Explain to me this story that's been told a thousand times.

Because I'm pretty sure as far as movies go there's just Raimi and Webb, which were both very different from each other.

You should've just watched Spider-Man 2, then.

Rami was fine but ultimately suffered from a bad romance plot which was the focus of most of the story and only the second one was good.

Webb was just bad, bad characterization, forced plot, terrible acting, and trying way to hard to make a multi movie franchise.

Bad Design

Literally all of this has been taken away, so it fucking sucks
>>
I thought that was a Tyler Perry cameo.
>>92711767
Because it looks even less polished than the previous 5 films. It doesn't look grand in scope, and the cinematography looks very basic. Everything about the film looks basic, including the fat friend doing the retarded fat friend shit.

>>it's not the same exact story that's been told a thousand times so therefore you can't like it and be a spiderman fan
But...you have heard this story...plenty of times. It's Danny Phantom. It's Static Shock. It's literally every single fucking "Kid in high school with powers" story you've ever seen! Just because it's a different Spider-Man story because it omits characters doesn't mean it's a unique story.
>>
>>92711791
He still has a duel life. Besides the best part of Spider-man has always been fighting bad guys and spitting out quips. That's literally all Spider-man needs.

Half of it is Raimifags, the other half is redditors that desperately want to finally put a loss in the Marvel column.
>>
>>92704330
>Explain to me this story that's been told a thousand times.

Kid gets powers
Kid hides powers to keep everyone safe
Fat kid is a retard
Kid with powers is in love triangle for a girl out of his league
Kid eventually settles for weirder girl
Kid abuses power, faces consequence, has to earn his right back

It's a story you've been sold many times before with a fresh coat of paint. Why do people act like films and series outside the MCU don't exist. You've seen this story many, many times.
>>
>>92711791
>lone hero with a secret identity living a dual life
He still seems to have one

>who used his own ingenuity and smarts
I have yet to see anything to the contrary. Before getting the new suit from Stark, he used his home made costume and web shooters
>>
>>92711791
>Spider-man
>Lone hero
Yeah, the guy that first appeared in a team book, and rivals Wolverine and Deadpool (who he currently has a team up book with) is a real lone wolf.
>>
>>92711475
It's really funny, because I really didn't hate SM3 at all. Sure, it was lackluster, but I don't see why it gets such venomous hate when there are clearly worst films out there.
>>
>>92711767
I dislike the costume. It looks lifeless and it lacks most of the design elements I like of comic Spider-Man (large eye lenses, large chest emblem. I'm a monster who loves 90s comic Spidey).

Holland seems bland. He seems a bit more interesting than Maguire, but I liked Garfield, even if his movies have issues.

I don't want to see Iron Man 4 is the main reason, and this feels more like Iron Man 4 at this point.
>>
>>92711845
>Half of it is Raimifags

None of which have ever actually read a comic book in their lives.
>>
>>92711845
>Raimifags
What makes you think that? If anything in the recent years the anti-Raimi fanbase has only been growing, partially due to the TASM "totes like the comics" checklist convincing them Raimi's movies were never good. Raimi fans are chill
>>
>>92711853

>>92711855
>Before getting the new suit from Stark, he used his home made costume and web shooters
You mean, before he had any screen time? Oh yeah, the new Spider-Man movie is great because he WAS like Spider-Man before he was actually introduced to the MCU!

>>92711859

>>92711886

>>
>>92711829
>Besides the best part of Spider-man has always been fighting bad guys and spitting out quips. That's literally all Spider-man needs.
And I have to stop your dumb ass right there.

This right here is why Spider-Man has sucked for so much of late. "Spider-Man needs to crack jokes" is the shittiest excuse to define a character. Outside the drive to help the small guy, or the constant guilt over Uncle Ben's Death, or his not wanting anyone to die personality traits, people keep focusing on "I saw a couple out of context panels of Spider-Man being funny therefore he must always be funny"

That's just the online looking glass. That's taking a trait you see cause funny pictures are always spread around online and people take a few out of context panels and say "Spider-Man must always be funny". Thing is, a lot of Spider-Man jokes don't work. How many times has he gone "You're crazy cause you're dressed up like a ________" gag? Like, has him calling someone crazy ever landed as a joke? It's like the Deadpool effect, where unfunny jokes seem like they are funnier because they are coming from Spider-Man.

