Why are Silver Age comics so good?
>>92647388
they're fucking crazy schlock and aren't trying to impress anybody but their audience. no pretensions just imagination.
>>92647388
It was a simpler time. A time when knocking a woman unconscious so you wouldn't have to listen to her was generally accepted as being a good thing. Truly it was a golden age.
i wanna read the blonde phanthom but idk where to find her

He's actually knocking her unconscious so she doesn't charge into Clark Kent's rampaging death machine because of influence from psychic brainwaves.

The sad thing is most people can't see the sheer craziness in Silver Age books and just think they're lame.
Separate question, do you think the Silver Age was the best time for Marvel and DC, collectively? DC had their batshit crazy books while Marvel was redefining superhero comics for the future. Both of them were really killing it. I know it would never sell but I sometimes wish DC would go back to the insanity.
>>92654801
Being able to look at them and have a chuckle at how stupid they were doesn't make them any better.
Comics were garbage from their very inception, that's why people opposed comic books so much. Only later they started discovering the medium but even today it's 90% schlock.

I'd dig a book as crazy as the silver age was. I'd even take a Silver Age variant line

>>92668813
In a weird way it is.
>>92668813
>>92668840
It is clever.
Silver Age comics are modern day mythology. Like mythology they're crazy and follow storybook logic. But storybook logic is still logic and seeing that logic play out can bring a smile to your face.
>>92668813
>Shoots Flash into space in the shape of a boomerang
>Flash boomerangs back to him
Clever isn't the word I'd use desu
>>92668954
In the sense of archetype play it is. Barry is cast into the underworld like the Mayan hero twins and is tested to lose courage, to move, to act instead of think, but he keeps his courage and thinks his way out of the trap using what he learned from his last encounter with Captain Boomerang. And Captain Boomerang is undone by his own power in a classic defeat.
It's clever in the same way Hermes tricking Apollo was clever, or how Medea tricking Jason was clever. It's trickster folklore clever.

>Injustice
There needs be a DC fighting game that embraces its wackiness like Marvel vs Capcom. Jimmy Olsen is a character who has random things happen to him during the fight that turn him into Elastic Lad or Turtleboy or cause the Hairys bike gang to crash into the opponent. His ultimate is him using his Superman signal watch but if malfunctions and causes an army of Supermen from across the multiverse to beat up the enemy.
The Metal Men are one character whose costumes are each other. They use each other as strikers during the fight. Like if you play as Platinum you could have Iron drop himself as a weight on the enemy or Gold turn himself into a sword you can use. The ultimate is them forming into Alloy.
You have a Superman character and a separate Clark Kent character with different attacks trying his hardest not to stand out as Superman. His ultimate is "Look over there!" as he changes into Superman at Superspeed.

the only minor problem i have with it is that Lex doesn't kill all the Metropolis Crime Bosses (who had previous try to murder him when they thought he turned good)
The only problem i really had with Silver Age Superman comics is that a lot of seemed really inconsequential.
