as good as the sales for the first Civil War, or Hickman's Secret Wars a year prior, and the fact that this was an obvious cash-in on the Civil War film that didn't attract more sales. Its other failure is that it harmed sales on other series instead of boosting them. Other than that it still sold better than Original Sin, Age of Ultron, AXIS, and Fear Itself.

I don't think any editor considered Bendis end of the X-Men to ruin the franchise. Look at how his ideas are still going on to this day (O5, Cyclops as the bad good guy, Kitty as the new Professor X, the future Brotherhood with Mystique sons). I'm a bit split on this, 1 it sounds like he's getting fired for the X-Men Gold fiasco which is totally wrong, no editor outside of Indonesia would have ever caught that on the other hand he's been working with the X-Men since 2007 so all the editorially mandated garbage that's gone on is his fault and he should have been fired in 2012 when AVX was a complete disaster maybe as early as Curse of the Mutants.