This whole "Spider-Man only needs to be funny" shit needs to stop because it's a shitty excuse for bad writing. I remember a convention where the panelist praised Dan Slott's writing because "He's the only writer that remembers Spider-Man needs to be funny". This is why we got the Family Guy Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. This is why we have a fandom that defines Spider-Man as an Avengers suck up.

This dismissal of all things Spider-Man for him to say something like "The Vulture? You better not poop on me!" is why we keep getting a more Flanderized Spider-Man.

>>
>>92711943
This, holy shit
"Fans" go up and down swearing the TASM movies are the most accurate movies ever because "at least Spiderman makes jokes", then you look at the movies and what happens? Peter sits on his ass for an hour just trying to crack jokes no matter the context

>I'm hunting down my uncle's killer, he's gonna pay for what he did...
>But for now let me waste 15 minutes on this random car thief. I bet he's gonna be so mad he got ownd, loool XD

>This crazy russian guy is driving a speeding truck through the city and doesn't care if he kills in the process!
>Better sit on his vehicle and try mock his life choices... oops, there goes a car and it's passengers. And another. And another...

I don't understand how people could have such a superficial view of the character. I mean, i understand, but I'd expect the board dedicated to fucking comics to be less casual than this
>>
>>92703727
How much did Pascal pay you to write that?
>>
>>92712011
>team up

You're still wrong. If you'd actually read the book, the entire issue is about how Spider-Man does NOT work in a team, you fucking mongoloid.

He goes to the Fantastic Four, demanding they accept him in their ranks and pay him. When they don't want to, he throws a fit and GTFOs out of the Baxter Building. The rest of the issue is spent having Peter bitch about how he doesn't need anyone else and just needs to take care of himself.
>>
>>92712038

If we're making shit up I also hate the fact that he makes out with Harry for 20 minutes.

I like how this is basically going to be the plot of Homecoming but now it's unacceptable.
>>
>>92711955
Even so, if Iron Man wasn't in this film, none of this film would even happen. Vulture exists to attack Peter, Peter wants to be on the Avengers, Tony takes away the suit for motivation, the film can't exist without the MCU's bubble.

And that's what makes this film feel tainted. It's saying "You can't watch this film on its own merits, you have to have watched Civil War and the Avengers first to understand everything going on" For the start of a new franchise, that's a really shitty way to present your first film.

Yeah, no.

I don't think you know what the word "anthology" means.

Amazing Fantasy was a book where each issue had multiple stories. All set in the same universe, but otherwise self-contained.

This includes Spider-Man. At no point his introduction does he ever "team up" with anyone.

>>
>>92712068
>I like how this is basically going to be the plot of Homecoming but now it's unacceptable.
The Fantastic Four didn't create Peter's Suit, and Peter isn't fighting a FF Villain. And the major difference here is we know Spider-Man will be in the Avengers next year.

The Vulture is a Spider-man villain.

Yes because Spider-man NEVER teams up with anybody. He's completely isolated in his corner of the universe.

Yeah! This film is gonna prove that Spider-Man is too good for the Avengers! After this film that is Spider-Man relying entirely on the MCU, he's going to break free and become his own character! He's most certainly going to be too good for the Avengers.

A) You mean that shitty hoodie outfit that was replaced by Spider-Man's ICONIC look? You can try to distance it, but Tony Stark made THE Spider-Man look in the MCU. You know, the look that makes Spider-Man popular.
B) Vulture is going after Stark and Pete is just a distraction.
C) A franchise that relies entirely on the existence of another franchise is not a good premise for a franchise. Say what you will about the other MCU films, but at least they establish their heroes on their own first. Spider-Man's entire purpose in this film relies solely on Tony and the Avengers. You ever played that LOTR game where you're the group following the Fellowship of the Ring? Why should I be interested in a film where the hero is bottom bitch to other heroes.
>>But he'll break away
Infinity Wars clearly proves you're wrong.
>>
>>92712259
The fact that so many people are in denial that this film will be as straightforward as it presents itself. Like, this is a kid showing his parents a cartoon and trying to explain to them it's deeper than they think when it plays up the same troupes.

