Originally Barbara Gordon was a 25 years old librarian/congresswoman engaged to another character while Dick Grayson was still a teenager with a silly crush on a older woman. Things were like that up until the late 90's. Starfire was the gal that was introduced organically in his life and helped him grow as a character.

Then the cartoons happened where Dick and Babs were both college age sweet-hearts, because Timm was setting things up for later to have Dick getting cucked, and because of SYNERGY comic writers started to hint that Dick and Babs were into one another and were in fact star-crossed lovers that for some stupid reason never were able to get together because stupid bitches were always getting in the way.

Then because the age gap between them was creepy as fuck Barbara started to have her age and entire history retconned left and right so she could be reduced to be Dick's eternal love interest.

FUCK DICKxBABS, the most forced, soulless, obnoxious and damaging pairing the Bat-Family has. It has never done anything good for the characters. All it does is hold both Dick and Babs back. Dick stopped evolving because of it running completely his growth from the New Teen Titans days and Babs got more and more turned into a womanchild.

It was how Lobdell wanted to approach it. He wanted to have Jason and Roy basically using Starfire as a weapon and sex-toy. The problem with comics versus other forms of media is that the turnover rate for projects is much higher than with a cartoon, tv show, etc. Every time a writer or editor changes, the characters change and often become something completely different.

It's kind of like putting on a different shirt everyday. Right now DC seems to not want anything to do with writing about Dick with Kory OR Batgirl but that could change just as easily as someone puts on a shirt in the morning.

Basically what I'm saying is if you don't like the direction characters are taking (or what relationships they pursue) just wait a couple years because I guarantee it will look COMPLETELY different than it does now.

During 52, as it was later retconned that Harvey Dent in fact wasn't alone in saving Gotham, but Cassandra/Alfred were there doing the real grunt work.

Near the end of 52, Slade showed up and tried to put a wedge between her and Bruce. It didn't work. So he did the next best thing. When out vigilanting he sniped her then pumped her full of that wacky juice that made Rose carve out her eye.

Cassandra joined the League of Assassins, went on a killing rampage, and Bruce just let her do this thinking it was some sort of teenage phase she was going through.
