Why did people like this show?
>>
I always found it kind of bland too
>>
Not sure but my friend's one ex-girlfriend like to make poorly-drawn porn of the characters and self insert as Isabella. I wish I could show you, but she wiped it all from her DA and is now a furry instead.
>>
>>92685481
I guess it's because it was something other than a yet another bland sitcom, it was also very creative with its humor for its first couple of seasons but became a chore afterwards.
>>
>>92685481
It was different to start with. Then, when people started losing interest, they decided to start poking fun at the shows flaws, instead of trying to fix them...
>>
Couldn't make it past the first season, got bored of it pretty quick.
>>
>>92685481

No idea. I don't like it one bit.
>>
The Tri-Stone Area episode is where i lost all interest in it. I was expecting a Flintstones parody, which would have been fine and harmless. Instead, they went full-caveman and made the single lazily written cartoon ever created. Seriously, it was as though they couldn't be bothered to write a script.

I think it's mostly the obsession with Phineas and Ferb shipping. Plus, it's clear that this chick's a psycho attention whore with suicidal tendencies, and knowing that is pretty off-putting when looking at the lighter art.

>>
>>92686132
Because the show is Johnny Test-tier and shipping characters with quite literally zero development feels stupid. It's like shipping a bar of soap and a spatula, because that's as much development these characters can get in such an episodic show.

I never did weaponize the autism I had about this show to talk about why I hated it so much.

But I hated it because of the flat characterization, the adherence to the status quo, the by-the-numbers formula of every episode's plot, the forced musical numbers, and the overall lack of variety in the way that the characters and plot are combined. When you've seen one to three episodes of P&F, you've pretty much seen them all.

Jokes about philosophers and time-travel paradoxes can only get you so far, and acknowledging your strict adherence to a formula doesn't help when you keep with it and never actually change.

SpongeBob
Samurai Jack
Courage The Cowardly Dog
Beavis and Butthead
Ren and Stimpy
Are you really suggesting that each of these cult classics is the same shit as Johnny Test merely because characters don't get developed?
>>
>>92686132
Because shipping is more or less associated with fan ships, not canon ones. And even if you do make content about a canon ship, in this particular taste, it's hard to do much without pulling stuff out of your ass.
>>
>>92687036
I dunno, do you ship Courage the Cowardly dog? Because that's what he was saying.
>>
>>92687101
>>
>>92687036
No, I'm suggesting that shipping characters from episodic shows is stupid and that Phineas and Ferb is a Johnny Test-tier show. The two concepts there are entirely separate.

>>
>>92685481
because its good

it was basically stuck in a weird place as one of the few good cartoons to exist in the dark age in the late 2000s, it had to tow a line of being episodic while not literally ignoring concepts like continuity between episodes

it was formulaic, overly self referential and down right strange sometimes

but few family comedies manage to be as fun, as funny or as endearing as Phineas and Ferb.

barring cory in the house for giving us so much greatness, P and F was the harbinger of death for toon disneys good programming as the focus shifted to more insipid dan schnider inspired sitcoms, which already had their blocks on the regular disney channel, compare P and F to something like gargoyles and you'll see that the show is just processed blandness that they took the crust off

It aired at more or less the right time to be a slightly above average show. CN was complete shit, Nick was still soul searching after Avatar ended and Spongebob/FOP took their nosedives, and Gravity Falls hadn't yet stolen the channel from them. Plus some of the songs were pretty good.

I was in middle school when this first aired and even then I knew this show was way to safe to be interesting. I went to my English to get an opinion worth a damn and she liked it, looking back it was my fault for expecting anything from a mid 20's vegan English teacher.

I remember disliking the first episodes for being formulaic, then I started liking the show, then I started disliking it again. At first it worked when they started slightly tweaking the formula, but eventually being self referential was the only thing the show had to offer, and that became as tiresome as the formulaic first episodes. It's like they weren't self aware enough to realize that their self awareness was becoming annoying. It's been years since I watched it but I'm pretty certain that there's more than one episode with Doofenshmirtz trying to change the way his encounters with Perry usually turn out while pointing out how formulaic it is. That gets old.

>Jokes about philosophers and time-travel paradoxes can only get you so far, and acknowledging your strict adherence to a formula doesn't help when you keep with it and never actually change.

Also this, to a extent. It gave me too much of a "tfw to smart" vibe, even when I was a kid.

Honestly, I kinda didn't care for this series at first because it all seemed like formulaic garbage. But just as it starts getting old, they find creative and fun ways to undermine the formula. It really is a series made for people who like the series.

It's the closest thing there's been to classic Looney Tunes or the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show in decades; it has slapstick and bright colors that appeal to the youngest children, puns for older kids, and satiric references for adults (which are handled absurdly enough that they're still funny even if you don't know the reference in question) along with songs that can appeal to any age group.

It doesn't dumb things down just because the main audience is children, it had a lot of self-referential humor, and does actually have some pretty strong character development as well.

Like Tom and Jerry cartoons, even if some aspects are dated, people are going to be able to sit down and watch these cartoons decades from now and still get something out of them. A lot of shows that are popular right now won't age nearly as well as Phineas and Ferb will.