People on here are denying that Zendaya's character won't be Peter's love interest, when it's the most blatant choice. A film where Peter is in a love triangle for a girl out of his league and he doesn't win her heart and then finds out the quirky girl he's been ignoring has been right for him? In a High School setting?

You all are acting like this film is going to blow minds if Zendaya isn't Peter's girlfriend, when it's the most obvious plot in this film, and if not in this film, the next film.
>>
Is this the movie that will finally destroy /co/ if it turns out to be good?
>>
>>92712332
You say that as if the comics never offered an alternative ebooks explanation as to why a teenager managed to put together such an elaborate suit

And about the franchise part, it's not about Spiderman HAVING to rely on the MCU, they're just trying to offer something different after 3 great solo movies and 2 mediocre to bad ones. What, you think when people said "we want Spisey to be part of the MCU!" they meant they wanted him to brood about how alone he is but this time with the Avengers tower in the background just to acknowledge it's the MCU? Plus it drives home the point this isn't Sonyverse
>>
>>92712382
yes how ever will /co/ be able to handle an MCU movie being good

If JL turned out to be good THAT would destroy /co/ but that's impossible
>>
>>92712382
It doesn't matter if it's good or not, the normies who have migrated here spam the shit out of the board calling every MCU movie "good"

Just because newfags on /co/ say something is good doesn't mean it's good
>>
>>92712412
>calling every MCU movie "good"
because every MCU movie IS good
>>
>>92712392
But that's the thing. The MCU already relies on Tony Stark too much to drive everything, and this film is an over reliance on Tony. Let's say this is a Black Panther film that has at the most pivotal moment, Captain America and Bucky Barnes saving T'Challa's skin. Wouldn't that be insanely disappointing for BP to become Cap's bitch? And that's what Spider-man is in this film, Tony and the Avengers' bitch.

No matter how hard you claim it's going to be Spider-Man's breakaway to be his own man, he's still going to be in the Avengers after this, being the dumbass "Woah, this is all so cool Mr. Stark".

In other words, people didn't want Spider-Man in the MCU, they wanted a little suckup telling you how great the MCU is.
>>
>>92712191
>What is her role going to be if not the eventual love interest?!

Just another kid in the school, to, you know, make it actually feel like a school. I know, what a shocking concept. Have actual named characters in your cast, instead of a bunch of random faces.

Please tell me you're joking.

And the thing is, that would be fine, BUT it's already putting Tony and the Avengers on a hierarchy. This film is basically a giant blinking advertisement for the Avengers.
>>
>>92712365
>People on here are denying that Zendaya's character won't be Peter's love interest

Literally nothing that has been presented to us thus far even suggests it.

The -only- reason anyone thinks that is because of a rumor started by a known liar (Umberto Gonzalez from the website Heroic Hollywood) started a rumor that she is MJ, purely to generate clicks for the site he works for.

Nothing else even hints at that. In fact, there is more info supporting the fact that she -isn't- going to be a love interest. People keep claiming that Homecoming is going to pull a She's All That and have the freak girl suddenly become gorgeous at the dance. But that has already been disproven, as we've seen what Zendaya's character looks like during the dance.

So go ahead, keep whining about things that anyone with half a brain has already seen is false. You'll feel pretty fucking stupid when the movie finally comes out and Zendaya isn't a love interest.

We are talking about Sony here.
>>92712652
No, I'm arguing to the people who are in denial that Zendaya's character is the love interest of the film. Why would they heavily market Zendaya in this film so much if she's just a random school kid? She's on the poster, she's been in interviews with Holland, she's practically billed more so than Aunt May in this film. Saying she won't be Peter's eventual love interest puts too much faith in this industry.
>>

The creative process is as far as we know all Disney

Not that it matters anyway, both Sony's versions tried to add multiple girls, just did it awkwardly

No one in this thread has claimed its going to be a masterpiece.

Personally, I'm just drawing issue with your prolonging the meme that Zendaya is a love interest.

Jon Watts has made a big point to talk about how he wanted the school elements to feel real and believable and he specifically hired kid actors who he thought did good jobs during the casting call, even inventing new roles for them, just to help flesh out the school setting. He doesn't want a bunch of random nameless faces. He wants a school with identifiable characters that Peter interacts with. Thus, Michelle.

Spider-Man, at his core, is about a character who is trying to atone for his sins. By refusing to mention Uncle Ben's death, that's gone.

Also, teenage Peter was defined by his struggle to make sense of what exactly responsibility was, and struggling with the wrong options clouding his mind. This version of Spider-Man doesn't seem to have that going for him.

The concept of Spider-Man is a character who grows and deals with real shit. Knowing Marvel, they'll try to keep him in high school as long as possible.

The best Spider-Man stories are defined by dark shit that happens in an atmosphere that it really shouldn't, with Spider-Man refusing to give up on his morals. By being hesitant toward dark tones, this movie doesn't have that.

Spider-Man, as a character, is a loner. He's the Superman of street level crime. He can't be hanging around with the Avengers because he's a local character, who's not above helping anyone, no matter how trivial their problems are.

Say what you want about how this movie wants to "differentiate itself", but the fact of the matter is that this movie isn't about Spider-Man. It's about MCU-Man

They've already mentioned it. Its already been confirmed to be a theme throughout the movie.

Just because they aren't actively showing it, doesn't mean it isn't a thing.

Did you just completely miss Peter's monologue during Civil War?
>>
>>92713249
>>92713252
You don't joke around with a guy in a film unless you want in his pants.
>>
>>92713391
Nope. Sony said they wouldn't mention it because it clashes with the tone they're going for.

>Did you just completely miss Peter's monologue during Civil War?

"When you don't act, bad things happen."

That's super vague and could mean anything.
>>
>>92713431
>That's super vague and could mean anything.

You know goddamn well what it means. And the writers know you know what it means. Stop pretending to be an idiot.

As for Uncle Ben in Homecoming:

>“They talk about that, absolutely. It’s not… it’s not a huge thing that I want to go into too much, but there is an acknowledgment that there was a Ben.”

>“I mean, we’re implying he’s dead. We have not at all, again, gone into trying to change his origin story as far as I have been envisioning it. But we, just again, we thought that to keep this fun, light tone, as soon as they have to have their, like, ‘Let’s remember our dearly departed father figure’ – it derails that a little. And again, what we’re trying to tell is this sort of fun story of the kid who is doing all the wrong things for the right reasons. And once you do that, it stops becoming a sort of sun movie about a kid trying to be a kid. He’s mourning the loss of a parent.”

http://screenrant.com/spider-man-homecoming-uncle-ben-peter-parker/

So yeah, its talked about in the movie, just not shown. Its just not a huge focus, though, because we've already seen that story play out. Twice. And everyone knows you already know the story of Uncle Ben's death.
>>
>>92713346
>What are you hiding in your pants, Peter? Hmmmmm?
>>
>>92713488
I know it was meant to be Uncle Ben retard, but they kept it vague for a reason. Because they want to seperate themselves from it as much as possible. Like they said, they think it'll distract.

They're not saying he's dead, they're implying. Best we'll get is Aunt May saying some shit like "When your Uncle left us." And never bring it up again. Which is bad, considering that's his whole motive.
>>
>>92713548
>I know it was meant to be Uncle Ben

And that's all that is needed. You knew -exactly- which lines I was referring to when I brought up the monologue. And the writers knew you would.

Are you honestly telling me you want to see a third movie focusing on Ben's death? Why?

Everyone already knows Peter's origin story. Lets move on and see something new. That's what this movie is doing. Its referencing things people already know about and saying, "Yeah, that happened." and then moving on and exploring new territory.

I don't know about you, but I do not want -another- Spider-Man origin story in a movie.
>>
>>92713601
>Are you honestly telling me you want to see a third movie focusing on Ben's death? Why?

No, but outright trying to ignore it as much as possible because it's "too dark" is a bad sign. It's his motive, you don't have to have the movie be about it in order to have it be an aspect. Not every Batman movie is about his dead parents, but in every movie it's known he's doing what he's doing because of them.

Regardless, the other shit I said is still valid.
>>
>>92713663
>No, but outright trying to ignore it as much as possible because it's "too dark" is a bad sign.

Its not. The movie is actively acknowledging it and moving on. There is a difference.

>Regardless, the other shit I said is still valid.
Such as? Shall I pull your other points apart, too?
>>
>>92713663
>Not every Batman movie is about his dead parents

Aren't they, though? That's Bruce's defining characteristic. The fact that he cannot get over his parent's death.
>>
>>92713663
Saying it doesn't fit the tone or general theme doesn't mean they're ignoring it because it's too dark. Like, think of TASM2 and how ultimately meaningless Gwen's death was, they brushed off the whole grief with a single montage. This movie is basically avoiding that

>Aunt May, I'm so angry and sad uncle Ben is gone... anyway, back to the homecoming dance party!

Not saying a better writer/director wouldn't have been able to balance things out. Raimi did. But you're twisting this all for the sake of your shitposting
>>
>>92713681
>Its not. The movie is actively acknowledging it and moving on. There is a difference.

No, they're not actively acknowledging it. They're going to give it a backhand reference and move on. Did you even read the article you posted?

>Such as? Shall I pull your other points apart, too?

That would imply you pulled apart this one. Which you didn't.
>>92713720

> That's Bruce's defining characteristic. The fact that he cannot get over his parent's death.

Much like how Peter can't get over the fact that he caused the death of his Uncle.
>>
>>92713756
>Much like how Peter can't get over the fact that he caused the death of his Uncle.

Right, because he never ever develops as a character in the entirety of the nearly 800 issues of ASM (and countless ancillary books), right?
>>
>>92713741
But this is exactly my point though. They're trying to avoid the fact that a character died as much as possible because it doesn't fit the tone of the movie. So you lose the aspect of Peter's motives.

>Not saying a better writer/director wouldn't have been able to balance things out. Raimi did. But you're twisting this all for the sake of your shitposting

Raimi didn't do that though. Hell, he spent an entire movie dedicated to Ben's death.
>>
>>92713780
>Right, because he never ever develops as a character in the entirety of the nearly 800 issues of ASM (and countless ancillary books), right?

Only when he became an adult and gained new things to fight for. Things you can't have him fight for as a teenager because it wouldn't make sense. Like his wife, and that kid dying in the hospital.
>>
>>92713663
Nah let's go full Martha with it. Have him get shot in slow motion and then flash back to it again in the finale. That's the only way we'll get Spider-kino.
>>
>>92713783
>So you lose the aspect of Peter's motives.

Wrong. They've already established in Civil War that the entire reason he took up the Spider-Man mantle (and continues to do so) is because of Ben's death. Its an overarching theme. Regardless of if they put a huge emphasis on it or not.

>>92713861

Or were you too autistic to pick up the focus on how everyone was talking about fatherhood throughout the film. /Especially/ the shit with Osborn.
>>
>>92713880
Did you even watch the Raimi films? They spent an entire movie dedicated to it. By the time the second movie came around they had Parker looking for other motives (love life), which you can only really have with a more adult Peter, which is why having high school Parker is fucking stupid.
>>
>>92713892
>The first one retard.

That's wrong, though. A portion of the movie was about Ben's death, absolutely. But the entire movie was not dedicated to it.

The movie was about Peter discovering what it means to be a hero. The majority of the movie was post-Ben's death and was more about his conflict with Green Goblin, both physically and morally.

But please, keep living in your alternate reality.
>>
>>92713921

They're very poor adaptations of the source material and completely miss the entirety of Peter's characterization. The character Maguire plays is so dissimilar to the source material, that it might as well be an entirely different character.

Holland's interpretation is much, much closer to what was in the source material (leaning a bit closer to the Earth-1610 Peter than 616, but with aspects of both. Which is true for a large portion of the MCU).
